"And the White House sharply denied that there was any political motivation to the travel. “Politics plays no role in implementation of the Recovery Act or highlighting its successes. Period,” said Liz Oxhorn, press secretary for the Recovery Act.

Still, the stimulus bill has the potential to be a publicity bonanza for the Obama administration for years to come — through the 2010 midterm elections and beyond.
As of mid-May, the administration had spent only 6 percent of the money Congress allotted for the program, and the White House says officials will continue to travel the country until all of the money is spent.
The events generally come in the form of roundtable discussions, upbeat speeches and sweeping announcements of billions of dollars for local communities.
Some have all the hallmarks of campaign events, featuring banks of television cameras, flag-bedecked stages and local politicians working the crowds.
Many generate the kind of admiring local media coverage that politicians crave — and largely escape the attention of national outlets."

According to MSNBC.com: "A day after Chrysler LLC said it was cutting 800 dealerships, General Motors Corp. on Friday told about 1,100 of its U.S. dealers their franchises will be terminated late next year. The GOP's Misguided Attacks On The American Recovery And Reinvestment Act

AP: "At The White House, Where Saving Jobs Always Was As Much A Priority As Creating Jobs, The Bus Industry Is A Success Story." As reported in the Associated Press, "At the White House, where saving jobs always was as much a priority as creating jobs, the bus industry is a success story. But it also shows how hard it is to account for that success, especially in an industry that keeps shedding jobs despite the stimulus." [Associated Press, 6/7/09]
Business managers can vouch for the success of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act:
Patrick Scully, chief commercial officer at Daimler Buses North America Inc.: "The stimulus has been a plus, but it's just, how do you do the math... You could say, without it things would be worse... I would guarantee you, without this stimulus bill, we would have to curtail our operation." [Associated Press, 6/7/09]
Joseph Gibson, senior vice president for sales at North American Bus Industries: "It helps preserve the jobs that we have... We don't have plans for any massive hiring. Right now we're just trying to maintain stability." [Associated Press, 6/7/09]
Mark Land, spokesman for Cummins Inc.: "It will certainly help... To the extent the stimulus is successful helping get the economy in the right direction, to the extent it helps the economy, helps our market, that's where we're going to benefit... If that allows us to bring a few people back, then it will be fair to say then the stimulus was part of the solution." [Associated Press, 6/7/09]
May Saw 175,000 Fewer Jobs Lost Than Expected, The Lowest Job Loss Numbers Since September 2008. The Washington Post reported: "With companies in no mood to hire, the unemployment rate jumped to 9.4 percent in May, the highest in more than 25 years. But the pace of layoffs eased, with employers cutting 345,000 jobs, the fewest since September." [Washington Post, 6/5/09; emphasis added]

Wow, so that's how we measure success. We're still losing jobs. Just not as many. Nice. So who decided 345,000 jobs lost was a good thing? So by this logic if we only have 15% unemployment in 2010 then it's a good thing. Because it's less then 20%. Then in 2011 with 20% unemployment that will be a good thing since it's less then expected. With goals like this everyone can be a success.

not at all, but you do have to look deeper.

One company received stimulus - a boost in how much credit they could give people to by their product.
So there is basically more debt.
Is this is what is happening across the board?? I don't know, but would like to find out.
