Well, yes. On the other hand, one must always consider the source when weighing news reports.

Political bias, if any.
Thralldom to commercial imperatives.
And one must go to various sources, weighing one against the next.
In other words, one must be a wise consumer.-

From the article:

"If you look at the pitiful excuse of "reporting"--commentary masquerading as news, the inability to do basic research and gross lack of interviewing skills, 'tis a gross wonder that the little that remains of investigative journalism in MSM actually manages to survive.
When gladiatorial sport, AKA trailer trash and ghetto garbage sensationalism masquerades as news, we lose real news outlets----and,
real investigations are expensivse anyhow; "news" is a revenue losing proposition, so why not wallow in "reality shows" AKA broadcast garbage, and soothe the nation into a coma; that way, if the social engineers declare WWIII, we'll be too fried to notice."-

the bottom line is not ideology but revenue. mainstream media are businesses. the "news" is just a vehicle to pull eyeballs to push product. the "news" they "sell" are what draws revenue. revenue is derived from the advertising that is trying to push the product onto those eyeballs. the more eyeballs the better the chance of more bucks.

take a look around, the exact same thing is happening right now on this webpage. (there's no big bucks here but then there's no big outlay. we do all the work and we do it for free).
but i digress.... advertisers don't want to lose eyeballs with the "wrong" kind of news. so advertisers hold editorial influence through the power of their advertising dollar. this is because advertisers target a market.
if their research and focus groups determines that their market is not open to particular points of view, even if that includes the truth, then they will put their advertising dollars somewhere else that does.
when the choice is "patriotism, nationalism, xenophobia" vs "truth, honesty, and justice," then truth, honesty and justice will always lose. such is the nature and level of our cultural indoctrination.
advertisers don't care about the truth when you're selling to the indoctrinated if there's no money in it. even less so if it will lose business. going against the "patriotic" grain will do that. going "patriotic" maintains and continues the indoctrination, not to mention turning a tidy profit. the system is self-perpetuating.
so they, like the mainstream media themselves, will renounce the truth and their own integrity for the sake of profits. if it means raising the flag and supporting the troops while a few million arabs are killed or have their lives completely f*cked up then so be it
basically, mainstream media doesn't want to p*ss anyone off for fear of losing advertisers, sponsors and their government greased rails. nothing brings out the buttkissing better than the big bucks
mainstream media is the ultimate in sychophancy. it goes whichever way the wind blows. it has no conscience and no integrity, it has only greed. and this is why it is worthless

while i agree that there are significant problems in all four areas cited, i still think mainstream media has value.

i agree with poulenc, channel hop and review the coverage of a story on several channels. if you're really concerned you can always back up your research on-line or in newspapers and weekly news magazines.
