Many Americans do not care whether the men and women defending them are straight or gay. Many soldiers and sailors care only that they can count on their buddies to have their back in combat. Many haters fan the flames of disparity by claiming that DADT is appropriate. Plenty of our European allies have long since dropped their objections to having gay troops serving honestly and openly. We need to accept that being gay should not be a preclusion to military service. It is not a detriment to morale nor to unit cohesion. One need only look back to Truman's integration policies to understand that all qualified American men and women who answer the call to duty should be accepted.
