This according to a new article by veteran investigative journalist Seymour Hersh in the New Yorker magazine.
The operations were set out in a highly classified Presidential Finding signed by Bush which, by law, must be made known to Democratic and Republican House and Senate leaders and ranking members of the intelligence committees. The plan allowed up to $400 million in covert spending for activities ranging from supporting dissident groups to spying on Iran’s nuclear program.

Last year, the US dropped 75 million dollars on efforts to "democratize" Iraq. Some money went into "Voice of America" type radio propaganda, but much of it went to parties within Iran, and the US won't disclose their identities.

How much of the 75 million do you suppose went into creating an astroturf movement for Moussavi?
And the next question - Do you suppose the real aim is to put Moussavi into office or just to destabilize Iran enough that we can move in to "restore order?" I am not persuaded that the full-on propaganda blitz we have been getting in the US would be necessary to sell us Moussavi. I suspect we are being sold something bigger and much darker. -

Hey, if these scret operations keep Iran and Israel from being nuked so a little, ancient, 12 year old brat can come up out of a well it disappeared down and then open a can of "holy" Shi'ite whup ass on Christians and Jews, I say, may those operations in Iran be successful.
