Only 8% of Latinos View Republican Party Favorably »
Posted By metavirus 5 months ago in Political NewsNew poll numbers really seem to bear out the fears of some Republicans: The GOP’s quasi-opposition to Sotomayor seems to be hurting the party among Latinos in a big way.
The latest numbers from the nonpartisan Research 2000 find that only *eight percent* of Latinos view the party favorably, while an astonishing 86 percent view it unfavorably.

For many years the Republicans embraced the radical right, racist Democrats and anti-blacks because they were of the right color. With those extremes plus evangelical Christians, pro big business, white middle class bigots, and the rich; the Republican party enjoyed a majority of the electorate. But the population and it's make up is changing, shifting from majority white to majority color. Unless the Republicans jettison the radical right extremists, their party will never be inclusive of those moderate voters that lead to victory at the polls.

Which radical right are you talking about? The American Nazis don't vote or support us. The KKK doesn't either. They're someone called Lincoln that most of them are still mad at. Talk about holding a grudge a long time.
Reply
Seriously you're totally wrong and I hope you don't realize that until after the next set of elections. The GOP's strength lies in strong defense, lower taxes and more self reliance. Other than "bring the troops home" what do you guys actually stand for? Obama has shocked many of your union voters who didn't realize hope and change meant 10-15% unemployment, currency devaluation, higher utility costs from Cap & Trade and worst of all, huge tax increases to pay for all of the new spending. But hey, like the Titanic, once Obama hits bottom it will stabilize. That is unless he starts digging. -

Didn't anyone watch the Republican Convention last year?
Reply
The Modern Republican Party is the Party of Old White People - (not that there's anything wrong with that ... it is what it is). Oh sure, there were some trust fund babies in the crowd ... and sons and daughters of Insurance Company lobbyists.
But still ...
Only 8% of Latinos view the Republican party favorably?
Duh ...
The REASON only 8% of Latinos view the Republicans favorably is because ... only 8% of REPUBLICANS view LATINOS Favorably.

more proof that the GOP is in total disconnect mode with the real voting public out there.
Reply
as long as the GOP continues to cater to that small, shrill, faction of far right religious whites, as long as the GOP continues to let things like racism and classism color their policy (when they decide to actually come up with some policy beyond "give rich people more money") as long as they continue to attack obviously capable people like Sotomayor, that disconnect will continue.-

I think you're wrong. You guys had one policy, beat the GOP. You used the troops and the media reported every death on the front page. We've had attacks and losses but you don't see that anymore. The troops are still there, so much for your one promise.
Reply
I think you're mistaken when you talk politics and this last election. The GOP ran a very weak candidate. McCain is a Rino and the only reason 59 million voted for him was Sarah Palin. She energized the base. She's cheesy, she's corny, she's way out of place in Washington. But she's not a beltway DC insider. That's why the base loves her. You guys must still fear her, you go after her ever few days. You wouldn't waste the time if you didn't.
As to Sotomayor, have you actually listened to her comments over the last several years? She's a racist by your standards. I'm unimpressed many of her decisions and really feel this was a choice based soley on her race and gender. I truly hope she proves me wrong because the GOP can't stop her appointment. I do find it funny when we call you on the race card, you play it right back. When are we going to pick the best person for a job instead of having to consider race, color, creed, or preference.

Strong family units and working hard are American values. The GOP doesn't 'own' them, any more than they 'own' patriotism.
Reply
The GOP doesn't value hard work, at least not anymore. If they did, they wouldn't continually squat and crap on the working class. If they did, they wouldn't demonize every single union. If they did, they would want every working American and their children to have health coverage. If they did, they wouldn't fight tooth and nail over every minimum wage increase.
You say you honor traditional Latino families? Then how come whenever there's ever an article posted about Latinos, one of you backwater douchebags always cleverly quips "I wonder how many are illegal aliens? HYUK! HYUK!"
Perhaps when you deign to climb down from your high horses and spend some time with the people who do the majority of living, working, and dying in this country the GOP might earn some respect. -

I saw a comment on here the other day. I forget from who and for what story. Anyway, the poster used the word "Mexicans" in place of "Illegal Immigrants".
Reply
It was just interesting to me because I am betting if someone said "Illegals" to you you would assume "Mexicans" - myself included. Regardless of party affiliation, we as a nation need to overcome this pattern of thinking. Certain Republican constituent groups are just more overtly perpetuating the problem, but we're all guilty of such thought. -

so, it seems you're saying that the GOP should just give up and keep beating the "THEY TOOK R JOBS!" drums and further alienate latinos? i hope you realize that latinos and other non-white immigrant groups are growing at a really fast clip. unless the gop becomes less toxic to latinos and other minorities, the GOP will never again achieve national prominence.

Big surprise.. you could show those same numbers with other minority groups. Republicans tend to be anti illegal immigration. Something most Latinos do not agree with. Considering many of them who are in fact legal citizens were born here because of parents who had entered illegally or overstayed their Visa/Greencard.
Reply
Latinos are also mostly catholic.. and Catholics tend to vote democrat or at least be more liberal on social issues. Add all these factors up, and this article is just stating the obvious.
How about you find a poll that shows 88% of Americans think illegal immigrants should be allowed to stay in the United States. Not gonna happen.

Keep it up. I hope there are Hispanics are reading these posts. Almost inevitably there are. America is changing. Would you then say many whites of European descent are brainwashed by Republicans? Pure stupidity. There is no melting pot to many Republicans. They view America as a nearly exclusive white Christian enclave. It just part of the delusion they hold. That was the crowd I saw at a Palin rally this fall. What do you think Blacks and Hispanics think when they see a national candidate using "Redneck Woman" as a theme song? Isn't the term "redneck" fairly synomynous with closed minded bigotry and racism? As Palin showed, to many on the GOP side it is also apparently a term of pride.

Part of the reason for G. W. Bush' electoral success was that he was able to attract a substantial number of Latino voters. He favored comprehensive immigration reform including a guest worker program that was popular with Latinos. Unfortunately, it was very unpopular with the Republican controlled congress. They favored making illegal immigration, as well as anybody who helps them in any way, a felony. This, predictably, died in the Senate. I think they wanted to look tough and do nothing. After all, they still need their lawns mowed don't they?

Like every politician that complains about the Republican party or their policies, they'll throw latinos under the bus. They want their own radical right wing policies in effect and could care less about all those who oppose them. They have this psuedo moral vision for the world and they think that every country and race in the world should live by their rules. They are too arrogant to accept anyone else's point of view. The key to destroying them is to keep isolating them. Let them keep throwing people under the bus, until all they have left for followers are groups like the neo-nazi's and the KKK.

That's an easy one if true, they've been suckered into believing that they're truly humanly important to democrats and liberals rather than just a huge demographical voting pool. If Republicans decided to classify and catagorize in that lovely "politically correct" way the left does...Latino Americans, African Americans, Asian Americans, the poor/the unfortunate, etc., maybe we could trick them into coming back back over to the right? And we'd get'em too because we'd label them "Myan Kingdom Americans", or "Gorgeously Tan Americans", you know, something even MORE politically correct and slobbery.
And by the way, I don't think the Republican Party has dibs on every cracker in America, I'm pretty sure "Caucasion Americans" are spread out fairly equally throughout both main party's and not just teathered to the Rep's. And I'm equally certain that there's plenty of racist's in BOTH of those party's to not draw a conclusion as to who's got more of them?-

My Fellow Americans: I think you will find that most Liberals and Conservatives generally like South American people. We just want them to come to this country legally. We want them to help support our way of life by paying their fare share in taxes. We want them to get insurance to pay for their health care because that burden is just to much for our fiscal budget. We want them to take pride in being here by not turning beautiful neighborhoods into drug paradises or slums. We want to live peacefully, without having to think about being robbed or murdered, by many of the criminals from South American that have escaped their countries to hide here in American. We might be racist and that is our right as they may be racist and that is their right. That does not mean we can't still live in harmony with one another.
Reply
We built a great country here, we called it America, we are proud of it and want everyone that comes here to enjoy and be proud of it as well. Many people from the South American culture help make this country great and are appreciated because of it. Many became legal citizens and take pride in being a citizen. I really don't have a problem with that.
I suppose they could have done the same in their country but because of a subversive government, like the one that is being put together in this country, they were not able to accomplish all they would have liked to but it is never to late. Can you imagine what great countries they could have if they gave it the same effort as it takes to come here illegally. Maybe one day they will accomplish those goal for their own homelands.

OMG hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha. I swear to freaking god i won't need comedy for a week after reading some of the stuff posted on this thread. Rand McNally might take issue with your characterization of Mexico as being in South America. Brilliant. Truly brilliant.
P.S. In order to solve the problem, I recommend that we give 40% of Texas Republicans their wish and let Texas and the South secede. We can then call the newly created country "South America" and rename the old South America to something like Fiestaville (or whatever else Rick Perry would suggest). The USA can then erect a big fence on our southern border to keep the impoverished Third World South Americans from sneaking across the border trying to find work.

This does not bode well for the GOP. Latinos are now already the largest American minority.

We also know that the African-American population is now motivated to vote as it has never before.
With these two minority groups, the Democrats will gain seats in 2010 and President Obama will be re-elected in 2012. The Republicans can no longer depend on its dwindling white southern base....although they will continue to try desperately to do so until they become the Whigs of the 21st century.

I really have to wonder why Latino's do not love republicans, I remember Clinton and his cronies sending back that poor little cuban boy to cuba after his mom died trying to get him to America. Since most Latino's are religious and generally catholic one would think they would be more conservative. Oddly I also wonder why it is blacks were freed by a Republican president and yet the align themselves with the party that works very hard to hold them back. Keeping people on welfare and dependant on government seems to be the way democrats have found to gain control.

Also, the "poor little cuban boy" had a loving father waiting for him back in Cuba. Anti-abortion cultists cons of all people should understand why it made sense to relinquish him to his father. Anyway, I'm sure you would have felt exactly the same if the situation had involved a "poor little Hatian boy" right?

At last the Latinos sees the REAL GOP Party. A Party that want their Votes, but personally doesn't give a (s)hit about them. The same goes for the Red Necks, the GOP Party which is based in CEOs and the like could care less about those booger pickers, their votes they want, but they are too dumb to see that, calling themselves Conservative REPs. Give me a Break.
