Here is the number to the House of Representatives switchboard (202)225-3121.

Call your congressman/woman and ask that they vote NO on this hideous piece of legislation. This bill would cause the cost of energy for the average American family to rise more than $1200.00 a year over the next five years. That is in addition to the costs that businesses will pass on to the consumers. This bill will cripple the US economy!-

Ironically, that is only 1/10 of the cost per family of the Iraq debacle cost. If, and I say if, it can remove us from a dependence on foreign energy sources, it would be a cheaper solution for national security than Iraq, therefore more conservative.
Reply
If Iraq didn't cripple the economy, in your eyes, than why would something that cost 1/10th that amount? -

Leading Republicans are claiming that President Obama's proposal to curb greenhouse gas emissions would cost households as much as $3,100 per year. The Republican National Committee calls it a "massive national energy tax." But the $3,100 figure is a misrepresentation of both Obama's proposal and the study from which the number is derived.
Republicans say they base their figure on a study from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. But one of the authors says that the GOP's use of the study is "simplistic and misleading" and that it ignores key provisions designed to cushion the impact on consumers. The author puts the true added cost of a cap-and-trade system at closer to $800 a year. -

With no real evidence that "greenhouse gases" do what the theory says We are to be taxed to death over this? This is just another liberal feel good tax that will cripple businesses and people.

Fact - the average temperatures of Mars and the Moon track the average temperatures of Earth. Are we transporting those green house gasses there?-

Climate myths: Global warming is down to the Sun, not humans
Reply
http://www.newscientist.com/article/dn11650
No one denies our star's central role in determining how warm our planet is. The issue today is how much solar changes have contributed to the recent warming, and what that tells us about future climate.
...there is no correlation between solar activity and the strong warming during the past 40 years. Claims that this is the case have not stood up to scrutiny (pdf document).
Direct measurements of solar output since 1978 show a steady rise and fall over the 11-year sunspot cycle, but no upwards or downward trend .
Similarly, there is no trend in direct measurements of the Sun's ultraviolet output and in cosmic rays. So for the period for which we have direct, reliable records, the Earth has warmed dramatically even though there has been no corresponding rise in any kind of solar activity.

I am in the UK, so it's not my place to phone an American political representative. However, climate is a Worldwide event,so it effects me.The USA,under Bush dragged it's heels over any legislation concerning climate change,or in fact pollution in general. So I welcome a "progressive"president, attempting to keep in step with the rest of the civilized World. Here in Europe, even conservatives accept the science of climate change.
Reply
The argument that it will put taxes up is weak.If taxes are to be paid for anything, they should be spent on keeping people and the planet healthy.Petrol in the UK is around £5($8)per gallon and no political party is claiming they will radically cut the price. Why? because left-wing,right wing, all our political parties accept scientific evidence.
In fact, even if you don't accept, the human element in global warming, what about other issues caused by atmospheric pollution? In Europe and the USA,the increase in asthma,in children has risen exponentially! If you pump large amounts of rubbish into the air,is it not logical that in time the atmosphere will become polluted? It isn't a conspiracy dreamed up by the left.In fact by European standards Obama is a centrist,or maybe just a hint left of center.-

What? There was no foot dragging by our previous administration. No sirree. Reversing the bipartisan efforts of the prevous 30 years worth of environmental reforms was one of the first items of business when they took office in 2001. The Bush Administration has the distinct honor of being the first in 30 years to leave the country more polluted than when they came into office. -

I remember that pollution was a major problem in London during the 1950s and 1960s. There used to be a dirty, metallic-looking cloud that hung over Los Angeles. It was estimated that breathing the air in and around New York City was the equivalent of smoking three packs of cigarettes each day.
Reply
The air has become much cleaner. Cars don't pollute like they did. They primarily emit carbon dioxide and water. It's hard to get the uneducated sheeple (graduates of our government-run schools) to think water is a pollutant but they're gullible enough to be scared of the chemical symbol for carbon dioxide (CO2).
Incidences of asthma have doubled and more people suffer from allergic reactions. These are especially true for children. There is conjecture that early vaccinations and the overuse of antibiotics are at fault. But the air is cleaner than I can remember (I'm 65 now) and making carbon dioxide levels the cause of our problems is preposterous.
I am impressed by the Channel 4 program "The Great Global Warming Scam" that aired in March, 2007, with numerous scientists explaining the lies and offering positive proof that man-made warming is false. A 2004 program "Doomsday Called Off" aired in Canada also contained strong evidence to demonstrate that AGW is a false claim. -

Thanks for your comments, Mikunited. As you can see from reading many posts here, there are lots of greedy, misinformed and poorly educated people in America who are willing to destroy our planet and wh*re their very souls to turn a buck. These people are *dangerously* uneducated and easily duped. Terrifying, to be sure. ;-(

Archeological Evidence Of Human Activity Found Beneath Lake Huron
Reply
ScienceDaily (June 9, 2009) — More than 100 feet deep in Lake Huron, on a wide stoney ridge that 9,000 years ago was a land bridge, University of Michigan researchers have found the first archeological evidence of human activity preserved beneath the Great Lakes.
The researchers located what they believe to be caribou-hunting structures and camps used by the early hunters of the period.
"This is the first time we've identified structures like these on the lake bottom," said John O'Shea, curator of Great Lakes Archaeology in the Museum of Anthropology and professor in the Department of Anthropology. "Scientifically, it's important because the entire ancient landscape has been preserved and has not been modified by farming, or modern development. That has implications for ecology, archaeology and environmental modeling."
A paper about the findings is published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. Co-authors are O'Shea and Guy Meadows, director of the Marine Hydrodynamics Laboratories and a professor in the departments of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering, and Atmospheric, Oceanic and Space Sciences.
O'Shea and Meadows found features that they believe to be hunting pits, camps, caribou drive lanes and stone piles used to attract the caribou to the drive lanes. Drive lanes are long rows of rocks used to channel caribou into ambushes. The 1,148-foot structure they believe is a drive lane closely resembles one on Victoria Island in the Canadian subarctic.

All the changes that came about since the late 60's in cleaning up the environment ended Jan 21, 2001. Since then it has been getting worse. But look at it this way, the profit margin for the biggest polluters have gone up in the last 8 years.

Throwing money all over the place and never getting done right is the motto of this goverment . Rather than attacking and solving one problem at a time the right way and most economical way they would rather get nothing done with our wasted tax money.

Our only saving grace is that much of what Obama is doing today can be abolished in 2012. The reason Obama is pushing so hard to get everything on his agenda implemented NOW, is his hope that these things will be too far along, or too firmly entrenched, that they cannot be undone. A good start to ending the madness will occur with the elections of 2010.

By the way, 2010 looks a whole lot brighter for the GOP right now. For those Rinos who voted for this, know that you're on our list. You will never get another dime from our party or any other support. You are effectively dead to the party. -

Take a vow! Write down the names of your congressmen and senators who voted for the stimulus and bailout bills, and now this major tax on the people. Place the names on your refrigerator door. Like a prayer, denounce them every time you go to the refrigerator. VOTE THEM OUT at the next election. Tell your family, neighbors, friends to do the same.

I can't believe the ignorance of the people in this country. The chicken little scaremongers say CO2 instead of carbon dioxide as it seems to frighten the sheeple. CO2 is carbon dioxide!!! It's not a pollutant. It's necessary for life on Earth. Plants need carbon dioxide to create food so that animals can live.
Reply
The scam is the claim that carbon dioxide (CO2) causes temperature changes. There is a definite correlation between temperature and carbon dioxide, except that carbon dioxide levels LAG the temperature, often by 200 to 400 years.
Carbon dioxide levels cannot cause global temperature changes. Temperature changes cause carbon dioxide changes. Our vast oceans absorb carbon dioxide when the temperature cools and release carbon dioxide when the temperature warms. The bubbles in your soda are carbon dioxide.
The IPCC report is based on computer models, not science. Science says the Earth was warmer and cooler in the past. We're still warming, slowly and gradually, from the last ice age (the little ice age of 200 years ago).
The Earth' temperature has been level and cooling for ten years. The computer models didn't predict that, nor can they predict past events.
The AGW proponents are interested in the billions of dollars that governments are shelling out every year to study the "problem." They're all interested in selling this scam or they're out of a job. The governments love it because they're found a new way to fleece the sheeple. -

My Fellow Americans: Has Obama scared the waste material out of you people with his Infomercial? Good news before everyone keels over from CO2 poisoning I hear that Mercury is going to Collide with earth in about 3 billion years. Our Worries are over.
Reply
I was wondering about the fact that after we take our big hazardous material Vac out and suck up ever little morsel of this evil pollutant out of the atmosphere, what will happen to all the trees and shrubs? Well, I guess they will die, right? Now that seems like it might cause a little problem as well. Doesn't the Trees and Shrubs put out the Oxygen we breath? Will we be able to live without Oxygen? I think not. So what do we do then? Pay still more taxes to pump Oxygen back into the atmosphere? I guess I better let the Scientist decide on that one if I dare.

As a kid, all the painted surfaces contained lead, including the pencils I chewed on. There was lead in all gasolines except for Amoco. I drank water out of the garden hose, rode in cars without seatbelts, stayed in the house when both mom and dad worked, rode my bicycle without a helmet, used codeine in cough syrup when I had a persistent cough, survived the flu and other ailments without antibiotics, laying in the sun helped cure illnesses (vitamin D) and there's more.

Do-gooders wanted to ban wine in the 1980s. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, pollution was causing global cooling and we were told that our selfishness in driving automobiles had to be ended. Now we have a new scare almost every week.
People laughed more and weren't as afraid as they are today.
