Letterman Owes Palin, Flight Attendants, Women in General an Apology »

Posted By pc25 5 months, 2 weeks ago in News

This is why I stopped watching David Letterman even before Jon Stewart came along: He was forever either drooling on women or treating them like they were perfect idiots, in a way he never behaved with male guests. (I did, however, enjoy the appearances of his mom Dorothy, a church secretary who was occasionally able to summon Good Dave, live from her kitchen in Indiana.)

While it's true, as I've argued before, that liberals don't seem to grasp that their dismissive treatment of Palin is unwise as well as unseemly, Letterman's long history as an equal opportunity offender in no way lets him off the hook.

and I'll add this to her comment dismissive treatment of women in general.

Well pc25, you finally did it. You posted an article I can give a prop to. In my opinion, Letterman does have a long list of people he needs to be apologizing to.

Oh, I didn't agree with everything the author wrote, especially where she painted with a broad brush and lumped all liberals together. But many articles critical of the right/conservative position does the same thing, so I'll forgive her using shorthand. My only response to her, and to your addition in your first comment is that there are many liberals who have something akin to manners and try not to act boorishly to anyone, man or woman.

Anyhow, you almost ruined it with your comment concerning the Rush joke re: Obama and God and birth certificates. I thought, why post that on this thread? I'll bet you get some comments and negs over that. Still, I figured you were putting it in as an example of legitimate political humor.

So I avoided giving you a neg - didn't want to ruin the moment of actually giving a story of yours a prop.

    Take care.

Letterman is a low-rent a-hole who no doubt is relieved that Leno is no longer kicking his @$$ in the ratings.

If Wanda Sykes hoping that Limbaugh's kidneys fail passes for humor these days, I hope that Letterman's heart fails. Anyone taking shots at 14-year-olds (don't believe the BS that he was talking about Bristol) doesn't have a heart anyway.

I don't care where you stand politically or if you like Sarah Palin or not, her family has suffered brutal and humiliating treatment at the hands of the left and the media. Never can I recall a politician's CHILDREN subjected to such vile, hateful comments. Yes, Chelsea Clinton was made fun of for her appearance and that was wrong, but it in no way compares to the sheer cruelty aimed at Palin's children which has included ridiculing a then 17 year old pregnant teenager, now the 14 year old sexual rape, and even remarks about her MR son. It makes me sick.....what is this world coming to when we make political footballs of innocent children.

I'm not a Letterman fan, but Sarah Palin stuck herself and her unmarried, pregnant teenaged daughter out there in the public's eye during the last election. If my daughter had gotten pregnant at 17, I don't think I would have paraded her on stage the way Palin did. I doubt I'd have run for Vice President at that time either. When you are a "celebrity" as Palin has become, you are fair game for all the comedians, and sometimes they can be pretty crude. Palin wears short skirts and clothes designed to flatter her comely figure. Bristol Palin is all over the air waves talking about her unmarried, pregnant experience. Not conducive to gaining respect from the public. We all know how Palin wooed a bunch of Washington moguls to get their attention...and the VP nomination. Let them take their lumps like the rest of the rich and famous.

A good comic has to walk a tight line if they want to be good. Anyone who works as long as Lettermen is bound to go where some people will disagree about whether he went too far. Palin used Bristol as a political prop and once you do that it becomes fair game to make jokes about her getting knocked up. Lettermen just mixed up the daughters. This is far different from just hate like Michael Richards who lost it and called some hecklers the N word. This is relatively minor and Dave apologized. By the way I can't wait to see what Bill Maher says on Real Time on HBO Friday. If you think what Dave said was bad you are really gonna be really ticked when Maher goes off. He has already been canned before for what he said on ABC. Now he's on HBO so he doesn't give a crap anymore because he knows you can do whatever you want on HBO and he won't be apologizing to anyone for it. Finally think if instead if Obama had a daughter who got knocked up unmarried and underaged like Bristol. Do you think the republicans like Libaugh would show a bit of mercy? Not in a million years.

Letterman owes NO ONE any apologies.

He did, in fact, admit that his jokes were in poor taste.

So, what else is new?????????? He and every other comedian on the planet tell jokes that can be considered as 'poor taste'.

Letterman never mentioned ANY names in his jokes, and he has already explained, MORE THAN ONCE, that the jokes were about the 17-year-old daughter who now has a child (can't remember her name, don't care if I know it or not).

Letterman has already explained, MORE THAN ONCE, that he does not and will not 'make fun of' or tell any jokes of any sexual nature regarding MINORS.

      And CaptainLucid is absolutely correct.

If the Palins were Democrats, they would have been skewered by you all and the Republicans a long time ago, and any subsequent jokes about them from anyone would have been considered HILARIOUS by Republicans and by you all.

This just more of the usual self-righteous cr*p and hypocrisy from the righties.

And I was just wondering ...

Where are all of your defenses for "free speech"??

Every time Limbaugh or Beck or Hannity say anything derogatory about anyone, you jump in to defend what he said as "free speech", along with trying to excuse it as "joking".

Well, Letterman was joking, and I believe he is also entitled to "free speech".

So, I guess your version of all that is that free speech and "joking" are ok only for conservatives and/or Republicans.

I DO love the hypocrisy of it all ....

I don't know why this was removed as spam, I think that it applies to the present

situation:Bullying is the act of intentionally causing harm to others, through verbal harassment, physical assault, or other more subtle methods of coercion such as manipulation.

In colloquial speech, bullying often describes a form of harassment perpetrated by an abuser who possesses more physical and/or social power and dominance than the victim.

The victim of bullying is sometimes referred to as a target. The harassment can be verbal, physical and/or emotional.

      Tending to browbeat others.

Letterman had the mike, and he said something that could not be refuted publicly,

The media is spending tons of airtime analyzing this.

      And in other news:

      N. Korea is about to launch another ICBM, while Kim Jong-Ill replies to the world community in sign language.

US leaders talk about a nationalized health care program that will screw many citizens out of their longevity.

The price of gasoline continues to rise out of fear of supplies (even though OPEC agreed to suspend production cuts and people continue to reduce consumption).

Jobless and foreclosure rates continue to rise.

The president just returned from Greenbay, Wisconsin.

      Is this trip still on?:
Obama Plans Trip to Russia, Italy, Ghana Next Month
President Obama will travel to Russia, Italy and Ghana for almost a week in July.

President Obama is heading to Russia, Italy and Ghana for almost a week next month.

The White House says Obama will travel to Moscow from July 6-8 for a summit with Russia's president, Dmitry Medvedev. Their agenda includes reducing the stockpile of nuclear weapons, cooperating on nonproliferation and trying to work out differences on a U.S. missile defense system in Poland and the Czech Republic.

Obama plans to attend a Group of Eight summit in L'Aquila, Italy, from July 8-10, and hold talks with world leaders there on issues such as the economic crisis and climate change.

The trip is to end with a visit to Accra, Ghana, from July 10-11. It will be Obama's first presidential stop in Africa. Obama's father was from Kenya.

Guess Obama is happy having the US Taxpayers footing the bills for his absences from the capital. That way he isn't responsible for anything but "improving our image.

I'm hoping that Palin keeps pushing this in the media. She doesn't have the political skill to deal with the ramifications.
The fact of the matter is that she has a daughter who is an unwed mother. What kind of parenting skills does that represent? Does she really believe that she can turn this into some kind of moral judgement against Letterman? What are you going to do, throw another tea party?
