Love him or hate him he's responsible for a major part of American culture and music.

    He was never found guilty of child molestation. The fact that he settled one case doesn't prove a thing. It's very likely that he was trying to avoid a very lengthy, emotionally devastating trial. He was found not guilty in the second charge against him. I am sick and tired of people making statements when they have absolutely no facts to back themselves up. Michael Jackson was a child himself. He hardly fit the profile of a pedophile.

  Exactly! Regardless of how you feel about the scandals and personal issues he may have had, he was a musical genius that had a profound impact on our culture through the past several decades. He literally had a multi-generational impact, considering his music started playing on the radio in 1969 and really never stopped through today. It may have waned in recent years, but his songs still popped up on occasion and there isn't a part of the world who doesn't know who he is.
  
  It's a tragic loss, certainly. What I find to be the most tragic about it, however, is that his obit will inevitably be tagged with the scandals that plagued him throughout his life. I hope seriously that history will remember his accomplishments more than his scandals though. His contributions were great and it would be a shame to see his legacy minimized by something unrelated to his musical contribution to the world.
