Republican Sen. John Ensign of Nevada is admitting he had an extramarital affair with a member of his campaign staff.

Since his election to the Senate in 2000, Ensign has been a leading conservative voice who demanded the resignation of former Idaho Sen. Larry Craig in September 2007. Ensign called Craig a "disgrace". Ensign has also been an ardent opponent of gay marriage, saying that blocking gay unions "was necessary to protect the institution of marriage".

whenever a story like this pops up, I tend to think it doesn't matter if the person in question had an affair - as it pertains to that person being able to do their job competently. I mean, I don't care if my tax accountant is having an affair, as long as he gets my taxes done right and I get a refund.

but in this case, when I hear that Ensign was a big supporter for an amendment to the Constitution that would have defined marriage as a union between only a man and a woman, I just have to think this guy is a giant, lying, hypocritical turd of a human.

if anyone is interested in protecting the sanctity of marriage, its guys like Ensign who are the real danger, since they are willing to say outwardly that marraige is defined as this and only this, then turns around privately and sh*ts all over the institution he's trying to control and define.

    what an asssshole.

"I deeply regret and am very sorry for my actions."

Translation: I deeply regret getting caught.

He's qualified to be a Democratic president...if he were gay, he could work in Barney Frank's bordello - or at least, use Barney's services...

      He'll catch hell because he's a Republican - Democrats get praised and/or re-elected...

One of these days I would LOVE to see the wife of the jerk just
kick the crap out of them on live news...I think they go too far with this "forgive me, I got caught"/Clinton excuse...we still want to know what the meaning of 'is' is...

I just saw something on TV this evening where they compared the characteristics of Charlie Manson to those of the average politician. Very close comparison.
