Comments for Change Takes Time; The Economy Cannot Be Fixed in Six Months »
Posted By ChangeToday 5 months, 2 weeks ago in NewsOver the last few weeks, all we have heard is how bad the numbers are getting. Well, who was the president that caused all the numbers? It is not like the first few months in office allowed President Obama to increase the unemployment rate. Just because some of the numbers are getting worse does not mean that it is not going to get better. The old saying is “ it has to get worse before it gets better.” President Obama is doing everything he can, working day and night, to get this country back to where it was before it was turned into a disaster.

That is the liberal mantra. All companies are just greedy. Such a lame brain concept. Ignore reality and just live in the illusion that you people create. Most people operate out of a concept of doing a good job and helping others. The best CEO's challenge their employees to do the best they can for the benefit of all. Create a better product for their customers and make sure the customer is happy with their product and services. Competition with others makes sure they can't charge too much. The object of any company is to make a decent profit for the owners or stockholders. Most of the stock in in 401Ks. But you turn this into greed. Very sad.

When gas prices started going up in the 70s what did the Big 4 do? They hit Toyotas and Nissans with sledge hammers. Instead of making more fuel efficient cars they kept building larger and larger. The public got a huge wake up call last year with $5/gal. Even the Big 3's small cars had terrible emission ratings and low mpg....could that be because of greed or just my damn liberal mantra getting in the way of things again?

"buying a Geo. (made by chevy/toyota)"....and crap !! So what you are saying is that if the public buys it then feed the greed with an excuse instead of being responsible...?? Yep,right along with big tobacco, alcohol, and the corner crack dealer....Hey iof the public wants it..hell with the country, jobs, environment, and any social responsibility and then wonder why they are losing..

jaern, i think you're right. But in times past, the auto industry had high enough sales for the CEO's and such to be able to skim the profits without it really affecting anything/.. Not so anymore, every dime is missed but they keep taking millions for themselves. Then, rather than give back to keep the industry going, they just let it sink! Greed is the only word that describes it, but i wish there was a harsher one to for them.

I know many small business owners here. Those that have lasted are the ones that when times are bad they put THEIR money back into the business, they put off the new car or the vacation and they get in and do more of the work themselves...Those that are driving the new car every year are the ones that we see folding after the first five years..

Wasnm't it the repugs that said that what happens on main street is what runs the country ?...I may be wrong about that, but the big corporations would be a lot better off if they actually paid attention to main street..

I'm afraid TheRealizer may be right. When Obama was asked by a woman during one of the 'townhall' events when some of the jobs were coming back he said "They aren't coming back." He said we didn't want them back, that they were low wage jobs that wouldn't support a family. He is going to create high paying jobs that can not be out-sourced.
Reply
Millions of families would love to have those jobs back, I'm sure!

The jobs left this country because the companies were given tax breaks?
You've got it backwards - companies leave the U.S. because we have the second highest corporate tax rate in the world.
Tax breaks for companies here in the U.S. KEEP business here.-

Anyone can read between the lines are sense the hatred you have for our Government.
Why?
Didn't the Government train you for your career?
Didn't the Government take care of your paycheck for decades?
In fact,
Didn't the Government take care of your DAD'S paycheck for decades?
So ... in retrospect ... you've effectively relied on the Socialist Expression of Government .... but NOW that you are in the private sector ... you don't think The United States of America DESERVES revenue from Corporations that benefit from taxes?
I would really like to understand how you rationalize your life story ... and how you square it with your hatred for America.
BTW ... most companies in America pay FAR .... FAR less than what their tax bracket would indicate.
As a business owner myself - I'm aware of numerous legal methods to reduce my company's tax burden - should I choose to do so.
And in fact, many companies do pay NO taxes.
I tell you what - since you are promoting such DIS-information ... I will state the companies that pay NO corporate taxes for 2001 - 2002.
Check it out below.

Have you been asleep for the last 8 years? The Republickin' tax breaks were in many cases designed to give tax breaks to companies who built factories overseas, This was so the companies would show higher profits, and in turn make the stocks go up which would look good for those in charge. (republickins')

There is the liberal mind set. The problem is the taxes on businesses that make to more profitable to have offshore people do the work. Raise them more and they will go places where the taxes are much lower. Ireland is booming because they have a top tax rate of 12.5% on businesses. Many are going there to take advantage of that. Raise our taxes here and the Irish will thank us.

Let me explain something in very simple and clear terms to everyone here.
Reply
NO president will bring us out of this finacial disaster without a nation that produces. There are only few ways to get things back on track. 1. NAFTA must be renegotiated imediately, with equal terms for equal trade.2. Unions must be brought to the table to bring bennifits and wages in line with that of other western countries. (NO we will not lower ourselves to the work standards of 3rd world countries). 3. Immigration laws must be enforced to the fullest. 4. A complete overhaul of our education system. A country that is not in the top 5 for education will NOT be able to compete with other western countries.6. We must eliminate our dependency on foriegn oil. I would not look toward wind mills filling up the job market here because Europe is already years ahead of us with the tech..
At the same time there MUST be regulation over the FED and NOT as currently being planned , more power to the feds. Americans must learn to live within their means and a flat tax must be put into place.

It isn't fair to blame one or the other. Both parties are guilty. They both take the kickbacks from the lobbyists. In fact once they're in office they're all pretty much the same. It was a Dem that signed the NAFTA Agreement which sucked out millions of jobs and made the corporations richer. Bush...well we all know how bad he was but never the less...what did the Dems do to stop him ?
Reply
The important issue is what is Obama doing ? He isn't moving to get out of Iraq the way that he promised. He bailed out the rich and so far hasn't done much to give relief to the middle class ( what's left of it ). He's dragging his feet on reforming health care and I have yet to see any jobs in my area that his stimulus plan was supposed to create. It's pretty obvious where his priorities are and they are not with the working class. Six months is not a long time I realize but it was enough time to push through what he wanted and the rest will have to wait.
In the meantime we will get by without national health care. We will be in the middle east forever. Our jobs will never come back. We can suck wind once our unemployment benefits run out. The taxes will be going up again. He's already trying to tax our health care premiums and he's already raised the cigarett tax. He found the time to do that. So far...I don't see any signs that he's going to be any different from the others except that he's always on the TV . -

I have to agree with you Albmore. It's time for real change in Washington. The Dems and the Republicans are all self serving scumbags. Both parties voted us into Iraq, allowed our jobs to be outsourced, allowed our freedoms under the constitution to be taken away, keep funding more money into the war, and the list could go on and on. Congress is a bunch of puppets that work for their own gains and collect hefty pays from the people that they are screwing over. They ALL have played a part in the mess the US is in today. I'm so fed up at this point that I don't even want to get involved in another election. It's almost a charade because once they get in...they all end up the same.

Jebobo What is the matter Did you sleep, or were you stoned for the last eight years.Or maybe you got one of those illegal sub-prime loans the democrats were flooding the market with.Maybe you can't get people to make part of your payments,People are like.Obama will fix that soon, can't have foreclosures on homes no matter what kinda crooked deals took place.Anyway the next three years are going to be a trial run for socialism,we'll see if enough people are willing sell their soul for a loaf of bread

Hello, the Democrats didn't flood the market with sub prime loans. Most of the loans that are in default were written while the Republicans had total control. At this time they could have gotten anything done they wanted about the economy, emigration, or anything at all. They had all the power. They did nothing.

amazing how this mess really kicked in during the time the cons had control of the house, senate and presidency, yet people like lloydm65 still have the gaul to say it was the dems who did it.

fact is, a lot of this mess can be traced back to one guy, the guy who for years worked to remove the regulatory protections we had installed after the great depression: Phil Gramm, Republican. -

This economy is not going to be fixed in any short period of time. This mess took a while to make and it will take a while to sort itself out. It can't be fixed by the government alone. People have to change their attitudes and learn to live within their means. We need to invest in new products that are made here. We must reduce our dependence on oil. It's a tall order and we will need to come together to do it. It's time to stop the bickering and move forward.

If we were just to concentrate all of our efforts on the infrastructure...Bridges,roads,damns,schools,utili... and tell the contractors that everything that can be made here must be bought from here. Our Steel mills would start producing again, our mining would increase, heavy equipment manufacturing would increase and every associated business in this country would boom..housing,food,clothing,..everything, and we would be rebuilding a new manufacturing base in the process which would be able to start exporting goods again instead of the deficit in trade we see...That is what i see in Obamas plan ...But the key is that these things have to be produced here !! Not imported from China,India,or any other country...period !!
Reply
Unemployment would drop to low single digits.Combine that with a health care system that takes insurance company s out of the decision making and makes it affordable to everyone, immigration laws that work, the securing of our borders and the fining of company's that hire illegals...Who knows...? If we all got on board and started thinking of America and the "legal" citizens that have made us great in the past, more than we do China or Pakistan and cheap labor, we can damn sure make us great again in the future.

Obama and his fanboyz keep repeating the mantra that everything is Bush's fault. Obama fought tooth and nail to take on these problems and so far things are getting worse. Not only because Obama's socialist reactions are scaring private investors but also because of his plans to drive the economy deeper into the ditch with his massive increase of the federal deficit and national debt.

Of course the economy can't be fixed in 6 months. What that simpleton Obama did was to spend all those trillions for nothing! The economy would have fixed itself given time, and we wouldn't have all this debt that could and will bring on another depression in a few years.
