Exactly! Regardless of how you feel about the scandals and personal issues he may have had, he was a musical genius that had a profound impact on our culture through the past several decades. He literally had a multi-generational impact, considering his music started playing on the radio in 1969 and really never stopped through today. It may have waned in recent years, but his songs still popped up on occasion and there isn't a part of the world who doesn't know who he is.

It's a tragic loss, certainly. What I find to be the most tragic about it, however, is that his obit will inevitably be tagged with the scandals that plagued him throughout his life. I hope seriously that history will remember his accomplishments more than his scandals though. His contributions were great and it would be a shame to see his legacy minimized by something unrelated to his musical contribution to the world.

No official word yet. TMZ seems to be the only people reporting this at this time. Keeping my fingers crossed that the TMZ info is incorrect but something tells me that it is not.

I wouldn't be surprised if he did himself in. He was in line to do a tour that would have done in 50 year olds who were in better shape, it sounds. Well, sad ending to a strange guy if he DID do himself in. Hopefully this is just a publicity gimmick.

I am impressed with the respect on this thread. Please let's maintain the tone. In spite of the controversy, the man never stopped "thrilling" us with his music and his many talents...and, wow, he could really dance. He will be missed!

Interesting that TMZ announced the death of Jackson at 5:20 but the hospital has the official time of death at 5:26 eastern.

It probabaly should have been earlier than that. It was reported that he was in cardiac arrest when the emts arrived and that when he got to the hospital his condition had not changed. At that point it was clear that he was gone. Damn shame.

One's always sorry to see someone so (relatively) young die. He was a great performer, in some ways era-changing. Sadly, he didn't need any enemies. He seemed to carry his worst one within himself.

today I received this sick text message from 321-277-5935, her name is yvette and she stated the following: "Micheal Jackson will not be cremated since hes mostly plastic he will be melted
down into lrgos so kids can play with him for a change"., I find this the most vulgar and hateful thing a person can say, so, I called her and got her voice mail. I let her have it and I am praying and asking all of you who Love Michael as much
as I do to telephone this hate monger, locate her and let her
know how much of a low life she is. I Love Michael and grew up
to his genious and I think yvette should be the one being placed deep in the ground. I did'nt ask for her to telephone me, I don't even know her, I have done nothing but cried from the time of the sad news and continue to do so and I am an old
schooler. As an old schooler, our parents taught us how to Love, Respect and Honor--apprantely, yvette has not had the honor of knowing Love in her life, however, I think the low-life needs for all of us to show her the way and let her know, he was Loved, he has a hurting mother, a father that has to feel
so lost and siblings that are like all of us who Love him so much. My heart if broken and my spirit is so full of sorrow.
To M.J., rest in peace and glory before God, you so deserve it.
