Governor Went to Argentina, Not Hiking »

Posted By Eagle_Eye 7 months, 2 weeks ago in Political News

ATLANTA (June 24) — South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford told a newspaper that he was in Argentina during his unexplained 5-day absence, not hiking along the Appalachian Trail as his office previously said.
The Republican told The State newspaper in South Carolina that he arrived at the Atlanta airport Wednesday.

Sanford said he decided at the last minute to go to the South American country. The governor says he had considered hiking on the Appalachian Trail but wanted to do something "exotic."
His whereabouts had been unknown since Thursday. Why did his staff tell the media he went hiking? "I don't know," Sandford said.
Sanford said he returned a day earlier than he had planned because the trip turned into more of a fuss than he expected.

WOW, this is getting even more bizarre!!! No one knew he left the country? WTH is going on with this guy!!!

To go to Argentina and miss "Father's Day" when you are a "Family Man" and not even tell your family where you are going or to even call home on "Father's Day" is a red flag that there is something seriously wrong!!!!

Obviously the man has serious problems at home, & is alienated from his family. The public just isn't aware of that. Why he didn't tell his colleagues he was 'going out of town' I can only speculate about. But "stupid" comes to mind.

Well this is a different story.
I considered defending the Governor, for taking the time to reflect alone in the woods.
I actually thought it was kind of cool.
And appropriate to leave the cell phone turned off.
Now it appears to be a bit sneaky.

Isn't Argentina where all the sex change operations take place??

I am sure they will be looking into this and see what his "Pass Port" shows.....

It is very strange for him to be gone for that long and no one called in a missing person report...as far as his security detail, that is really **** poor security!!!

This has gone from "irresponsible" to "wtf". Argentina and the AT are two COMPLETELY different areas, so it's not like "Oops, I got confused." would do a whole lot.

What are you gonna do when you get that 3am phone call?

I'm gonna be hiding out having a secret tryst in an undisclosed location, and not answering my phone.

No one would have thought twice if he declared he was going on vacation or a retreat and had given a phone number and an address to be reached. But no, he didn't care enough about his responsibilities and commitments to his State but only his hurt feelings by being b*tched slapped twice. Once by the legislature and the other by the courts.

Like Ensign, this is guy that was on the short list as possibly running for President in 2012. Not sure, but this episode will give his opponents a lot of ammo to use against him.

The 3AM Phone Call -"The President is not here and we are not quite sure as to where he might be"

The governor obviously has a problem not only with his family but in being governor. He needs to be relieved of his job immediately. It that's not a cause for impeachment, I don't know what is. Illinois just impeached our governor for bad conduct, and this governor's conduct appears worse. At least Rod B. was on the job most of the time.

oh, please. the illusion that the governor has to be ready at a moments' notice is laughable. our politicians are simply not that important to have to have around all the time.

i think the chasm exists because many on the left do not have an independent bone in their body. in their world the top-down model is the ultimate authority and they can't imagine anything being done outside protocol.

this is most evident in ones' upbringing. did your parents give you a sling shot and let you run around in the street when you were younger, or did they give you one of those body leashes and make you call home every 2 hours to report on your whereabouts?

obviously, people's upbringings are going to be different. but, the pernicious suggestion that the sc governor went on a dangerous hiatus and left his people alone like a child in the wilderness without a guide are surely the same who were brought up to believe in giving their power to some authority outside of themselves: a top down model based on a sense of codepedence.

What's all this commotion? S.C. Gov going on a sneak. Why did he abandon his state in favor of a secret undisclosed location? Argentina is it, or perhaps somewhere else. We don't know.

As the top elected official, he should be accessible and be able to be contacted for a variety of reasons. He's not just any citizen - he's the governor. If not, the position isn't that important. However, sometimes a person needs freedom to move about without the constant tug of everyone/everything else. Whether that's a good or bad depends on motives. His motive (to me) is unknowable so I'll have to hold onto my rock for now, and I suspect this is one of those issues we'll have completely forgotten about in a week or two.

That's about as messed up as it gets! Why the lies? There was a reason, those people don't do anything without a reason, and the outcome is usually grim!

Nothing's going on in South Carolina anyway. What's the big deal?

I wish all of government employees would take a few weeks off and clear out some traffic. Of course they won't because they know if they did, we wouldn't even know they were gone.

I'd rather go to Argentina than hiking anytime ...

OMG - From the Governor,"It's interesting how this thing has gone down". That would be right after he discussed his association with C-Street.....C-Street? A Christian lobbying group, ala K-Street? Are you kidding?
He also asks the press for an indulgence for Ginnie and the boys because the media is showing undue attention to them.
Guess what - that would be a H*ll of a lot more attention
and concern than he showed for them in the last week.
He says he and Ginnie are working it out - REALLY?
Sounds like he was "working it out" for the last week with
his friend with benefits, whom he states is married and has
                two children herself.
