Sarah Palin: Obama Girls Off Limits, Why Aren't Mine? »
Posted By Eagle_Eye 5 months, 3 weeks ago in Political NewsGov. Sarah Palin came out smiling, but swinging, on an appearance on the 'Today' show this morning. Ostensibly an interview about the Alaska natural gas pipeline and the future of the Republican party, the conversation quickly turned to David Letterman's comment that Palin looks like "a ****ty flight attendant," and his remarks about Palin's daughter, Willow.
Matt Lauer defended Letterman at one point saying Letterman, "did not mention Willow by name," to which Palin said, "I would say that you and anybody else are extremely naïve to believe David Letterman's extremely convenient excuse....Regardless, it was a degrading comment about a young woman."
When Lauer asked if Palin's response to Letterman, that he couldn't be trusted around Willow, was in bad taste, Palin said, "Take it however you want to take it."

I do agree with her being upset about the joke, it was in poor taste. But they are really blowing it out of proportion and I wish that it would stop. Don't give her any more opportunities for air time.

I don't understand how they got "rape" out of that joke either....-

That is my biggest problem. A joke about the promiscuity of a public figure like A-Rod or Spitzer that was clearly meant to be funny suddenly became the rape of their 14 year old daughter. Honestly, I don't know how anyone can listen to her lie like that.
Reply
And if she didn't want her kids being part of her persona, then why did she make them part of her persona? She is the one who talked about being a hockey mom, who used her pregnant daughter and her boyfriend as props. We didn't ask to know them. She put them in front of us. -

That's Sarah Palins way of keeping herself in the lime light and on conservatives minds! She doesn't want to fade into the sunset, she's got high asperations for 2012, and wants to keep her face and name on the republican mind.. Another thing, playing the poor me, i have been so mistreated victum, is definitely a plus, or at least that 's what she thinks.
I don't think the joke was in good taste, but why did she bring President Obama's name into it. When her daughter was being scourged during the election, wasn't it President Obama who said families are off limits???? Now she wants to BOO HOO because no one is talking about his kids, but are talking about hers.. She's an idiot, and the people who voted for her showed their true intelligence by simply voting for her. -

eagle, you show a little bias there when you say above that Letterman was talking about Willow... who has not been in the news other than her licking her hand to comb her little sister's hair at the RNC Convention.... all along it has been the older sister who has been in the limelight and the obvious person refered to by Letterman! 18 year olds williing to go out on TV shows and defend a political viewpoint are surely meat for comedians foremost and opposing politicians!

I don't like alot of what Sarah Palin does, and I despise the assault on wolves in Alaska, but on this issue, she is right. It was in very bad taste about Sarah Palin, and Willow. I don't think much of David Letterman for saying it, and I don't think much of Matt Lauer for bringing up. Bad taste for sure.

Exactly ... just as it was reprehensible when Rush Limbaugh spent an entire show ridiculing Chelsea Clinton as being as ugly as ugly can get ... even though she was only 13 at the time.
Reply
Now that I'm thinking about it ... there was no outcry from the Right OR the Left back then ... and when the Clinton's complained ... they were viewed as ... 'over-reacting' to an 'mere' entertainer.
.
Funny ... those double standards that Palin talks about.

The joke was in TERRIBLE TASTE..

that being said.. she did trot out the kids at every chance.. the Obama kids were rarely seen.. but the cameras were always focused on Bristol holding Palin's baby.. when you paint a bullseye on them .. don't blame someone for taking a shot..-

She was playing an angle,, vying for admiration and pity all at the same time for her family values, plus her determination to have a baby even if it meant she was going to probably leave that child as a burden on other family members and the state of Alaska at ther death.

And what politician kept his children hidden in that campaign. You are an idiot to say that the Palin children should have been hidden while the Obama were put in the limelight. Then the charge that she was hiding the children would have been made by people like you. Anything a conservative does is evil and hateful. That is the truth according to little willie boy.

IMO, if the kid is 18 or over and does something stupid, they are fair game.
Reply
that said, Letterman's joke wasn't funny or clever.
but now it seems Palin is trying to use the incident (and by extension, use her own daughter) as a springboard to get back in the game. which is just as sad, if not more sad than anything Letterman could have said, since he's just an entertainer.
but really...its over. get over it.-

Palin built her campaign around conservative traditional family values. Those may be her values but her real life is the opposite.
Reply
She is a working mother ( who doesn't have to work) who could be staying at home to raise her children. She has a special needs infant and a pregnant teenage daughter and she still doesn't understand that perhaps her family needs her at home. No, she feels the need to tell other people what is right for their lives and country. If she truly values the traditional family she would be playing the traditional role of mother and staying home to take care of her own issues first.

During the election President Obama took up for Sarah Palin's family by saying that "families are off limits".
Reply
Her thanks to him is to stab him in the back repeatedly. He's the much better person, never saying one thing about her unwed pregnant daughter.. You can bet your sweet ass had the tables been turned she would have had a riot going over a presidential candidate dragging his preggy daughter down the campaign trail with him. He showed her respect while she told lies and had people in assassination mode, calling for his death..
Sarah Palin isn't worth what Barack Obama flushes.. My opinion, and i'm entitled to it! -

Kids are off limits.
Letterman has apoligized;
which is a good start.
Every dem should be on guard against
references to republican family members;
and, of course, - all republicans
will work with equal zeal to condemn
personal family attacks against dems.
It's all good from there.-

I disagree somewhat. They *should* be off limits but Palin has made a point of parading them around to do things like be abstinence advocates, etc. Bristol is and ADULT now and she's been doing the talk show circuit--not exactly what I call maintaining a low profile. Palin wh*red her children as part of her soccer mom with a heart of gold in hooker heels (and a $150,000 wardrobe) persona. I feel bad for daughter Willho or however her name is spelled and baby Trick but Bristho is another matter. Sorry, but no sympathy from me.

Sarah Palin is too much of a lady to bring this up... but I'm not!

Letterman is so dumb he didn't realize the old saying about "People who live in glass houses should never throw stones!!
While he spoke of Palin's daughter being "knocked up", I guess he forgot that he "knocked up" his girlfriend, and then didn't legitimize his bastard son till he was five years old!! That's when he finally decided to marry the girlfriend, last March, 2009.-

Funny, Georgie Bush wanted and got his kids as off limits. Maybe if Palin, who wants to be a "big" player in national politics she ought to do some research on the topic.
Reply
Of course, Obama's kids are, well, kids. Like under 14. Hint hint, ergo CHILDREN.
Her daughter knew better and got preggers.
And they, her parents, dragged her out onto the national scene. I wonder if Gov. Palin and her hubby asked her 17 year old knocked up daughter if she wanted to be shown off not only nationally but internationally as well.
Come people. There's got to be someone better then Palin in the Republican Party.-

Letterman's comments were only "funny" in the context of a patriarchal, sexist culture. Seriously, do you hear guys being called "****ty?" Would it have been funny for Letterman to accuse a teenage male of being sexually active? Probably not.
Reply
What is universally funny is that Republicans are now pretending to have gotten over their sexism - "It's just come to our attention that an older white man has made a joke demeaning women! This must stop at once!" How insincere is that? -

Sorry to say it does not seem so when you look at the extreme right and left on this site. That is one reason we have formed the 4th party group. BOTH of these parties extreme sides believe anything is ok as long as it comes from them and it is the end of the world if it comes from the other side.

What is upsetting in some quarters is that the governor allowed Levi sleepovers. Should one believe Bristol's ex when he says that the adult Palins were aware he and Bristol were having sex? Though the governor has said Levi lied, I would have to say that Palin is "extremely naive" to believe anyone would accept that "extremely convenient" excuse! Apropos her rant with Letterman, Palin needs to take a step back and back off. She's said what she had to say and so did Letterman (the joke was inappropriate!). She seems to be using this to keep herself in the news. That is degrading to herself and her other daughter!

Her daughter Bristel will be a target for the left because she is her daughter and as chosen to speak out against teen pregnancy. Ironic how if she hadn't had a child out of wedlock she would be ridiculed for not knowing what she is talking about, and because she is Sara Palin's daughter thy say she souldn't say anything because she's pointing out why what she did may not have been the best choice.
Reply
Letterman was not condoning child rape, I think he joking about the Bristel's past permissiveness. Poor out of line thats up to the listener, poor taste yes.
