Want to regulate something? Try gas prices »
Posted By STONERS 5 months, 1 week ago in Business & FinanceIf President Obama wants to stimulate the economy by regulating something, he should start by regulating gas prices. We have a problem with most government regulation, with the exception of the financial markets, because we've seen what lack of regulation - and enforcement - has led us to. But the gasoline markets are a disaster.

Get Bush to call his buddies in Saudi. They have the oil and they set the price. We abandoned our energy policy in 1983 when Reagan allowed American oil to be traded on the futures market. It was good for economy then. But the price we are paying today is that we have no control over price or supply.

the current supply of oil in the US is maxed out. we can't store any more.
what we are seeing is the money that's just sitting around, is being used to bid up the price of commodities. if you buy it at $60 and it goes to $62, you've just made a ton. a lot of commodities are profitable at changes made in pennies. oil swings like that from hour to hour.
you can see the same thing in other materials like gold, copper, steel, pork bellies or FCOJ.
the first blog commenter is correct. the guy that wrote this article is economically brainless/helpless. he should read that economics 101 book again.
the obvious answer is that if the author doesn't like the situation, he can substitute other means of transportation. take the bus, bike, walk, etc. -

I think gas should be taxed. Maybe a dollar a gallon or so would help to get people out of their Hummers and Escalades. The revenue would be used to help finance high speed rail and other transit projects. The reduced consumption would lower the price. People would learn to combine errands and carpool. People waste too much gas right now.

Obama is not worried about stimulating the economy.

He didn't spend any money on doing it.
All he is interested in is apologizing for America to everybody else in the world, and putting his Marxist policies in place as fast as he can before we vote in a Republican majority.
After he get's everyone driving tiny death traps for cars and the consumption of gas goes down, he will raise the gas taxes so it costs 5.00 a gallon to make up for the lost revenue.
So we will still be paying big bucks for gas and driving cars that we hate.-
