Hate Groups Riled Up, Researchers Say - CNN.com »
Posted By TimALoftis 6 months ago in Political News(CNN) -- Hate groups have intensified their rhetoric in recent months, but this new energy hasn't necessarily translated to an increase in the rate of hate crimes in the U.S., according to some researchers.
Hate groups' activity and vitriol on Web sites have spiked in recent months, according to Brian Levin, associate professor and director of the Center for Study of Hate and Extremism at California State University, San Bernardino.
"Each person connected to these groups appears to be more riled up and more active," Levin said.
That view was echoed by Heidi Beirich, director of research at the Southern Poverty Law Center.
"If you look at the Web site postings, this is what they're talking about: a terrible economy, immigrants taking your jobs, and having a black president," Beirich said.
President Obama's election has been a huge issue with white supremacist groups, in part because he represents in their minds a demographic shift in which the white majority in the United States is becoming slimmer, Levin added.
"Interracial marriage and interracial children are the worst thing in their world, so [the demographic shift] is a big deal for them," Levin said.

The back lash of racism with the election of Barack Obama has not been subtle. We can read it in the comments of many of the Propellerheads who were among those who frequently call President Obama a Muslim, a terrorist, and a foreigner. Extremists from the far right have declared war on the United States because of this. Their hatred for Mexicans, hyphenated Americans, Muslims, dark skinned Americans, liberals, and Jews is turning from just rhetoric.
With shock jocks like Limbaugh and the sensationalism exploited on mainstream TV, there is blood is in the waters. And, the frenzy of from those that would act out violently against their targets of hatred is becoming more frequent.-

And libby has to blind if he can't see the increase in hate crimes.

I stand by my comment that anyone who drops an article on hate crimes and the people who commit them are as bad as the perpetrator themselves
They're just to afraid or dumb to acknowledge it...

I certainly was Less than thrilled when Bush was elected, twice. I always felt that he did not have the best interests of the country in mind. I never thought to have him killed or hurt so I really don't understand the hatred that comes from some people. We see it here on propeller all the time, the absolutely absurd comments about liberals and Obama. I don't think that most of these people fully understand what is really going on but they know they don't like it. President Obama is not a Muslim and even if he were, so what, there is no litmus test for religious affiliation to be President. I could go on and on about the absurd accusations the right tries to blame Obama with but we've all seen them and for the most part they are not even close to being true. The hate is just plain old ignorance and bigotry by mentally twisted people.

there are "researchers" being put in charge of reading comments on websites?
Reply
and that "research" says, the "vitriol" has "spiked?"
and even though hate crime has not risen, this makes the news?
uh, oh, racist bloggers are spewing more vitriol! look out.
FTA "The number of reported anti-Semitic assaults and incidents of harassment and vandalism in the United States declined in 2008 for the fourth straight year"
"Though the Internet is full of people spewing hate, "the vast, vast majority of [them] never do anything to act on it," said Jeffrey Toobin, CNN senior legal analyst."
I wonder if these "researchers" have included spadercaller's hate-filled rhetoric in their analysis.-

We have to keep mentioning the "hate groups."

After all, that "islamofascist" and "terrorist" spiel has been getting played out... even the nursing home residents aren't afraid to go out for a walk these days.
Orwell had to write a few more, perhaps some dealing with organized religion. -

can we get a "Domestic Terror" homeland security advisory, please? This article is obviously an indicator that we need to be on the lookout and it would really help me if I could know what xylophone color we are on.

Observe closely the deflectors of blame, the apologists, the subject changers, and the attackers of people that dislike hate groups. You will quickly notice that every last one of them claim conservative principles. They have commented above.

Observe even closer the accusers. You will quickly notice their failure to differentiate among different people is actually very similar to the root problem with racism. Racists see the world in terms of groups, rather than acknowledging their unique character inherent in every individual. The very worst of them, who see this as a characteristic of the extreme right, place these labels based on perceived groupings. They have commented above.

I don't recall anyone arguing that anti-Semitc murderers were not horrific criminals. There is nobody saying that KKK members, Timothy McVeigh wannabes, and other racist criminals do not deserve the condemnation that society places on them.
This is because the accusers accept everything that fits into their neat little paradigm of the world, and reject anything that doesn't. Their minds are already made up and as solidified as Von Brunns. -

I suppose you're going to try and convince us that Louis Farrakhan and Jeremiah Wright are gun toting, white supremacists, right wing, conservative Republicans too.

When are you going to wake up and understand that bigotry IS NOT just the purview of one political party? Try as you might, you won't be able to do it. Politics has nothing to do with whether one is a bigot or not!
In fact, classifying one group and only one group, that is, conservative republicans, as bigots, is the very epitome of bigotry.
