We need a single payer, universal health care system. The insurance, legal, and prescription drug lobbies will scream foul but they have had their chance and really made a mess of it. I support California's SB 840 which would cover all Californians for life. Something like this could easily work nationally.

Though I do not agree with California's SB 840, at least it seems to follow the 9TH and 10TH Amendments to Our Constitution. As I have stated before, National Health Insurance, of whatever type, would only pass Constitutional Muster providing it went through the Amendment Process as outlined in Article 5.
The Federal Government at present has NO SUCH POWER to enact any such law Constitutionally; the complete distortion of the "Commerce Clause" notwithstanding. It will be interesting to see which part of the Constitution Congress tries to use in "justifying" National Health Care. -

How much more can California afford. They can't. I guess that is why you would like universal healthcare so everyone in America could help pay for the massive welfare state that California has created. America does not need to mimmic any failing system that California has created or poposed. Universal Healthcare has to be defeated. Obama and his democrat cronies have done such a good job with the stimulus package we can't afford anymore of their incompetance and socialism.

Anyone who has been in the business knows that the Medicare rates for most procedures and services are as good if not better than the rates of contracting HMOs and PPOs.-

Most medical office workers prefer to work with Medicare as well. It is easier to get procedures covered, the payments are competitive and ON TIME. Private insurance is notorious for delaying payments and/or underpaying AFTER they had agreed to a higher amount. My ex-wife worked for a plastic surgeon and she said it was a nightmare trying to get private insurance to pay for reconstructive surgery. They would actually deny coverage to correct serious cleft lip and palette on infants because since the child was born with the condition it was not technically 'reconstructive'. No, seriously. Don't even think about breast implants after a radical mastectomy. By and large, with Medicare it was 'no problem'.

The irony is, of course, those making enough money to afford private insurance got inferior coverage than those on Medicare.
Think about it. Who would you rather have in charge of your medical care, a public institution answerable to the people, or private corporations that keep a staff of people whose only job is to find ways to deny coverage? A corporation's FIRST responsibility by law is making a profit. Period. -

The only health care program that will succed at increasing longivity and health will be one that is totally free and has the least steps in it's due process or procedures of protocol. This will include free prescriptions too...and licenses will be permits.

"...without just compensation."
Even the people proposing this Socialist scheme admit Medicare payments are less than what a physician usually charges. That's ROBBERY, and hardly "just compensation".
And the 13TH Amendment:

"1. Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.

Which is what it is when one's government DEMANDS that one ply one's private trade for less than what it is worth; because one is not doing so by one's own volition.
And those Amendments are just for starters.
But when did Socialists ever care about constitutions once they were in power? Why break with the tradition of Radicals?

We are already being forced to accept lower wages because too many of our jobs have been outsourced. Jobs that paid $15.00 an hour ten years ago are now paying $9.00 an hour. We can take them or leave them. They may be blue collar jobs but it's still the fact that we have little choice left but to accept the lower pay. Companies have outsourced for cheaper labor.

We also have no choice in stopping our medical records from going on line. We are losing our rights in so many ways and as time goes on we will see more go out the window. We will never regain what the Bush administration took from us and this administration doesn't seem to care very much about peoples rights. The Constitution has been broken over and over and until people get serious about trying to get back the freedoms that were taken or are in the process of being taken...it will only get worse. -

Your entire argument rests on your assertion that Medicare pays less than private insurers. That is not the case. Medicare's compensation is very competitive. In addition, Medicare refuses coverage less often than private insurers.

In regards to the freedom not to participate on sheer principle, I'm of two minds. A businessperson should have every right to run their business in whatever manner best suits them, as long as it does not violate the rights of another. However, we don't allow doctors to circumvent licensing requirements. Also, we don't allow the fire department to pick and choose which fires they will and will not put out, or the police department to pick and choose which crimes they will investigate. Certainly, being a physician carries with it a certain component of public service. For example, we do, by law, compel doctors to stop and assist injured people at the scene of an accident if no other medical personnel have yet arrived. -

I hate to tell you health care is a none starter,today around noon CST The ONE anounced we are on paygo.No more programs that we can't pay for without tax increase,or program cuts.Evan if we split the difference it would be one trillion in cuts,and one trillion in new tax increases.One trillion in new taxes would cause a compleat melt down for our economy,plus a half trillion in program cuts could cause a a half million or more american refugees living out of doors,in the woods,and under bridges.Oh God what has brought America to this place.

Imagine if you will not having to look for a doctor while one will be appointed to you for the rest of your life.
Think about it even if you get Cancer the Government will decide if it is serious enough for you to get Medical Attention. I won't even need a second opinion.
How about this, all I will have to do is pick up the phone and make an appointment to have my Heart Attack analyzed. Well, I guess I could send an E-Mail.
If I visit my Doctor and he decides I need Medicine to take care of my problem and this Medicine is on the list that can be allocated for my illness I may not have to pay a dime. Well, maybe higher taxes but you can't expect something for nothing. Not in this Administration.
Yes, I am excited and I know there may be some fine print that will be overlooked in the Bill by those voting on it but eventually all the necessary restrictions will be brought to the forefront. But nothing anyone will worry about right now. The Real American -

Just the way the govt and banking systems need to be cleaned up. I don't see it happening and I am just one voice.

Fill people up with pills and more pills and create a huge reliant mass of sick individuals who don't know any better!

How about making it illegal to raise fat kids??? How about parents taking more responsibility for raising a healthy child?? Oh yeah,, I'll have the super duper extra large fat meal with all the fat fries I can get... Greasy nasty fast food, over and over, night after night,, oh, but tonight I'll have a diet coke with all the extra fat crap. This country needs PENALTIES for those of you who do NOT know how to stop shoving your face full of fatty crap... Its Blood Money, and Business wants that cash cow to themselves because its easy money over 1/2 of bankruptcies are caused by medical costs....well that says it all about private insurances. a government plan will remove the litigation and private profits that alot of people enjoy making a killing on.

I suspect from comments I've heard from people who pay for their own health care that what might work is getting insurance for catastrophic care, and then pay personally for minor visits to the doctor. When people as consumers pay for something, with competition, it's amazing how the providers manage to lower the cost.

I remember when they mandated car insurance. They said that when everyone has car insurance it would be cheaper for everyone. LOL. They even require us to still get uninsured motorist coverage. This is why I cannot ever support health care reform that does not include a government option. This is why the insurance industry is so opposed to the same government option. In fact, the reform that the insurance companies oppose the most is the one I want, single payer.
