What many tourists do not realize is that camping in the NC mountains is comprised of more than just Boone. If you drive west of Asheville, there are many areas to camp near the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. One of the best locations is near the Nantahala River. There is not a plethora of options near the river but the closest and most affordable camping facility is Brookside Campground and Rafting. Brookside offers both tent and RV camping for those interested.
