FOX & Friends' Republican bias trifecta; Co-host Kilmeade said of some RNC convention protestors: "When is it OK to whack them around?"
Reply
July 14, 2004
On July 13, the day after FOX News Channel anchor Jane Skinner, filling in as host of FOX Report with Shepard Smith, reported that FOX News Channel "denies the claim" made in producer/director Robert Greenwald's documentary film Outfoxed: Rupert Murdoch's War on Journalism that the network has a "bias toward Republicans," the co-hosts of FOX News Channel's morning show FOX & Friends -- E.D. Hill, Steve Doocy, and Brian Kilmeade -- provided evidence to the contrary.
http://mediamatters.org/research/200407140004
Beginning with analysis of the presidential race, co-host Hill noted that "Kerry and groups allied to the Democratic cause have spent nearly 25 million dollars on TV ads in the last thirty days ... 60 percent more than Bush." This is a false comparison. In the Kerry tabulation, Hill included expenditures by groups unaffiliated with the campaign, while in the Bush tabulation she included only Bush-Cheney '04 campaign expenditures. In fact, a comparison of money spent by each campaign shows that the Bush-Cheney '04 campaign has spent $3.6 million more than the Kerry campaign on advertising. While USA Today's Mark Memmott also combined Kerry's and unaffiliated groups' ad expenditures in comparing them to the Bush-Cheney '04 campaign's, the article also reported the Kerry campaign's expenditures alone. According to the July 11 USA Today article, the Bush-Cheney '04 campaign has spent $59.6 million on ads in 17 closely contested states from March 3 through June 26, while the Kerry campaign has spent $56 million in the same states during the same period. -

No room for progressives on cable news inauguration coverage
Reply
January 20, 2005
Media Matters for America inventoried all guests who appeared on FOX News, CNN, and MSNBC during the channels' January 20 inauguration coverage. Between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. ET, Republican and conservative guests and commentators outnumbered Democrats and progressives 19 to 7 on FOX*, 10 to 1 on CNN (not including a Republican-skewed panel featuring Ohio voters), and 13 to 2 on MSNBC. Moreover, the rare Democrat or progressive guest usually appeared opposite conservatives, whereas most Republican and conservative guests and commentators appeared solo or alongside fellow conservatives.

Why blame the media?? Obama has nominated Sotomayor to the Supreme Court. She is likely to over turn Roe vs Wade, where are the voters and women questioning his choice??
Reply
President Obama is on record opposing gay marriage... what is his stand on abortions?? "It's a legal matter"??
Sotomayor does have a judicial record dealing with abortion...
One has to assume Obama wouldn’t have appointed Sonia Sotomayor without some indication that she’s pro-choice but based on very, very little information I wonder if she might not end up being an abortion centrist.
First, in Center for Reproductive Law and Policy v. Bush, she actually ruled against the pro-choice group on Constitutional grounds.
Second, in Amnesty America v. Town of West Hartford, she ruled in favor of the rights of anti-abortion protestors.
Neither of these cases dealt with the merits of abortion. Nonetheless, it’s interesting that in the two cases we know of that related partly to abortion, she took the position that pro-life groups would have wanted (albeit for reasons unrelated to Roe v. Wade). At a minimum, these cases would seem to indicate that, if she is pro-choice, she didn’t let those views affect her view of the relevant law.

More bowing from the media
Shorter Thomas: He’s kinda like God, only cuter! OMG!!
I’d echo John Hinderaker’s “Good Lord,” but Evan Thomas might think I’m talking about Obama. We laughed when Brian Williams bowed to Obama to wish him good night, although thankfully Williams didn’t offer to tuck him into bed, but this goes beyond a bow. Thomas is almost literally worshiping at Obama’s image in this clip. And Newsweek doesn’t just employ Thomas as a reporter; he’s one of their editors.
Maybe Newsweek should just get a room at the White House and cycle its staff through it in order to allow for non-stop fawning. When will they announce that they’re changing their name to The Gospel Of Barack? I’d guess … 2012.
Sounds like Evan Thomas could use some intervention right about now. We are going to have to start an Obama Anonymous association in this country soon.
"Hello, my name is Bill and I have an uncontrollable desire to knell down before Obama and pray to him....."
"Hello Bill........."-

Media Matters Exposes Fox News Right Wing Bias In Protest Coverage
Fox News went nuts covering the tea parties and that was primarily due to the fact that the events were hate fests targeting our president and commander in chief, Barack Obama. But, as I have stated on this blog before, where has Fox News been in previous protests (such as anti-war protests)? Fox News has been inconsistent in its coverage and that was clearly evident as it went overboard and sent nearly all of its on-air “talent” to cover the tea parties live.
From Media Matters:
A Media Matters review of Fox News’ coverage of demonstrations prior to the April 15 tea parties found that the network did not offer similarly promotional coverage of anti-war protests or other demonstrations in support of progressive positions. Instead, the network’s hosts, contributors, and guests often attacked participants in those protests.
As Media Matters points out, not only has Fox News not covered protest events conducted by liberals, it actually has oftentimes attacked such events.

Rep. Lamar Smith: ‘The greatest threat to America is a liberal media bias.’
Reply
Yesterday, Rep. Lamar Smith (R-TX) launched the Media Fairness Caucus, made up of about a dozen House Republicans, aiming “to fight liberal media bias.” The group will “point out unfair stories, meet with members of the media, and write op-eds and letters to the editor to highlight media bias,” Newsmax reported. Appearing on Fox News today, Smith declared that “liberal media bias” is a bigger threat to the United States than the recession or terrorism — and Fox’s Bill Hemmer seemed to agree:
SMITH: Let me just say — this is going to sound radical, I don’t mean for it to be radical — but to me, the greatest threat to America is not necessarily a recession or even another terrorist attack. The greatest threat to America is a liberal media bias. …
HEMMER: I would not necessarily call that radical.
Smith must be concerned about a media system that hosts Liz Cheney a dozen times in ten days, or invites twice as many Republicans on as Democrats to discuss the stimulus package, or consistently favors conservative commentators and politicians on the Sunday political talk shows. Not to mention an entire cable network that blatantly cheer-leads for the far right.

5:15PM SEGMENT:
CHRIS MATTHEWS: Tomorrow on the 65th anniversary of D-day, President Obama has a tough pair of acts to follow. His own speech yesterday and one given a quarter century ago.
I remember getting up that morning in 1984 to catch President Reagan at Normandy. It was a real ‘Morning in America' speech. I believe that Reagan's ability to connect to World War II was a reason for his enormous popularity in this country. Here he was on the bluffs of France saying something very good about America, how we liberated Europe. That's the heart of it, really.
The reason Reagan was popular, Roosevelt was popular, Jack Kennedy was popular, and Barack Obama is popular.
Don't tear us down. Don't make us feel like victims or the angry guys or the worried guys. Make us feel American. I think the President's speech yesterday was the reason we Americans elected him. It was grand. It was positive. Hopeful.
It said to the world, if you're a good guy, you've got nothing to fear from us. If you've got national aspirations, if you want to be respected as a people, if you want to be treated as an equal people in the world, we're on your side.
If you're an aggressor, if you want to hold down other people, if you're driven by a predatory ideology, if you're out to hurt this country, look out. We Americans are that rattlesnake on that first flag, ‘Don't tread on me.' But what I liked about the President's speech in Cairo was that it showed a complete humility. What he did was rob from the enemy, those who want to destroy us, their main case, the belief that only by extremism can the East reach equality of dignity with the West.
The question now is whether the President we elected and spoke for us so grandly yesterday can carry out the great vision he gave us and to the world. If he can, he'll be honoring what happened on D-day 65 years ago tomorrow. He will be delivering the world once again from evil. Evan Thomas is editor at large for Newsweek magazine. Evan, you remember '84. It wasn't 100 years ago. Reagan and World War II and the sense of us as the good guys in the world, how are we doing?
EVAN THOMAS: Well, we were the good guys in 1984, it felt that way. It hasn't felt that way in recent years. So Obama's had, really, a different task We're seen too often as the bad guys.
And he - he has a very different job from - Reagan was all about America, and you talked about it.
Obama is ‘we are above that now.' We're not just parochial, we're not just chauvinistic, we're not just provincial. We stand for something - I mean in a way Obama's standing above the country, above - above the world, he's sort of God. He's-
MATTHEWS: Yeah.
THOMAS: He's going to bring all different sides together. It's a very different--

Earlier, I liveblogged this nugget from Liz "I Wanna Be Just Like Daddy Dearest" Cheney. Above is the video of the statements I grabbed.
Seems we're all getting nauseous from the dizzying number of Tee Vee Machine appearances she's made lately:
IS SHE A PROFESSIONAL PUNDIT NOW?.... [...] Apparently concerned that Liz Cheney hasn't been on the cable networks nearly enough lately, "Morning Joe" invited the former Bush administration official to offer more obligatory criticism of the president.
Former VP's daughter tells MSNBC she "was troubled by the extent to which I heard moral relativism."
[...] Concerns about "moral relativism," coming from a Bush administration official, are a little too ironic, anyway.
And therein lies the point: why is Liz Cheney on television every day? Are we approaching the point at which every important presidential speech requires a Cheney response?
We've all been asking that question here at TPC, now haven't we? The question is, why hasn't the corporate media? Oo! Oo! I know! Pick me!

MATTHEWS: Can he - well, here's Ronald Reagan. Let's take a look, a little Friday night nostalgia. Here he is speaking about peace and reconciliation at Normandy back 25 years ago. Let's listen.
RONALD REAGAN: But we try always to be prepared for peace, prepared to deter aggression, prepared to negotiate the reduction of arms, and, yes, prepared to reach out again in the spirit of reconciliation. In truth, there is no reconciliation we would welcome more than a reconciliation with the Soviet Union so together we can lessen the risks of war now and forever.
MATTHEWS: Let's talk about the difference. He was talking about the evil empire, trying to reconcile with the people of Russia and the Soviet Union, but not the country.
Barack Obama the other day was saying, yesterday, that we don't have an enemy out there per se. We have people who choose extremism, but Islam's not our enemy. That's not the evil empire.
THOMAS: But Reagan did it with a very - for the first term it was a clenched fist. I mean, we ramped up the cold war before we ramped it down. We built up our military. We - all of this D-day stuff was about war. That was about fighting.
MATTHEWS: Right.
THOMAS: Reconciliation only after the fighting.
That's not - Obama's not doing that. Obama - we've had our fighting. Obama is trying to sort of tamper everything down. He doesn't even use the word terror. He uses extremism. He's all about let us reason together. I think he has a much tougher job, frankly, because-
MATTHEWS: What's his shtick?
Reagan had the United States arms race, winning the arms race. And we had the threat of high frontier, we were going to beat the Soviets at technology.
THOMAS: I don't think he has - his shtick is he's the teacher.
He's the teacher. He is going to say, ‘now, children, stop fighting and quarreling with each other.' And he has a kind of a moral authority that he - he can - he can do that-
MATTHEWS: If there's a world election between him and Osama Bin Laden, he's running a good campaign.
THOMAS: Yes, he is.-

Why is Cable TV airing Cheney's speech opposite of President Obama's?
Reply
Well, folks, they've done it again. Cable news has now elevated Dick Cheney to a place as high as our new commander in chief.
WTF is wrong with these people? When Al Gore gave speeches after a few years, they would be broadcast on CSPAN because the Bushies were in charge, but obviously the networks want this to be the tale of the Duel Between Dick Cheney and Barack Obama. One is a disgraced former vice president, a torture lover who lied us into two wars and has a lower approval rating than people who identify as Republicans, vs. President Barack Obama, one of the most popular leaders of the free world and the man in charge of cleaning up the mess Cheney and Bush left in their wake.
Greg Sargent:
Looks like Dick Cheney’s big national security speech at the American Enterprise Institute tomorrow is going to get wall-to-wall cable coverage — giving a major assist to those who hope that his speech will be seen as “dueling” with the one that Obama is planning to give on the same topic tomorrow.
Both CNN and MSNBC will be carrying Cheney’s speech live tomorrow, in addition to carrying Obama’s, spokespeople for both networks confirm to me, barring the intrusion of some major news event. Fox News will certainly be all over the Cheney speech tomorrow — a major cataclysm couldn’t tear them away from such a big moment. So that means roadblocked cable coverage for Cheney.
Obama is set to deliver his big speech on national security at 10 A.M. Cheney’s is set to follow at 10:45. Politico framed the story of tomorrow’s speeches in advance in a piece called: “Barack Obama, Dick Cheney plan dueling speeches.”
This, naturally, raised some hackles on the left, where people pointed out that Obama is the Commander in Chief, meaning his national security views have real-world significance, while Dick Cheney is a private citizen who only has his reputation at stake.
In other words, goes this argument, their speeches will only be “dueling” if folks in the media make the decision to present them that way. Republicans, meanwhile, hope that coverage does proceed along these lines, helping to elevate Cheney and taking down Obama a peg or two.

Fox News "Tea Party" Coverage Crosses The Line: Media Matters
Reply
Fox News is throwing some serious promotional resources behind its coverage of the conservative-driven, anti-tax "Tea Party" movement. The network is encouraging viewers to participate in protests, which it plans to cover live from at least four locations across the country. Now Media Matters says, the network has gone one teabag too far.
Fox News is making a mockery of its famous slogan, the progressive media watchdog says:
Despite its repeated insistence that its coverage is "fair and balanced" and its invitation to viewers to "say 'no' to biased media," Fox News has frequently aired segments encouraging viewers to get involved with "tea party" protests across the country, which the channel has described as primarily a response to President Obama's fiscal policies.
The Media Matters item goes on to beat up Fox for dozens of recent on-air statements it views as too favorable of the tea party movement, such as Glenn Beck's exhortation to "celebrate with Fox News" on tax day.
Fox's Tea Party cheerleading stands in stark contrast to the studied silence observed by CNBC, whose own Rick Santelli got this whole movement started. Since Santelli's impromptu rant blasting government spending on bank bailouts and mortgage relief, he and his network have kept their distance.
The Huffington Post has been asking readers to help us cover -- but not to "infiltrate," per Neil Cavuto -- the many-hundred events as they happen across the country. Click here if you're interested in signing up.

"No wonder Obama's got such an outsized ego. Women want to be with Obama, and men... well, the men in the media want to be with Obama too.
Allah agrees that "flip flops for the public good" are the opening shot in the media/government roll-out of Obama's tax hikes.
Seriously, Mathews and Evan better watch out for the real God. The irony here is that the Muslims would certainly execute them for this blasphemy, extremist or terrorist notwithstanding.
Still the whole idea that Obama is somehow above the U.S. is infuriating enough. Sure Obama may feel that way, but his ******* job is to represent the United States.
Come 2012 he'll have to go slumming to get actual votes from lowly Americans given that the UK and EU have zero electoral votes.
As for girding your loins for the inevitable massive tax hikes that are coming to pay for Obama's national debt, I suspect that's what all the talk from certain parts of the administration was a couple of weeks ago about the possibility of implementing some sort of consumption tax to pay for Obama's health care plan. Its typical Obama deicing making, publicly float an idea and see what sort of reaction it gets before committing to it in whole hearted fashion or dumping it completely. Obama is the master of Triangulation.
most of the comments I wouldn't repeat - if you think the language on here is bad sometimes !!!!!-

How a myth is made
Reply
Unsurprisingly, the public has come to believe these repeated declarations of media bias. A Rasmussen poll (Rasmussen Reports, 7/19/08) found that 49 percent of respondents believe that reporters will try to help Obama win, while 14 percent believe most will try to help McCain. Strikingly, “45 percent say that most reporters would hide information if it hurt the candidate they wanted to win,” while only 30 percent disagree.
Such polls reveal the power of the right-wing media in America. The myth of the pro-Obama media is the same as the myth of the liberal press, and it has been created by a standard strategy: Right-wing pundits declare repeatedly and vociferously that the media are biased in favor of liberals; centrist media pundits, who generally prefer critiques from the right because they don’t make a structural challenge to their work, concede that they have a point; and progressive critics, excluded from both the pro-establishment and the right-wing talkshows that dominate the media, go unheard.

FAIR and BALANCED “Tea Party” Promos on Fox Nation, …..O’REALLY?
The TOTALLY UNBALANCED, BIASED, BIGOTED and sometimes outrightly RACIST Cable “News” Channel — Fox News, is continuing a pattern of encouraging people to participate in “tea party” protests, described primarily as a response to President Obama’s fiscal policies, The Fox Nation linked to an April 8 Fox Forum entry by Fox News contributor James Pinkerton, titled, “Tea Parties: A Great Part of American History — And America’s Future.” The Fox Nation, which Fox News claims does not traffic in “biased media,” also featured an accompanying graphic: a used tea bag superimposed over images of the Constitution and the American flag.

I just ask because, they each gave me negs on every one of my factual comments regarding quotes from Chris Matthews ... in which he ridiculed Barack Obama ... and PRAISED John McCain.
One would think that ... they would have been HAPPY to see Chris Matthews Praising John McCain ... claiming that John had a place in his "heart".
Not to mention the dismissive comments Chris Matthews made about Obama.
So why would those "Attack Dawgs" vote 'NEG" for those comments?
It's like voting AGAINST their own self interest.
Oh ... wait ... I GET it!
In the world of the Modern Republican ... nothing ... NOTHING>/B> is of higher importance than promoting the Whiner Mantra ... (false - as it turns out) ... that Media is Biased towards the LEFT.
I get it - FACTUAL QUOTES are to be disparaged ... if they don't support the Biased to the Left Media Whine.

Wow ... How Morally Vacant is THAT?

Chris Matthews Says He's 'Extremely Proud' Obama Thrilled Him
(CNSNews.com) - Chris Matthews, host of MSNBC's "Hardball," told CNSNews.com at last weekend's White House Correspondents Dinner that he is "extremely proud" that he had been thrilled by President Barack Obama.
During MSNBC’s presidential primary coverage, Matthews said Obama gave him a “thrill” up his leg. On April 1, Matthews said he was getting that “thrill” again when talking about the president’s appearance at the G-20 meeting in London.
Last weekend, Matthews told CNSNews.com that he was "extremely proud" that Obama “thrilled” him because of the “inspiring” way Obama talks about America.
When asked by CNSNews.com at the White House Correspondents Dinner whether he still gets a thrill up his leg from Obama, Matthews said: "I'm an American. Perhaps you find that obscure. But I love my country. And when he talks about my country, he certainly did during the campaign in a way that inspires me. And he thrilled me. I am very proud of that. I have a feeling about my country. When he talked about it, I was inspired. Thrilled. I mean it. I know other people don’t report that. Maybe they don’t have that feeling. But I had that feeling and I will report it." -

How else could Goppy post all those instances of Chris Matthews 'showing the love' for John McCain?
Goppy must be like a super-human.
Or then again ... maybe right wing Ideology is so feeble ... the propaganda so weak ... and the moral underpinnings so much mush ... it's just a simple thing to trounce it.
But I'm glad you are impressed ... thank you.

This entire story was derailed with spam and transcripts. This story is about Obama being compared to God. Stick with the script people. Years of Liberal Media bias are being met with some actual news for conservatives. Deal with it.. we have a long way to go, but at least Fox News is DESTROYING NBC, ABC and CNN in the news department. ouch

The Primary goal of Right Wing Extremists in this century ... has been to discredit Mainstream Media ... to UNDERMINE Mainstream Media.
The purpose of this goal is to give initial plausibility to their own Morally Vacant Ideology.
This has worked for the NAZI's in Germany ... Francisco Franco in Spain ... Benito Mussilini in Italy ... Augusto Pinochet in Chile.
Think about it ... the Right Wing Extremists claim that ALL MEDIA ... all MAINSTREAM MEDIA ... every source of news and information we listen to is SUSPECT ... SLANTED .... BIASED ... against THEM!
And that ... only THEIR sources are to be believed.
Doesn't that sound familiar?
Anyone with half-a-brain ... or moral character still intact ... should run in the opposite direction ... as fast as possible ... from these ethically challenged individuals.

This attempt to characterize any praise for Obama as media bias is funny. This way you can undercut any legitimate positive commentary for our current president and, conversely, dismiss any criticism of Republicans and all the while blame the media. This is the essential ingredient, of course, for the conservative formula to uncouple themselves from reality which is not their friend.
Reply
Because Bush was a failure, his failure had to be rationalized as a consequence of a hostile media. Likewise, Obama's victory in the presidential race must have been another media spin that favored this outcome.
Stick with this theme. Don't acknowledge anything Obama does. I mean after all, he is Hitler, Mao, Jesus, and Stalin all wrapped up in a closet homosexual, secret Muslim, pacifist, totalitarian, police state package. And don't forget to take your lithium and check under your bed for monsters. -

How do people that say crap like this keep jobs in "journalism?" Why haven't they been fired so they can go work in a McDonald's or something that is closer to their actual abilities? If they spew garbage like this in front of the deep fryer, no one will care.
