Right-Wing Terror Returns »

Wednesday's shooting at the Holocaust Museum in D.C.--the second attack by a domestic terrorist in two weeks--killed one and left others injured. As details on the suspect, a white supremacist leader, come to light, a controversial government memo on right-wing terror earlier this year deserves another look.

Well, I wouldn't characterize the murder as right-wing, exactly.

The guy is obviously a major nut-job, and thus the shooting transcends the very ideology it also embodies (in its most extreme manifestation).

Though I can't say I recall a case in which a leftie has opened fire in a similar fashion against, say, an anti-abortion proponent. Can anyone else?

According to friends in the neo-Nazi community, Von Brunn had become increasingly unstable and upset in recent weeks as he fell under hard times. "He said his Social Security had been cut and that he was barely making it," one acquaintance told the Washington Post. "He felt it was the direct result of someone in Washington looking at his Web site." In previous years, Von Brunn had supported himself largely by selling racist copies of a racist newspaper, the Post reports, and had made cryptic references to going out "with his boots on," his ex-wife said.

He is a nut job,but a nut job in love with far right ideologies, therefore a right-wing nutter.Had he stormed into a republican fund raiser, shot a few people, shouting viva the soviets.Whilst at his home many books about Marx,Engels,Lenin etc were strewn about,he would gave been a left-wing nutter.Same sad result, different ideologies.

In one of his e-mail blasts expressing his white supremacist views, Von Brunn told readers that they shouldn't expect to hear from him again.

Von Brunn is said to have been a leading writer in the white supremacist fringe for many years. He also appears to be the author of a recent Internet posting suggesting that President Obama's background is being hidden from the public.

Yes, right- and left-wing extremism meet.

        It's all one-think authoritarianism, really.

Glenn Beck offered his own bizarre take on the Holocaust Museum shooting last night, telling his flock that it was a warning of things to come. “The pot is boiling,” Glenn gravely intoned, and nut-jobs are going to come out of the woodwork. “Groups like al-Qaeda are even planning to work with white supremacists, coming through our southern border.” And target of said nut-jobs? Not only Jews but conservatives, like himself.

A self-described artist, advertising man and author living in Annapolis, Md., von Brunn wrote an anti-Semitic treatise, "Kill the Best Gentiles," that he said no one would publish. He decries "the browning of America" and claims to expose a Jewish conspiracy "to destroy the White gene-pool."

Public records show that in 2004 and 2005 von Brunn lived briefly in Hayden, Idaho, which for years was home to the Aryan Nations, a racist group run by neo-Nazi Richard Butler.

Von Brunn's accounts of what shaped his character as a boy and young man are heavy with dark episodes blamed on Jews and other minorities. After each account, he draws a "moral."

Ah...I get it now...The tact the fringe right-wing now follows, every time one of them finally goes over the edge (with increasing, and alarming, regularity...proving the DHS Threat Report to absolutely on point), to deflect attention from themselves...is to accuse him/her of being anything except right-winger...even if he/she:

                    1. Is wearing a "Hello! My Name is...R. Ightwinger Nutjob" name tag.
                    2. Has pockets full of receipts from their donations to various right wing politicians.
                    3. Is carrying an autographed photo of Rush Limbaugh.

I don't know why I expected them to have any shame, because first it would require them to have a soul, or at least common sense...and try as I might, I haven't seen any of those three things in the years I've followed politics.

At least when the left-wing fringe goes off, now, the worst that usually happens is your unifinished and vacant spec house, built in some formerly unspoiled wilderness...burns down, some lab animals get freed, or you just end up with a contact high from the smoke of all the weed they smoked to console themselves when some GOP pol gets elected.

All told, I'll take a lefty going off the rails over a rightie any day...the lefty usually hasn't had a life-long love affair with guns, and fantasies about shooting someone...and they're pro-life (once someone is actually born that is...illustrating another big dif between the two sides...once someone is born, righties seem to stop caring about their life)

A note found in von Brunn's underscores his right-wing anti-Semitism. It said in part, "Obama was created by Jews.":

                      http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/3036677/#31275494

You won't find anyone on the left supporting that statement.
