These results are contradicted by two recently published large-scale, long-term studies that compared lowered carbohydrate diets with other diets. Both studies showed that for most people, a modest reduction in carbohyrate intake will have little effect on weight loss. Both Studies are in the New England Journal of Medicine - one in 2008 and one in February 2009.

A low carbohydrate diet will, however, result in health benefits other than weight loss. Notably, a low carbohydrate diet will result in a much better lipid profile and lowered risk of heart disease. A low carbohydrate diet will result in lowered LDL-cholesterol; increased HDL-Cholesterol and lowered triglycerides.
