Statism is what we're fighting against. Fascism and Socialism are both Statist ideologies with different points of emphasis.
Reply
They're both systems where the government has overwhelming control of the different sectors of the economy and society, though. -

When Government and Corporatism develop an incestuous relationship, the people suffer, that is all except the Elite.
Reply
The weirdest thing though is that a good number of those people will choose to defend the Elite even as the Elite rake them over the coals.
The question is why do they continue the support?
A good current example is the hard core Republican faithful. I'm speaking of the rank and file. There is a hardcore segment that defends the most vile Administration in our history seemingly for the only reason that the Administration was Republican. -

"One of the ways that the new statist intellectuals did their work was to change the meaning of old labels, and therefore to manipulate in the minds of the public the emotional connotations attached to such labels" ...

"In all societies, public opinion is determined by the intellectual classes, the opinion moulders of society. For most people neither originate nor disseminate ideas and concepts; on the contrary, they tend to adopt those ideas promulgated by the professional intellectual classes, the professional dealers in ideas"-

Well said tadair. And I would think that the reason they adopt those ideas is the Mainstream Media. Anybody remember that the Bush Administration hired Iraqi people to report on the greatness and progress of the "Liberation"?
Reply
And the Bush Administration also hired syndicated reporters to propagandize and spin stories that would go out to the Mainstream Media.
With the 24/7 newsbeat a story to support the Administration might be repeated so often and with such conviction that a majority of the people would be convinced of the truth of the news, before anyone could mount a challenge to those words.. Do you remember that?
And finally as a proof recall that by the time the U S invaded Iraq 68% of the people of America believed that Iraq was complicit in the 9/11 attack! Does everyone remember that?
And as a current reminder - the Republicans are right now trying to cconvince the American public that everything financially wrong about our economy is due to the Obama Administration, have you noticed?
