The number who would be willing to pay higher taxes to fund Obamacare (57%) is lower than in 1993. Of those willing to pay higher taxes, only 43% would be willing to pay as much as $500 a year more in taxes. That means fewer than 25% of a sample largely skewed towards liberals are willing to pay an amount far less than what Obamacare may actually require.-

"In this poll, the sample identified as 27% liberal, 37% moderate, and 29% conservative. In contrast, last week’s Gallup Poll showed Americans identify as 21% liberal, 35% moderate, and 40% conservative."
The NYT poll did NOT segment by liberal, moderate, and conservative, they used people identifying as Democrat, Independent, and Republican. If you look at the Gallup poll, many Democrats identify as conservative, so the numbers are actually quite close.
So Hot Air is lying about their 'analysis'. Go figure.

Once again we see the media covering for Il Duce Obama and his Grand Council of Fascists. What a scam!!! Then again, he's the President of the United States and this is the best he can do? What kind of advisers did that dork hire? All unemployable college lackeys? Eggheads who "know" everything. So far it's working really well... Yep, looks like we're finished as a nation.
Had John "fundamentals of the economy are sound" McCain taken the reigns with the most belligerent economic pirate in recent history, Phil Graham in control the downward spiral would have continued en masse.

Cost of U.S. Crisis Action Grows, Along With Debt
The 2009 budget deficit could be close to $2 trillion, or 12.5 percent of gross domestic product, more than twice the record of 6 percent set in 1983, according to David Greenlaw, Morgan Stanley's chief economist.
Or this one: US News and World Report
Obama's $2 Trillion Dollar Budget Deficit
Yesterday’s Congressional Budget Office (CBO) release of the updated FY ’09 budget numbers showed a $1.2 trillion deficit for the fiscal year (8.5% of GDP). However, a closer examination of the report demonstrates these numbers are dramatically underestimated due to the scoring of TARP expenditures and obviously the fact that the stimulus was left out of the scoring (CBO is creating a budget baseline based on current law).Based on our analysis, the deficit is actually $2.2 trillion for the fiscal year or nearly 100 percent higher than is being reported. In fact, the deficit will finish the fiscal year at an astonishing 15.5 percent of GDP! Federal spending will rise to 32 percent of GDP.
Or this one: Government Executive.com
Deficit will near $2 trillion in 2009, federal budget expert predicts
A former staff member of the House and Senate Budget committees and a longtime observer of the federal budget process on Thursday said the 2008 record budget deficit of $455 billion likely will quadruple in 2009.
"These are unprecedented numbers in nominal terms. In political terms, it's rather astounding," said Stan Collender, during a briefing at the nonpartisan Center for Strategic and Budgetary Assessments. Collender is a managing director for Qorvis Communications and maintains a blog at www.capitalgainsandgames.com.
Or even NPR:
On Friday, the Congressional Budget Office will project that the federal deficit will reach $2 trillion — a higher figure than President Obama predicted.

Oh my: Health care, amnesty, climate change bills all suddenly in trouble
Imagine what the conservative grassroots reaction would be like if the GOP held the White House, both houses of Congress, and a filibuster-proof majority in the Senate and still couldn’t get its core domestic programs passed. You think you hate RINOs? Wait and see how the nutroots respond to Blue Dog Democrats if they end up scuttling universal health care when all the numbers are in the left’s favor. Especially when Drudge has an item up about talks on climate change between Democrats having blown up last night and Gibbs is telling the White House press corps that the votes still aren’t there on amnesty, notwithstanding the fact that the Democrats picked up seats last year in both chambers and The One promising a Hispanic group today that it’s coming.
Now that Nancys power is starting to erode she can no longer run rough shod over the Blue Dogs......these guys are not going to commit political suicide and vote for this with the 2010 elections just around the corner.......-

But you know, when it is pointed out that illegal immigrants are taking big bites out of health care expenditures, the left screams that you can't deny them care while they are here illegally, that would be inhumane. They also tout how wonderful Canada's health care system is, so I suggest we all head to Canada when we need medical attention. They wouldn't deny us health care would they? That would be inhumane. You may have missed the articles about medical bankruptcies in the US... I believe 60% of personal bankruptcies are medical. There should be no one left uninsured and it should be a single payer system. Yes we have a good health care system n Canada... not perfect but better than the US system.

Getting back to the issue of medical bankruptcy... an issue unheard of in Canada.... I guess you can go from physically ill to mentally ill when the bills roll in.
"Bankruptcy is just the tip of the iceberg: 29 million Americans are in medical debt," says Jennifer Edwards of the Commonwealth Fund, a private foundation that supports research on health and social issues.
A recent Commonwealth study defined those in medical debt as paying bills to health care providers or having large credit card debt or loans against their homes related to medical costs.
Of those, 70% were insured when they got the health care that put them in debt, and nearly half had used up all or most of their savings,"

If this is true Obama is not taking it far enough. I cannot see anyone approving a system that discriminates base on age. Under our system, medical bankruptcy does not exist. As well there should be no charges for hospital care. We do have to provide for meds and glasses through company sponsored insurance or if you are unable to pay , then a person may apply for assistance.

"You may have missed the articles about medical bankruptcies in the US... I believe 60% of personal bankruptcies are medical."
Greenmac, down here we learned (the hard way) not to give much credence to politicians words.
Specifically the 60% of personal bankruptcies are medical is complete bunk, bull.
Put this in your browser and read the ABC report on this claim
Medical Bankruptcies: A Data-Check + ABC
The article is long and you have to pay attention, the actual number based on highly questionable logic,
“eight-tenths of one percent of Americans lived in families that filed for bankruptcy as a result of medical costs. That rings a little less loudly than “one every 30 seconds.””
Or about 17% not 60%
Among some of the questionable logic includes
“the Harvard researchers chose to add in any bankruptcy filers who had at least $1,000 in unreimbursed medical expenses in the previous two years”
In other words if the family declared bankruptcy and had $1,000 in medical bills, that bankruptcy was counted as medical REGARDLESS of any other factors.
Given deductibles and copays, that’s a heck of a lot of people.
“Moreover, Harvard’s definition of “medical” expenses includes situations that aren’t necessarily medical in common parlance, e.g., a gambling problem, or the death of a family member. If your main wage-earning spouse gets hit by a bus and dies, and you have to file, that’s included as a “medical bankruptcy.””
This would also include Alcohol, drugs addiction in general. Hey! We can now include cigarettes as well!
So if someone in America files for bankruptcy AND that person smokes well there ya go it’s a bankruptcy due to “medical reason”
Now are the folks up in Canada stupid enough to count cigarettes as a “medical reason”
For bankruptcy?
No? didn’t think so-

How the Poll Was Conducted
Published: June 17, 2009
The latest New York Times/CBS News poll is based on telephone interviews conducted June 12 through June 16 with 895 adults throughout the United States.
The sample of land-line telephone exchanges called was randomly selected by a computer from a complete list of more than 69,000 active residential exchanges across the country. The exchanges were chosen so as to ensure that each region of the country was represented in proportion to its population.
Within each exchange, random digits were added to form a complete telephone number, thus permitting access to listed and unlisted numbers alike. Within each household, one adult was designated by a random procedure to be the respondent for the survey.
To increase coverage, this land-line sample was supplemented by respondents reached through random dialing of cellphone numbers. The two samples were then combined.
The combined results have been weighted to adjust for variation in the sample relating to geographic region, sex, race, marital status, age and education. In addition, the land-line respondents were weighted to take account of household size and number of telephone lines into the residence, while the cellphone respondents were weighted according to whether they were reachable only by cellphone or also by land line.
In theory, in 19 cases out of 20, overall results based on such samples will differ by no more than three percentage points in either direction from what would have been obtained by seeking to interview all American adults. For smaller subgroups, the margin of sampling error is larger. Shifts in results between polls over time also have a larger sampling error. -

In addition to sampling error, the practical difficulties of conducting any survey of public opinion may introduce other sources of error into the poll.
Variation in the wording and order of questions, for example, may lead to somewhat different results.-

I've yet to hear about anyone going to Canada for medical treatment but I hear and read stories everyday about Canadians coming to the US for treatment. I can't figure out why since all the Canadians on Propeller continue to sing the praises of socialized medicine. Maybe the reason for this is they are really miserable with it and want the folks in the US to share in their misery.
You know it's strange but we don't get any of the same crap from the Brits, they have learned the hard way that socialized medicine is real crap.-

See my response to Woolfie. I don't believe there is a stampede to the border. When this debate comes up there are always those who bring up this item. It is a feeble attempt at disqualifying the Canadian system. What bugs me is the opposition to change the US system which doesn't work for everyone. If the system does not change, the future will become bleaker for health care down the road. My take on most of the opposition is the fact that Obama is leading the charge and therefore political beliefs are getting in the way of logic.

Whatever scheme is adopted, whether one adopted by the Democrats or by the Republicans, government -run, -paid, -regulated, etc., will have one group of citizens paying into a system from which others benefit.

We haven't had a free market in health care for a long time, going back to the beginning of the 20th century when the government declared human beings, after thousands of years, could no longer be trusted to medicate themselves and would now be required to pay a government-licensed "doctor" for permission slips to buy the medication they need.
The latest proposal is for a government-run system whereby we pay into health care but someone else decides IF and WHEN and WHERE we receive it. "Let's see, Mr. Jones, you've paid for medical care all your life and now that you're 70 years old and need an expensive operation and treatment, we must say no, you'll just have to die because you're too old. In other words, there are many other people who the government has decided are worthier to receive the fruits of your lifelong labors than yourself," said the government bureaucrat.
See Ron Paul's video on health care (it's less than 8 minutes long):

Reply
The hospitals see the insurance companies as revenue, padding the bills. Insurance companies try to pay as little as possible and deny as much as they can to their customers. This expensive, over-regulated, system can be traced to the government's interference in medical care. The more government "helps," the worse things get. That's why I want a truly free market system. It has increased quality and quantity while lowering costs in every economic sector that the government isn't involved.
Consider medical care in foreign countries such as Bangkok, Thailand and Singapore, even Guadalajara, Mexico. The care in their better hospitals gets good reviews and costs a fraction of what you'd pay in the U.S.

Today, you have people in England pulling out their decayed and painful teeth with pliers. What happened? Socialized medicine happened.
Socialism works until it runs out of other people's money.
I have no right to have government thugs steal from my neighbors to pay for my misfortune or laziness or ignorance to save for my medical care. And after saving for years to provide for my medical care, no one has a right to steal from me to give it to others.
If you want to help others, do it with your money, not mine. I will help those I think deserve it with my money; that decision isn't yours. -
