Can right-wing hate talk lead to murder? »
Posted By FunnyBoyz 5 months, 2 weeks ago in Political NewsI was on "Hardball" today talking about the climate of extreme right-wing rhetoric today, and whether it had anything to do with Wednesday's tragic shooting at Washington's Holocaust Museum, or the May 31 murder of Dr. George Tiller by an antiabortion crackpot.

"...the (Homeland Security) report said the top perceived threat was a "lone wolf": "White supremacist lone wolves pose the most significant domestic terrorist threat because of their low profile and autonomy — separate from any formalized group — which hampers warning efforts."
Reply
Seems the report was right and the far right demagogues were wrong, once again. And still the audiences to these far right wingnuts have no clue that they're following venal and hateful sowers of discord.-

There are virtually no differences between hate speeches and asking someone to kill another person. However, how to deal with it can be tricky. On one hand we do not want hate speeches but on the other hand we do not like people using hate speech as an excuse to suppress legitimate opposition voices.

There are crazy people of every political persuasion, race and creed.
And we all have members of our groups with whom we disagree, and just wish that they would go away.

Just because you make up lies and write them doesn't make them true. Haven't the shrinks been telling you than during their sessions with you at the institution? Just keep this up and you'll never get that window or see sunlight again.

Well.... let me say this. I participate on several sites.. some good some bad. I respect an opinion or story based on supportable facts. some sites do do provide stories that can be backed by facts or other sources. The sad part is... after a member spends fair amount of time on these sites, they fail to see the stories being submitted as less than true, they also fail to check whether or not the information is valid. In short they become part of a common mentality. If said sites objective is to destroy an individual or ideology they move together to try and accomplish that task. A good indicator of whether a site fits this description is by the size of the participating members. It usually will have a small core group of responders.
Reply
I believe we all might fall prey to this in one form or other, but we all should "check the facts". Urban legends are created by not checking the facts. -

Commodore - " Most far left loon liberals do nothing but spread hate and lies and I'm surprised a million people or more haven't died from it."
Reply
I suppose we just haven't mastered the art of murder and genocide like George
Bush who killed some 4200 of our troops and about 600,000 of innocent Iraqi civilians.
We also know of 2541 deaths in Louisiana caused by the Bush's mishandling of the Katrina aftermath. I know you are going to say that Michael Brown and FEMA made all the mistakes. But don't forget it was Bush who rewarded "Brownie" with the political appointment as FEMA head.
And his apathy (actually antipathy) towards global warming allowed pollution and climate change to worsen under his 8 years of rule. I wonder how many will die because of increased cancer and infectious diseases, crop failures, drought, and wars over dwindling resources worsened by Bush's actions.
In contrast to Bush, as you so eloquently put it, we liberals have NOT caused the deaths of "a million people or more." Is failing to cause so many deaths an accomplishment or a failure on our part?

There is a much stronger link between the anti-war left and the deaths of American soldiers in the line of fire than there is between the so-called "right wing talk" which has been construed to be "hateful" and the actions of domestic terrorists. Our enemies overseas know that they cannot beat the U.S. in set-piece battles and must rely on a slow, but steady bleed to turn the tide of American public opinion against military efforts in order to bring about a political climate in the U.S. that forces a withdrawal. Ergo, evidence of their success in that regard, which surely would be reflected in American public opinion, must encourage the enemy.
Reply
If it is fair to consider a link between talk radio and domestic terrorists, it is more than fair to consider a link between the rhetoric of the anti-war left and the deaths of American soldiers.-

To criticize the war is to encourage the enemy to kill our soldiers?
Reply
What, do they listen to Pacifica radio and decide to attack?
Do they log on to the HuffingtonPost and get a renewed fire for jihad?
Do they become emboldened by reading in the NYT that the war was marketed to Americans by WIG, a group of political lobbyists and draft-dodgers ?
No.
- Being against the war doesn't mean being against our soldiers;
- Opposing the invasion and occupation of Iraq does not mean supporting terrorism;
- It is those who get us into war who are responsible for the body count. -

No, there's really no such link.
The fact that the US military kills civilians and tortures prisoners incites people. It's not like it would all be good if we just didn't mention it. It's incredibly stupid to believe it would be. -

BS..."it is more than fair to consider a link between the rhetoric of the anti-war left and the deaths of American soldiers."......Yep...another fact filled comment..58,230 dead in Vietnam.That war was essentially stopped by Americans that protested ,call them the left if you want,but if the people like you had had their way that number of dead would have been doubled.

Making anti-war speeches and blogs?
Or sending the troops into a dangerous part of the world in an illegal, unjustified, and immoral war, backed by "evidence" that proved to be all errors and lies? And supplying them with substandard Humvees and inadequate armored jackets?

Ethnic cleansing is going on in Gaza. Ethnic cleansing (by) the Zionist is a sin and a crime against humanity, and they don't want Barack talking like that because that's anti-Israel."
#2 "The Holocaust is a lie. Obama was created by Jews. Obama does what his Jew owners tell him to do. Jews captured America's money. Jews control the mass media."-

I'm not trying to be a sh*t disturber or anything but I wish people would be careful for what they ask for. I have a worried feeling that the events that took place yesterday are going to eventually to lead to a fight over the freedom of speech.
Reply
I've read alot of comments on here and I"ve seen alot of hate and there are a few questions I would like to ask that maybe will make people stop and think.
Question 1; Was Ronald Reagan a Rebublican?
Question 2; Did someone try to kill President Reagan?
Question 3; Was this person influenced by someone talking hate against President Reagan and was that person a person who was an extremist on the left?
I will admit that I don't know enough about your country or its history to comment at times when other people ask questions but I know that extremists do excist both on the right and left and they do promote hatered and they must be watched and they must be charged if they commit a crime, but I hope that you refrain from asking that the right to free speech be changed.-

You picked a poor example, because we know the answer to question #3, and the answer is "no" and "no"...you should've gone with the Squeaky Frome-based analogy.

I'm chalking it up to you not knowing, as you indicated, enough about our country and history.
Free speech is a great thing about America, but you still can't yell "fire" in a crowded theater with only one exit.

James von Brunn just happened to be a "birther,"
Reply
A “birther," that’s a new one!
So he didn’t think John McCain could be president cause he was born in Panama?
What an idiot.
I do know that he was a “truther” and accused Bush and Cheney of being behind the 911 attack to get the ME oil.
“James von Brunn is shaping up to be the worst right-winger in the world. It seems von Brunn was a radical atheist who wrote pieces posted on the Anti-Christ Atheist Network”
He supported Ron Paul for President.
(in fact looking at this guys writing he would have fit in well with most of the “progressives” here on propeller, could be Goppy, Hyperboy)
Hated both Presidents Bush and other "neo-conservatives"
Hated Christians, Jews (no mention of Islam, but a good guess he hated them too)
Hated McCain
Hated Obama
Is there a pattern here?
Perhaps folks on propeller not doing their own research? -

The left and right in America do not mirror each other;
public radio is not calling for leftists to get their guns ready;
cnn is not leading hate fests like a bill o'reilly special on tiller.
But we of the left were free and easy with bashing bush,
till you heard all kinds of calls for his death and dismemberment.
The late member FrauBlucher proclaimed she wanted to dance on Cheney's grave. She was surprised I said that was kinda scary.
But it was scary; and wrong.

It´s all beginning with words. Hatred and racism always have their first break through in language before bearing deeds. There is a climate of envy, mistrust and frustration among the right-winged population, a rarely hidden fear for an "inverted rascism". The murder at the Holocaust Museum should be taken as a signal for more attention: Some people don´t only make stupid utterances, they use the weapons they fear to be taken away by the Obama administration. So, start the fight against racist rhetoric, because it´s the seed on which violence can grow!

The attitudes and speech being spouted by the left today about the "rich" being the cause of today's problems is just as contributory as anything the right has to say. Remember, Jews are supposed to all be rich and have Power over everything. Just listen to the left wing Revs. Jeremiah Wright and Louis Farrakhan and their anti_Semite messages.

Hate talk doesn't lead to murder. And if it did, it wouldn't be from something said on FOX News or any of the other cable network news programs. I watch them all religiously and have never once heard any personality on any of these networks encourage violence against anyone. The problem here is that blaming someone else for a crime is an easy, lazy solution and takes away from the perpetrator any semblance of responsibility because good God, there can't be deranged people out there who would do these things of their own free will.

I watch much of the so called right wing media and listen to talk radio and I really don't hear hate, what I hear is dismay that the country would allow the mass killing of life outside the womb. That our constitution means nothing to them. The american way of life is at such conflict within itself it is scary.
