Did Letterman's Joke About Palin's Daughter Go Too Far? »
Posted By btatman22 8 months ago in Political NewsLate night talk show funny-man David Letterman is a known left wing political jokester. Letterman often uses his liberal ideology to identify with his audience and take jabs at conservatives. Tuesday night Letterman took aim at Gov. Sarah Palin and her family, making them the target of his ‘top ten’ list.

Making hateful jokes about a fourteen year old girl being raped at a baseball game is way over the top. Then last night Letterman actually denied what he said the night before but did anyone hear4 an apology. Letterman is a creep and it's really distasteful for someone his age to poke fun at a little girl especially in the vulgar way he did it. Looks to me like he shares some of the same proclivities as ordinary pedophiles.

Um...he never used the word RAPE. He made a joke about Sptizer. Not about Palin. She is so desperate for media attention now that she's a nobody again that her camp is the one who changed what Letterman said to RAPE.
Reply
So you are calling David Letterman a pedophile because he made a joke about Elliot Spitzer being a pervert?

I find that joke to be sickening.
Reply
I don't care for Letterman anyway.
Having grown daughters and a teenage grandaughter, I would like to tell Letterman that his perverted humor only kindles the perception that sex with underage girls is not only acceptable it is funny !!!!
I'd knock his as* down if he said it about my daughter or grandaughter.
btw I don't like Palin, but her family is off limits just as Obamas family is. You don't attack the children of the parent, if you are a decent person. -

It was tasteless and crass. Letterman claims he meant Bristol not Willow but that changes nothing. His "tolerant, liberal" views are plain to see. Hatred rules the day.
Reply
Diehard fans of Letterman and diehard haters of Sarah Palin will defend the "Joke" but it is simply a pathetic attempt to capitalize on ones own personal prejudices for a cheap laugh.-

Yeah, he claims he was talking about 18 year old Bristol Palin but it was 14 year old Willow who was at the ballgame. He had to hear about the Palin's trip to the game and he had to have heard which children attended. He's a creepy, nasty, dirty old man.

Just who do these men think they are that they can trash women with impunity?

What is it about the current atmosphere that encourages men to belittle the governor of one of our United States, just because she is a woman.
I think that men are beginning to think that they do not have to follow the rules of civility.
It would be interesting to do a search on any word considered "crude" and see if those words were used more by men or by women on propeller.-

Men used to be gentlemen.
Some still are.
It always amazes me when I open a door for a lady and she acts surprised. Or if I give up my seat in a waiting area for a lady and they are shocked or embarassed.
I taught my daughters to expect to be treated as ladies, by the same token they must behave like ladies if they expect that kind of treatment.
I have seen far to many women act like street walkers then protest when they are not respected as ladies. LOL
Either way children are not to be used as the object of a sick demented joke, by a less than moral person. No matter whose children they are !!!!!
That is something I'll stand up and fight for to my dying day. -

You are so right especially if the woman is a conservative. Just last week there was on article from Salon.com, they have scrubbed it, but it was titled "10 Conservative Women I'd Like to Hate F word". and where are the feminists? Ha, the feminists think a woman loses all rights if she is a conservative, what a herd of hypocrites. -

yes. that's what many men think, unfortunately. but there are lots of men who don't think this way. so much so, in fact, that we'd never dare tell a woman what she can and cannot do with her own body.
"What is it about the current atmosphere that encourages men to belittle the governor of one of our United States, just because she is a woman."
the current atmosphere is very antagonisitc. and neither side is helping much. (and it ain't like I'm part of the solution at times).
but lets face it, Palin hasn't done herself any favors by showing up in front of the world obviously unprepared. the Katie Couric interview is a great example. Palin was exposed for not being able to think on her feet (to some very simple questions), and that was woman v. woman.
"I think that men are beginning to think that they do not have to follow the rules of civility."
men aren't beginning to think this. this is what many men have always thought. for whatever reason. good or bad. (mostly bad when you don't follow the rules). just look at war, which is by and large men, and the result of the complete breakdown of civility. -

Liberal Hypocrisy 101, attack the opposition, then defend the double standard.
Reply
You think Letterman would make jokes about Michelle Obama or her 2 daughters?
Nope, but he defends his comments as a "joke" never mind the fact that feminists won't speak up for Palin if their life depended on it.
Lets face it, Lettermans foul humor has brought Sarah Palin back into the spotlight, defending her daughter which will be seen as honorable and make her look like a strong female (aka candidate for 2012)-

Of course it doesn't. Letterman is a democrat so he can say anything about anyone. If a Republican does, they're held to a much hire standard. Free speech only protects those who support the left in this country. When was the last time you heard the ACLU defend a conservative's right to free speech? Never.

BB - Please do a little research before writing an absolutely erroneous and stupid post like this. I do not know how to link an article but google ACLU and conservative causes. There are at least a couple of hundred cases where the ACLU defended conservative religions and causes. Like a case where they defended the right of conservatives to protest at a gay rally. Or the right of religious convicts to preach in prison.

I can not possibly list them all. Please go look for yourself. -

re: "I do not know how to link an article but "
This is what you do... it is real easy to do.
1)
You click once onto a web link ..it doesn't matter if it is in the address bar of your browser or if you saw it on google or some other search engine.
2) After you clicked the web address once, it becomes highlighted.
3) Then while it's highlighted, usually in blue, you right click and then you'll see a little gray box appear. Point the arrow to where it says COPY and then you Left click once and this web link address is then saved.
4) Now when you are ready to write a comment about something and you want to add what you just Left clicked... All you have to do is Right click once in a box of a document or comment or whatever you are typing into and then that same little gray box appears.
Then you point your mouse arrow to where it says PASTE and Left click once and your web address link will now magically appear.
5) Now go and do this 150 times for homework and we will quiz you again tomorrow to see if you remembered how to do the copy and paste thingy.
=)

From Wikipedia:
The ACLU also defended Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North, whose conviction was tainted by coerced testimony — a violation of his fifth amendment rights.
In 2006, the ACLU of Washington State and the Second Amendment Foundation jointly filed a lawsuit[68] against the North Central Regional Library District (NCRL) in Washington for its policy of refusing to disable restrictions upon an adult patron's request. Library patrons attempting to access pro-gun web sites were blocked, and the library refused to remove the blocks.
And from a news article:
ACLU of Louisiana Files Lawsuit to Protect Free Speech Rights of Christian Protestor (10/27/2006)
Urges Overturning of Local Ordinance Requiring Permit for Speech
NATCHITOCHES, LA -- Today the American Civil Liberties Union of Louisiana filed a lawsuit on behalf of a lone protestor who was denied his free expression rights by the city of Natchitoches. Edwin Crayton, a devout Christian, sought to stand in front of Wal-Mart in Natchitoches with a sign protesting the corporation’s alleged position on gay marriage.-

Yeah, but you guys get to go around shooting up museums, law enforcement officers, and blow up federal buildings...so it's really only fair.
Reply
I hear about the ACLU defending conservative speech all the time...just like judge Sotomayor defended the right of some white guy spreading hate at his job. You would too if you looked for it, or stopped frequenting outlets that only tell you what you think you already know.
Seriously, you guys have got to stop assuming that, just because you haven't seen something, it doesn't exist. I actually research...which is why I was able to tell for myself that Fox is neither fair or balanced, and before you come back with the now standard right-wing response, let me say it now...high ratings does not the equivalent of truth.

How is this "joke" not much, much worse than the "nappy-headed ho's" comment that cost Imus his job?
Reply
I'm not really mourning Imus' loss, however. This seems far more offensive to me -- perhaps bacause I've got an 18 year old daughter and don't think that just because he thought he was talking about the 18 year old rather than the 14 year old that the comment was any better.-

I didn't like this joke any better than I liked the "ugly" jokes about Amy Carter and Chelsea Clinton.
Reply
Although at least one of those jokes was created by an entertainer (Rush), they were repeated endlessly by politicians. Who here can claim they did not laugh when they heard them?
Yeah, let's talk about hypocrisy. -

Mutainia, like I said before sometime you can go to far with a joke only not realizing sometimes that joke can hurt ones feelings, but he really was talking about the 18 year old girl but even then it went a little to far and I am not right wing.
