Democrats supported slavery then, just as they support welfare now, to retain and gain power on the backs of blacks while keeping African-Americans on the plantation. More conservatives need to point this fact out, and to point it out often.

great idea. while we're considering real solutions to real problems how bout these; let democrats pay for any non citizen or person making more than 75 k a year who doesn't have healthcare. also, let them adopt illegal aliens and make them part of the "family". they want their vote, let them have their expense too.

If you didn't notice, almost every Democrat voted for the Iraq war. A Democrat is going to continue that war after promising to start pulling us out as soon as he was elected. How's that going? He has also ramped us Afghanistan, killing thousands of innocent civilians in the process. And most likely will end up starting wars with Korea and Iran as we move into the near future. Dang War mongering Democrat Hypocrites.

Of course this leaves out why the republicans win the south. Later the dems supported equal rights and the racist south became republican. This is like comparing the NFL Raiders under genius Madden to what senile Al Davis is doing now. Completely different teams and players. There just aren't any Abe Lincoln republicans anymore. They signed on to white southern angry racist man under Reagan and now are imperialists not conservatives. Perhaps if you started acting like you did back then you might get back in power. Should we reintroduce the Whig party? It is about as relevant as this post.

I have traveled too and I know there is racism everywhere. What does differ is how it plays in public. I went to college in Peoria. Nearby is a town called Pekin. I have heard from various people that they had the last active Klan north of the mason-dixon line and that black people know better than to be on the streets at night. But when they were telling me this their tone was more of pride than shame. That is the problem. When racism becomes a virtue instead of a shame then the public as a whole must bear the blame.

This line, insinuating that no Republican ever has been a member of the KKK is the most blatant, divise inducing lie I have seen in a long time, coming from someone that apparently has the ears of many.
The whole issue of an apology is a moral necessity, but reparations? To whom do we make this? To the African Americans, or to the people in Africa, who were deprived of their loved ones? Are we then going to make reparations to the Native Americans aswell? Essentially our forefathers stole their land and put them in what for them were the equivalent of todays concentration camps. Do the Brits and French also help with this, as they too had a hand in it?
As to whether this is the responsability of democrats or republicans, please, This is the United States of America, and not the Republican or Democratic States of America. We seem to be going down a very dangerous path here, and have for some time, where it seems every facet of social and political life is becoming categorized as eigther a republican or democratic endeveour. We need to set our own house in order, once and for all settle our divergent opinions, which by the way made the US great, rather than this continual bickering of I'm right and you're wrong, na na na....... No one party is right all of the time, and no party is wrong all of the time. If we can't, over the long run, everyone will loose. Opportunity, jobs and prosperity will find alternate places to continue flourishing, and leave us in the dust.-

What about the Islamic countries? If you read the history the largest portion African slaves went to that region and the Arabs were the one's kidnapping the Africans to sell to other countries. We abolished slavery 150 years ago, they still are active in slavery.

Now as far as paying reparations, how do you figure out who to pay? Do you pay by color of skin alone? Do you research to see if they actually had family members that were slaves? What if they came here after the civil war and the emancipation proclamation? do they have a claim on the money?
Would I get money too since I had slaves in my family though I look like a Caucasian? -

What amazes me is your denial that there isn't a sizable faction of racists in the Democrat party.
Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton, Rev Wright (ever notice that most Revs are scoundrels?) Joe Biden, Sheets Byrd in leadership roles. Heck, even Obama himself has said some things that border on racism/bigotry. The you add the millions of poor white racists that vote for the party to ensure their monthly checks will keep on keeping on.
