Came accross this while trying to get some support for a Belkin product. It seems they discontinued a support option just before the Christmas season in order to minimize bad PR. The way they did it was kind of sly.
Check out some of the other links here too they are pretty useful.

So how long should a company maintain support for?
As long as they are selling an item, or only while it is profitable?
