I would say that the most dangerous cult in America is the Modern Christian Conservative Movement.

This movement, or rather ... this anti-Christian Cult ... resides mostly in Tennessee, NW Florida, Mississippi, Alabama, Kansas, Texas, and Oklahoma.

This cult preaches a hatred towards America.

Part of their services include bringing out images of Jesus Christ and collectively spitting on the image.

I'm not completely sure if ALL churches do this ... and I wouldn't want to indict ALL churches for this horrendous practice.

Suffice to say that many forgo the actual spitting on the image of Christ ... to preaching a religious creed that is DIAMETRICALLY OPPOSED to the teachings of Jesus Christ.

For instance - these people CLAIM to be Christian ... which is quite laughable ... and yet ... they seek to foment a hatred for our system of Government ... democracy.

They seek to promote all manner of un-Godly practices ... such as Torture.

These Christian Conservatives ... as they call themselves ... drag their children through the muck and dreck of the most vile teachings.

If you believe in God - and Jesus Christ the Saviour ... I urge you to denounce this story submission by Inactive ... given that he is a traitor not only to the values of America ... but to the Spirit of Jesus Christ.

    Inactive ... our American Taliban.

        Excuse me?

        I AM a Christian.

It's the American Taliban I have issue with ... and their hatred for our President ... their lies ... and their desire to turn our nation into a Sharia-type society.

I also dislike Propeller member inactive's hatred for Universalist Unitarians.

Interesting that you didn't take issue with Propeller member inactive's spurious comments about them . . . for . . . as you know . . . Unitarians are CHRISTIANS.
        .
Whereas ... Christian Conservatives ARE NOT ...given that they support Torture, Welfare for the Wealthy, Denying Children Health Care benefits, Arbitrary War, Lying to start arbitrary wars ... and every other Modern Republican perversion.

Technically Unitarians are not Christian. Having been raised as a Unitarian we believed that Christ was a prophet and not the son of God more than any of us. The Unitarians as I remember also don't believe in the Trinity. We were taught Christs teachings in Sunday school as well as respect for all other belief systems. I remember spending many Sundays learning about other religions and also visiting and sharing services in other church denominations. We were taught to be tolerant of all people. I realize that is probably pretty radical for Evangelical Christians who are taught to hate those with differing beliefs. Even though I am an Atheist I do still try and remember the things that I was taught in Sunday school all those years ago.

            Yes, technically you are correct.

It is my personal contention that anyone who embraces the teachings, the values, the world view of Jesus Christ ... is ... essentially a Christian.

Following the tenets of Jesus Christ makes one a Christian.

That is also how I can identify inactive as being ANTI-Christian.

Well we're Christians really, but we're also heretics. Or as the bumper sticker says: "Subvert the dominant paradigm."

Amen Newenglandander. My Agnostic parents got married in a Unitarian Temple. I am a hardcore atheist though but sometimes I see what the local Unitarians are doing and I might show up one day but they are what I wish other religions were like. If I want spiritual help they will give it to me and not judge me. They sponsor good things like film screenings and good stuff.

What are you talking about--"spitting on the image of Christ"? No one does that in the church that I attend. I never heard of this happening in any church.

Exactly what sort of Christ do you believe in? You sound as though you make the same mistake so many liberal nominal Christians make: to assume that Christ was the Original Socialist Rebel Leader.

You've made another mistake, by the way: our system of government is not supposed to be a democracy at all, but a republic. The two are very different.

What do you mean by torture? Whom did you hear from, who authoritatively said that anyone had any of his limbs cut off?

And what sort of teachings do you object to? Abstinence from sexual intercourse until one is married, and then fidelity to one's spouse?

Oh, I get it: as Alan Jay Lerner famously said, your idea of "vile teachings" are the Seven Deadly Virtues--except for Charity, which you pervert to stand for confiscation of private wealth.

            Temlakos, you're only half-right

We're a Democratic-Republic that takes a few hits from the Constitutional Republic playbook. (if even that, someone of ill repute told me that I always was taught it was a straight Dem-Repub that just happened to have a Constitution) It's essentially US History 101

I believe in the Jesus that said:
Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

The Modern Christian in the churches I describe renounce peace making efforts as "Appeasement" ... and ridicule those who talk to those they consider our enemies - for instance ... Christian Conservatives ridicule President Obama for saying he will talk to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad of Iran.

I believe in the Jesus that said:
Blessed are they that hunger and thirst after justice: for they shall have their fill.

The Modern Christian in the churches I describe renounce justice in favor of an aggressive Neo-Conservative Ideology of retribution .... .... .... and these issues supported by those who call themselves Christian Conservatives ... ... ... severe punitive measures ... including Torture ... extended prison terms for minor crimes ... criminalizing seniors for trying to get cheaper meds from Canada ... and of course ... capital punishment.

I believe in the Jesus that said:
As you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' Heal the sick, cleanse the lepers, raise the dead, cast out devils. Freely you have received. Freely give.

The Modern Christians in the churches I describe renounce the message of Jesus ... calling these words ... SOCIALISM. Christian Conservatives see the 45 Million Americans without Health Insurance ... losing their homes to medical bills ... and when a Health Care Plan becomes a possible solution ... they scream in unison ... that's Socialized Medicine ... and fight against it.

That is no different than spitting on the image of Jesus Christ.

Oh yeah ... I believe in the Jesus that said:
I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.

The Modern Christian in the churches I describe preach what's known as a "Health/Wealth" interpretation ... in which ... the more money you have ... the clearer the sign that you are 'blessed by God'. Perhaps you know of Joel Osteen ... he's fantastically popular among these Christian Conservatives for promoting this message.

In addition ... Christian Conservatives are wildly supportive of what's known to be the central tenet of the Neo-Conservative movement ... "Trickle-Down Economics".

This is where ... if you are wealthy ... you are given fantastic tax breaks ... tax breaks not afforded to the middle classes.

The idea is that ... if you give the rich ever more money ... they will deign to spend more ... and some of that money will 'trickle down' to the masses.

As a central tenet of the Neo-Conservative movement ... the Modern Republican philosophy ... this economic theory has not only been soundly disproven ..... but it it so clearly Morally Vacant and bass-ackwards ... that no rational person believes in it.

The only people who continue to believe this theory are some rich people (not all) . . . and the Christian Conservatives in the churches I describe .... who support this notion because they acknowledge it as a way to strangle the Federal Government for revenue.

Why do they want to starve the Federal Government for revenue??

Because they consider the Federal Government to be a SECULAR institution ... and therefore ... in conflict with their own values ... which ... as I have pointed out on occasion ... are quite Morally Vacant.

Gobby, EVERYTHING you are talking about here is\are the far fringes of conservative Christianity and are so far removed from the vast majority that we too consider them to not be true Christians. They are some of the folk spoken of in Matthew 7:23

This is such a problem with us today, the "unchurched" American knows so very little of what the Bible teaches that they haven't a clue to what genuine Christians believe & live. Then they hear stuff like this and think it is representative of the Christian Church as a whole and no wonder there is such a disconnect such hostility.

While I admit that when I comment - it comes off as 'painting with too broad a brush'

                      ... ... ... but never-the-less ... ... ...

those that I comment on as examples of Modern Christian Conservatives ... ... ... have become the defacto spokespeople of Christian Conservatism by the sheer fact that they are NOT denounced by those you call ... the vast majority.
                      .
Without the denunciations ... one can only conclude that these 'fringe-Christian Conservatives' ... as you put it ... speak for ALL Christian Conservatives.

Maybe Y'ALL don't give them the time of day ... but they resonate deeply with MILLIONS of Christian Conservatives.

Think about it ... Joel Osteen is one of the most popular of all Tel-Evangelists ... and the essence of his "Christianity" is the "Feel Good About Greed" message of the "Health-Wealth" movement in Christianity.

                          .

When Modern Christian Conservatives begin to reflect in their POLITICAL world view ... what Jesus reflected in His SPIRITUAL world view ... THEN ... and ONLY then ... will Mainstream America think of Christian Conservatives as anything else than a Hardline, Bigoted Political PAC.

I guess we have always thought that promoting the Gospel and the Kingdom of infinitely more value AND that no one paid much attention to them anyways. Perhaps this is a moment of opportunity. The IFCA annual conference is taking place this week a short ways from here, plus their headquarters is here in GR, about 3 miles from my home & I personally know most of the staff. I will address this subject with them and let you know how they reply.

Truely, thank you for speaking to me about this.
