While the fastball is the most common pitch in baseball, learning how to throw an effective curveball, also known as a " deuce" , keeps the batters you face off-guard and guessing. The curveball is a breaking pitch that is usually thrown 10-15 mph slower than the fastball and breaks across the plate. Some curveballs break in a 12-to-6 motion (vertical drop) while others tend to cut more across the plate. You can usually expect to get 7-12 inches of break out of your curveball
