SC gov's disappearance a problem for GOP »
Posted By Progressive 7 months, 2 weeks ago in Political OpinionNEW YORK (AP) - South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford's mysterious disappearance from his state, topped with misinformation from his staff about where he had gone and what he'd been doing, is the latest sign that Republican governors, once thought to be President Obama's most credible adversaries, haven't quite lived up to their billing.

Perhaps missing South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford arrived on the Appalachian Trail by parachute? WYFF in Greenville reports that “a state vehicle is missing and was tracked down, not to the Appalachian Trail [where Sanford’s office claims he is], but to the Hartsfield-Jackson Airport in Atlanta.” Sources also tell the station that a federal agent spotted Sanford boarding a plane, without his normal security detail. CNN also reports that a black SUV, believed to have been driven by Sanford, has been found at the airport in Columbia, South Carolina. And, Sanford’s wife, Jenny, says she still hasn’t heard from him, telling CNN, "I am being a mom today. I have not heard from my husband. I am taking care of my children."

I don't really think what he did was bad enough for him to resign, as it happens all the time to people, and increasingly to politicians! The Republicans made such a big thing out of Clinton/Lewinski tryst, and why? In the end, it's something that should be settled by the husband and wife, as it should be with Ensign and Sanford, as it rarely affects the actual goings-on of government.

The only way I see him resigning is if he used state funds to pay for the trip, his dinners, his room, etc, in South America.
Other than that, carry on the best you can, assuming you can take the heat...

The strange story of missing South Carolina Governor Mark Sanford took a bizarre twist this morning when he returned to South Carolina... from Buenos Aires. According to the Charlotte Observer, the governor spent seven days in Argentina recharging after a difficult legislative session where he argued with lawmakers over how to spend stimulus funds. In the interim, Sanford's disappearance caused a global media frenzy. Sanford said that he didn't know why his staff said he was hiking the Appalachian Trail, but that, in fairness to them, he'd said he might go hiking. In scenic Buenos Aires, the governor said drove along the coast by himself, but declined to give further details. "I don't know how this thing got blown out of proportion," he said of the kerfuffle over his absence. Politico reports that state officials say Sanford failed to make arrangements for executive decisions during his trip.

Something stinks with this whole mess! I mean his wife, the Lt Gov, his staff??? Someone should have known where he was, and the way it's looking, no one did, and that's the way he wanted it.. IT WILL COME OUT, eventually, and it won't be pretty, their messes never are.

The leader of a prominent Maryland Republican group is comparing President Obama to Adolf Hitler, apparently with a straight face, in a letter on its website, ThinkProgress reports. “Obama and Hitler have a great deal in common in my view,” writes the president of Republican Women of Anne Arundel County. “Obama and Hitler use the ‘blitzkrieg’ method to overwhelm their enemies. FAST, CARPET BOMBING intent on destruction.”
Reply
“Hitler’s blitzkrieg bombing destroyed many European cities—quickly and effectively. Obama is systematically destroying the American economy and with it AMERICA. First the banking/investment industry, next private enterprise (GM and Chrysler) and now HEALTH CARE,” the letter said. “We too CAN fight back. Contact everyone you know. Start a blitzkrieg of our own.”-

Actually, there are many comparisons between Hitler and Obama. He's terrific at reading the speeches. He's got the media eating out of his hand. He answers very few questions. Where he's like Stalin, Lenin, Chavez or Castro would be the nationalization of private business. Seizing GM and Chrysler and then giving them to one of your biggest campaign contributors, the UAW, is simply communist. His attempts at national health and shutting down any opposition would also fall under the communists.

Sanford has now admitted to an affair with a woman from Argentina. Now I'd be the last person to condemn a man or woman from breaking their marriage vows EXCEPT he held himself as a defender of family values. I condemn him for his hypocrisy.

I would agree, He's going to need to work this out with his family first and then his constituents. As to the family values bit, whatever. I really don't know much about him, he hasn't been on the national circuit in our area. I think the GOP considers him DMW. Dead Man Walking. He's been removed from the GOP governor committee so he'll be leaving office shortly. Either resign or when his term ends.

I wonder how many lawyers working for the white house went to Argentina, compared to the three hundred who went to Alaska in 08.What Sanford needs to do,is wait a few months, have his Lt.governor step out on the lawn of the state house, and declare Mark Sanford the best governor ever.End of story
