Common sense tells me that it does not make sense to wage a war on an abstract enemy known as "terror". In essence, there is only one reason that we are in Afghanistan / Pakistan; to kill or capture Osama bin Laden and to dismantle the Taliban. To ransack a nation, expose our troops to death and injury, and to deplete our national treasury only profits one entity, the military industrial complex.

The best way to protect our nation and to address 9-11 is to use special forces only and to infiltrate the Taliban for the specific purpose of capturing or killing bin Laden. The best way to defeat a terrorist organization is to win the support of the people that they must exploit.
Of course, this does not quench the thirst for revenge and the glory hunters, who think with their genitalia as opposed to using their gray matter.-

"What do you know about special operations?"

Quite a lot, Spade. Thank you.

That's a very nice thought, Spade. A job for the Peace Corps, perhaps?
However, I suspect, one week of terror applied to a family, village, town or city can undo a decade of niceness.-

Even though you and yours take great satisfaction in ascribing failure to things that haven't failed and misappropriating causation to things that have, the last 8 years particularly in the Middle East have not been failures, Spade.

Indeed! And it doesn't matter who is the perpetrator of the perceived terror. Ask the citizens of Fallujah, for example..

it actually profits the people we are waging "war" against since it depletes our ability to respond to actual threats allowing them to wage a war of attrition. Look at Iraq we had a quarter million troops held in place by 20K terrorists max at the highpoint, You dont win those wars.
