The Southern Baptist Convention, the nation's largest denomination, has been embarrassed by the comments of the Rev. Wiley Drake, a former officer in the convention, who said he is praying for the death of the president.

Drake, a former SBC vice president who ran for president of the organization last year, said in a recent interview on Fox News Radio: "I am asking God to enforce imprecatory prayers that are throughout the Scripture that would cause [Obama's] death."

When you've grown tired of turning cheeks, loving your enemies and praying for those who persecute you, why not try praying for god to practice some vengeance killing?

Is this guy any different than an Ayatollah issuing a Fatwa?

How completely sad that someone would pray for harm to come to an American president.

Why would this nut add fuel to the fire for those that hate his religion? Is he just a moron or what?

The moral majority, compassionate conservatives,...geez...No wonder people are turning their backs on these people.
You can ask God for many things through prayer..death of a president isn't on the list to my knowledge.
The way i was taught to deal with people i didn't like through prayer was very simple.
Ask God to give the person(s) that i didn't like what he thought they deserved..not what i thought..If that is good,so be it.If it isn't oh well.

YOU CANNOT PETITION THE LORD WITH PRAYER!! - Jim Morrison

Actually, I have to admit that there have been times when I felt that we would be better off if Bush was no longer with us. Then I realize that it wouldn't be good for the country or the world in general. Besides, he had the ultimate bullet proof vest, Dick Cheney.

Clap him in leg-irons, put him in the stocks and stone him to death?
Or crucify him upside down and play "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life" to him at maximum volume through headphones?
Nah.. I don't believe in doing these things but I sure enjoy thinking about them.
Most probably this guy's biggest problem is just having too big a mouth.
Unfortunately, by the law of averages, at least a few members of his flock will indeed take him literally and though they might not be idiotic enough to take action the "buzz" is now out there and can reach into the remains of a brain of some totally pathological nutcase.
Whoever would have imagined the assassinations of the previous Presidents/Candidates/prominent beings..

Prayer works wonder in any religion and only God will do as he wishes. That Preacher is not following the good works of his reverend ancestors.

Using prayer as a tool to murder those he dislikes - I would expect that from a satanist.

The reverend must be an Old Testament preacher. Fire and brimstone and the pits of Hell awaits all sinners but say the magical words, "I believe in Jesus", and you get a fast track to heaven.

If you believe in Jesus, you wouldn't be praying for Obama's death but Jesus' hands guiding him in doing God's work.

This guy obviously spoke with Reverend Wright and decided to tone it down a bit.

Instead of damning the entire country, he'll just damn one man.

We conservative Republicans pray for Obama also. If something happens to him, we're stuck with President Joe "Gaff" Biden. If something happens to him, then we're stuck with Queen Nancy. You bet we're praying for him until 2012.

Remember Pat Robertson saying something about a South American President? Why do these people of the cloth think that they can condemn individuals to death? I thought the purpose of religion is the pursuit of life. I find this quite contradictory.

Yet another week, yet another instance of how evil religion truly is.

How about this. I pray for an end to all religions. They all should be banned. The human race has nothing positive to gain from religion. It does nothing but enslave minds and create immoral, bigoted, racist, unthinking sheeple.

                    Yes.

Some liberals may have "wished" for Cheney to die, but didn't have the sheer gall and shamelessness to announce it in on a public radio program. Chances are also good that the -vast- majority of those wishing harm on Cheney were not leaders of a religion that preaches tolerance, compassion, love, and forgiveness.

If you can't see the difference, you are being obtuse. 8)
