Comments for Governor Went to Argentina, Not Hiking »
Posted By Eagle_Eye 5 months, 4 weeks ago in Political NewsATLANTA (June 24) — South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford told a newspaper that he was in Argentina during his unexplained 5-day absence, not hiking along the Appalachian Trail as his office previously said.
The Republican told The State newspaper in South Carolina that he arrived at the Atlanta airport Wednesday.
Sanford said he decided at the last minute to go to the South American country. The governor says he had considered hiking on the Appalachian Trail but wanted to do something "exotic."
His whereabouts had been unknown since Thursday. Why did his staff tell the media he went hiking? "I don't know," Sandford said.
Sanford said he returned a day earlier than he had planned because the trip turned into more of a fuss than he expected.

Don't you think it’s about time that the politicians learn where not to put their dicks? I mean really; between Richard Nixon (tricky dick) and Dick Cheney, there are so many dicks like Bill Clinton and Mark Sanford that who can possibly keep track of them. Fox TV could start a new sitcom: "Do you know where your dick is?"

Obviously the man has serious problems at home, & is alienated from his family. The public just isn't aware of that. Why he didn't tell his colleagues he was 'going out of town' I can only speculate about. But "stupid" comes to mind.

No one would have thought twice if he declared he was going on vacation or a retreat and had given a phone number and an address to be reached. But no, he didn't care enough about his responsibilities and commitments to his State but only his hurt feelings by being b*tched slapped twice. Once by the legislature and the other by the courts.

Tim, I hope you're right but I have my doubts. I'm currently watching Bushwipe Wolf Blitzer (looking distraught and animatronic as usual) trying to turn this into a story about "redemption". FOX is also playing it down, trying to insist that everybody's doing it.. Cavutos asking Why Are So Many "Politicians" having affairs? Gov. Sanford, when he was in the US House of Representatives, urged Bill Clinton to resign over the Lewinsky affair. He even ran a "family values" campaign when he was running for governor of SC. (Personally I do not care if he had an affair, as that is between him and the two women.)

So it was the "do as I say and not as I do" attitude that is leading to his downfall.

The governor obviously has a problem not only with his family but in being governor. He needs to be relieved of his job immediately. It that's not a cause for impeachment, I don't know what is. Illinois just impeached our governor for bad conduct, and this governor's conduct appears worse. At least Rod B. was on the job most of the time.

I think it's a little weird but to relieve him is really a stretch. Does their state have vacation protocols for the governor? Did he have to submit his vacation request to his superiors? Who would that be. If something bad happened while he was gone, the Lt. Governor would assume full control. Not a big problem officially. That's why we have Lt. Governors and Vice Presidents. Politically it would be suicide. I think this is a lot of fluff from the DC beltway media.

I guess we need to find out if he got a BJ right since that seems to be what the criteria is for impeachment with the right since it appears your claiming all that other stuff represents normal behavior.

i think the chasm exists because many on the left do not have an independent bone in their body. in their world the top-down model is the ultimate authority and they can't imagine anything being done outside protocol.
Reply
this is most evident in ones' upbringing. did your parents give you a sling shot and let you run around in the street when you were younger, or did they give you one of those body leashes and make you call home every 2 hours to report on your whereabouts?
obviously, people's upbringings are going to be different. but, the pernicious suggestion that the sc governor went on a dangerous hiatus and left his people alone like a child in the wilderness without a guide are surely the same who were brought up to believe in giving their power to some authority outside of themselves: a top down model based on a sense of codepedence.-

What's all this commotion? S.C. Gov going on a sneak. Why did he abandon his state in favor of a secret undisclosed location? Argentina is it, or perhaps somewhere else. We don't know.
Reply
As the top elected official, he should be accessible and be able to be contacted for a variety of reasons. He's not just any citizen - he's the governor. If not, the position isn't that important. However, sometimes a person needs freedom to move about without the constant tug of everyone/everything else. Whether that's a good or bad depends on motives. His motive (to me) is unknowable so I'll have to hold onto my rock for now, and I suspect this is one of those issues we'll have completely forgotten about in a week or two.-

Personally, I really don't care about Sanford cheating on his wife just as I didn't care about Spitzer, Edwards, Ensigh, Clinton, or McCain but what I do care about is the outrage from the right side when it's a Democrat and a complete lack of concern when it's a Republican. I didn't really say anything much about Clinton. I liked NAFTA and Welfare Reform during his administration. I was fully aware that he was, through no doing of his own other than getting elected, riding two very beneficial historical waves during his administration: 1) on the foreign policy side, the end of the Cold War, and 2) on domestic economy side, the sweeping reorganization of corporate America that began under Reagan and was massively enhanced by the maturation of technological productivity tools during the 1990s.

Given that now the word is out that Sanford was visiting a girlfriend, it becomes a different story than what appeared to me originally. I don't know a whole lot about him. This explains a lot about why the people of SC are having it so rough. The whole sum in the nut-shell is most likely black mail. The price was probably too high and that is probably why he wanted the stimulus money with out conditions. Our politicians are always using the skeleton closet on each other. When you take a look at all the unfair laws made to make the average citizens life harder, like the fire at Will law. Somebody paid or black mailed a lot of people to get that one passed. It's just about all through the south. That bill has caused many a person to be in the poor house and many a man or woman to do things they wish they didn't have to do to hold on to a job. That Law is a law of tyranny for the lucky to be able to work pay check to pay check person. That is just one law of many the SC government has made. SC has always been a penile state. Why does the legislature makes it that way. An answer that will one day come to light soon. You are known by the Laws you make. They dare to call their selves Christian and make laws that bring on more crime. People have to feed their families. You are fired Sanford and you had more than a hair out of place. How does it feel? The legislature is next. One by one, those bunch of turkeys will take their selves down.

I have replied to rumle4skin's comment and would like to

announce to the thread in general - I think the media is
going too far with the release of the personal emails.
There is no point - passed cruelty. I can tsk-tsk with
the best of them when a hypocrite has been revealed - and
I did. My major concern as a citizen though was his lack
of respect, and absence of responsibility for his office.
I think it's kind of disgusting to watch Olbermann giddily
reading love letters and SO enjoying the job.
It's a dirty job and they seem WAY too happy to do it.
Progressives are not necessarily guttersnipes - we are better
than that.-

I agree AU, and I am over it, this has got to be killing his wife and destroying his children..they want to reconcile, let's let them work it out, but he needs to resign from Gov like Spitz so his state can move ahead also.

His continuing in office will make this stay in the lime light. -

AnteUp, I'm actually of two minds on this issue. On the one hand, I agree with you that it seems kinda tacky and tawdry to be salivating over the details of this story but I really don't think Keith Olbermann is doing it just for the hell of it. Personally, I'm sick to death of the right wing's sleazy attack machine. Cons are crapping bricks at the prospect of the Fairness Doctrine coming back but, for now, these people are absolutely unaccountable for the lies they peddle daily. They are doing their best to sabotage the current President and just because those on the left are above lying and using scare tactics to get its message doesn't mean we should just let Republicans steamroll us. Just as gay activists out those who work to deny them their rights, I see no reason someone like Keith Olbermann or Jon Stewart (if not our elected officials) should be chastised for fighting back by hammering away on an issue that is based in fact. I'm tired of the Dems playing nice and I know I'm not the only one. If they don't start slapping these Republicans around so that we can get stuff done, Obama is going to be a one term President and many of them are going to be on their way out of office over the next couple of election cycles. Again, I think KO, Ed Schultz and others on the left are getting tired of Dem passivity. They don't need to be tyrants but they need to take advantage of the opportunities that come their way.

I grant the validity of some of your points, meso. But the Countdown reading -

the critique by Olbermann and a COMEDIAN of the STYLE of the man's
erotic love letters served no purpose. Humiliation and ridicule just don't
help us get where we need to go.
I love Ed Schultz and Rachel Maddow. Maddow is always on a quest to
share what she has learned in an attempt to educate us. Shultz has more
of an agenda showing - but maybe that's my blind spot......cause I agree
with him - lol.
The Right has an agenda for the country that is absolutely FULL of far more
damaging plans than Sanford's love letters. We cannot afford to get distracted
by cheap thrills. Trashing someone is easy compared to the real muscle it
takes to change the tide. Obama hasn't done squat about gun control - yet
the Right has their base in a dither that he wants to take away their guns!
How can such nonsense survive? It's going to take some real heavy lifting
to change public perception - and that also means calling out corrupt Dems
as well as Republicans.
IMO - when Olbermann lost Bush as his focus - he got mean and suffered
a bit of superiority (like he got rid of him FOR us) - I think his ego is showing.
He still has great guests and that is what keeps me tuning in, but I
have no reason to believe that the Left couldn't produce something just
as vile as Limbaugh - I am always on the lookout for that monster's
mirror image on my side. I don't want it to catch on.
I also say if we've got the votes? Push the measure through!!-

Thanks, Ante. I think we'll have to agree to disagree on Olbermann. He could have sunken to Limbaugh or Glenn Beck levels of cartoonishly infantile attacks but he didn't. When I see what the likes of Sarah Palin and her neocon wh*re supporters here on Propeller are doing to attack Obama and peddle their disgusting agenda, I'm sorry, but I can't get too choked up because this guy's affair has been exposed and Keith Olbermann is milking it. I want these people SLAPPED down to size like the filthy right wing trolls they are. Ahem...And have a nice day. ;-0

Wait, meso - find a copy of the new Newsweek (Khamenei on the cover) and

take a look at the photo on page 34. I cried when I saw it - because it was
beautiful - no. Because it is such a graphic representation of what those
of us with true conviction should strive to be. I fear that those young men's
actions will not save them from a terrible fate at the hands of the newly announced tribunals - but look at what they are expressing with their deeds - in fact their safety and their very lives. They are trying very hard not to allow the crowd to get even.
They are exhibiting the very BEST of what we as people can be.
My words cannot possibly express the emotion I felt when I saw it -
I said aloud through tears, "Those poor babies", because I fear for them -
but what they did was so wonderful. Getting even doesn't even come close
to feeding my soul the way their act of bravery and compassion did.
I am probably not doing justice to the subject - so you take a look at it.
Let me know how you felt about it.

The dems playing nice..lol I think the McCain/Obama election before Sarah entererd was alot cleaner as the Obama/Clinton primary. It was the left who began the attacks afterwards on Palin. It did not support any of the canidates running and therefore watched it all unbiased.

Seems to me the dems are doing the same things they copmplained about when the cons did it. VERY, hypocritical. But I do not image that will go through YOUR THINK radical left head. Really you and afew others must be the worse representation for the democrats on this site.
I am happy the MOST are not as extremist as you.
