This week it was reported that Steve Jobs, the CEO and cofounder of Apple, underwent a liver transplant two months ago. One detail concerning Jobs's transplant seemed odd: The surgery took place at a hospital in Tennessee, some 2,000 miles from Jobs' home in northern California. Why Tennessee?

$500,000 up front, regardless of outcome... I suppose you thought you were worth more?

This article was quite a frame of reference adjustment.

Listen to the super libs rant hatred. They look and rant out of ignorance. All Jobs did was look around to find the state where the shortest waiting was and go there. Silly libs. That was pointed out in the story. All Jobs did was find out that information and act on it.

I guess they think that with national health care EVERY one will be able to get transplants anytime, anywhere.

The libs are in for one hell of a shock. They're will be waiting lists for common tests and operations. You get what you pay for - if the care is free, you get nothing for nothing.

I'm not sure why Steve Jobs should be blamed for getting a transplant because he was able to afford it.
The will to survive is a pretty strong compulsion for most people.
Whether the system is broke and needs fixing is a different story.
I would like to hope that SJ will put up some funds for "transplant scholarships" for a few people who can't afford them.
In fact I'll do more than that - I'll write and suggest it to him.
