You have a few "heavy duty" proppers but on reading the "story" I feel obliged to drop it because it is SO badly written. If the information is true then itmust be available from a source that can actually put thoughts and words together congruently!

They don't mention that 60% of the people declaring bankruptcy are middle class people with medical bills and most actually have health insurance.

If we don't take care of the goose that lays the golden eggs (earns the money and pays the taxes), she won't be laying any more eggs to take care of the children with nothing. -

The longest war this nation has ever fought is the war on poverty. For the trillions we've spent and continue to spend, there are still poor people. Why? Could it be because of our attempts to correct perceived inequalities, we destroyed the incentives for a person to actually succeed on their own without a handout. My family came here with virtually nothing in 1938. They were part of the Austrian government that fell when Hitler invaded. With little more than the cloths on their backs, they built a new life for themselves. Why do our poor continue the same lives as their parents and grand parents? It's time to offer help but not a hand out. If you are able to work then you should be doing something. If you can't find a job, then for a set amount of hours, we should put you to work cleaning parks and streets if you want a check.

Obama had NOTHING to do with the malise that affects our country today, This is the result of a long term effort by your elected officials. Our industrial-manufacturing base has been destroyed, thanks in part to the green movement and tax adventages for outsourcing and offshoring.

No entity can be economically sucessful running on borrowed money..(trade deficit)..We ask our creditors to buy our treasury notes. We are on a slippery slope to oblivion... -

The "War On Poverty" was lost before LBJ declared it; for as Jesus said:

"You will always have the poor with you, but you will not always have me with you."
From the article:
"... the poverty line set by US government takes into account inflation, using the CPI (Consumer Price Index) and it recognizes that poverty is lack of goods and services that is considered basic amenities by mainstream society."
"...that is considered basic amenities by mainstream society."
Most, if not all, of those in the truly impoverished Third World countries, would KILL for a shot at what we in America deem "poverty".
We have the "richest" poor folks in the world.
One must also keep in mind that when America (by NOT enforcing its laws againt illegal immigration) allows the poorest of a country's poor to reside here, there will ALWAYS be a class of "poor people". -
