Hate to say I am agreeing with you because nothing in this article mentioned Obama as the problem. Admehnijad screwed it up and he is looking for a third party to blame and Obama is smart enough to stay out of the game. The best thing we can do is let them sort it out and not step in to the dispute. They want nothing better than to blame us for the problem and so far we are not buying in.

"Iranians are peace-loving people. We do not hate the world or Israel or America. We are everybody's friend, but unfortunately the state media has been drawing such a black pictures of Iran in the world that everybody thinks we are a bunch of Islamic fanatics.
What the authorities say only represent their frame of mind and not that of the people of Iran
Eighty per cent of the people I know do not even practice their faith. We are just born Muslims. We are not terrorists and what the authorities say only represents their frame of mind and not that of the people of Iran. Ahmadinejad and people like him do not represent Iran. They only represent the people who have appointed them." -

But of course! How would you explain the results of the last Iranian elections then? or the results of elections before the last? or the elections before those?
If the authorities DID NOT represent the 'frame of mind' of the Iranian PEOPLE then PEOPLE would not elect them time after time. It's that simple.
> Ahmadinejad and people like him do not represent Iran. They only represent the people who have appointed them.
The people who have appointed (elected) them are the majority of Iranians. If it was not the case Ahmadinejad would not be elected.-

Reply
Each and every political leader is elected (IF he is elected at all) on some promises. In most, or even ALL cases, these promises are not fully delivered.
Being a democratic theocracy (or a theocratic democracy) Iran is unique and its democracy is limited by the ruling Islamic authorities. Among other things, these authorities select the few allowed candidates for public posts. Ahmadinejad was the favorite one.
Yes, many Iranians did not like the results of their elections. This, however, is not a valid proof that the election results were somehow falsified.

Obviously you have never heard of ju-jisu, judo, or Sun Tse's art of war. Sometimes it is better to let an opponent get over confident and over extend. W would always fall for it. Bin Ladin tricked W like a bull and a matador and W got played because he got mad. Now Iran needs a bull to over react but Obama is waiting for Adminijad to make the first dumb move and then counter. Being a firm but very intelligent leader who can trick his opponent to make a mistake and take advantage of it pays off.

No, it is called the Roosevelt strategy. "Walk softly but carry a big stick". You don't give public opportunities to people like Adminnijad who want an exchange of words to bolster their status like a W saying bring it on or vowing a new crusade until quickly his advisors told him to shut the hell up and never mention the word "crusades"again because all that would do is bolster the extreme elements of the muslim population. Don't put people in situations where they have to get tough to save face. If it comes time for something like sneak attacking a reactor you don't threaten them with it. You just do it and be done before they know whats going on. Bush Sr. did a good job in gulf war one when it came time to force and he did it. Force was absolutely justified to kick Iraq out of Kuwait. That is not in any way a Chamberlin policy. W did the worst in gulf war 2 where it was all about talking crap and putting Saddamn in an impossible place. Saddamn had no worthwhile military but he had to talk tough and pretend he did have a military capability because if he didn't the neighboring nations would run him over. As a result we wasted a gigantic sum of money taking out someone who was not a threat to anyone and left the situation far worse than when we started.

True, kindness to the "wicked" is a sign of weakness. Only time a wicked person uses kindness is as a strategy. I don't trust Taliban, Alqeada, nor Ahmadinejad. I get very uneasy with U.S. entering into agreements with them. Can they forgive and forget the reasons why they are at war with America, America's interests?

It is obvious in this dayand time that everything is broken down to black or white, republican or democrat, Clinton or Bush, Bush or Obama, or majority or minority, but the underlying problem is that we always blame someone else for things that are happening..Ask yourself as a person, who can we learn to work with anyone else when we a a nation stays divided. We need each other and those who don't think so are foolish. The US is a great nation only because of our unity. We need not try to be leaders for the whole world, but we need to lead ourselves, and when others see the kindness and prosperity and growth of us all they will began to see that they missed something along the way.....Have we missed it?

And "buckwheat" as you call him, has a better grasp of international issues than Bush did. He knows you can't just preen to other countries and feed on their hatred of you. To the "leaders" of Iran this is bigger than Bush, Obama or any other president for that matter. Sadly, as is, in many nations of this world, the governments are not a true "representation" of the people that they govern. The issue the Iranian gov't has towards the west i simple ideology, and unless the west is willing to convert to and agree with the iranian gov'ts version of what the world should be then they will always find these little things to puff their chests out at. The problem is that they see the foundation crumbling around them, and they are trying to divert the attention back to the americans, and the british while they attempt to shore up the foundations without anyone knowing. The thing is they dont have the population behind them as they did thirty years ago. Iranian society has changed drastically. And guess who the Iranian gov't is blaming for this, THE BIG BAD WEST. the only way that a U.S. Iran diplomatic relaionship will flower, is if the people of Iran overthrow the gov't and set up a pro-western gov't, which as we have seen before isn't a guaranteed outcome. But until this happens, we can cancel any hopes of improving relations with Iran, because there will always be some small insignificant issue that they will exaggerate in order keep themselves in power and preserving the theocracy in a nation that has become more secular than it would like to admit

Western media just make people to believe that street protest will bring changes. Just because a million or two come to the street to protest won't change anything at all, we have seen all around the world when America invaded Iraq and Afghanistan, it has changed nothing. The occupation and oppression still continue in this countries. Afghanistan election is going to be held under the military occupation and the Western world wants the Muslim to believe this elections are going to be free and fair and it is Democratic. Considering this Iranian election is 100 times better than these kind of elections. Even if Iran conducts another election and if Ahamed Nijard wins again it will not be accepted because the Israel is obsessed with destroying Iran because it is paranoid. Iranian election was free and fair until proven otherwise. It is the opposition and the Zionist media that are misleading the Iranian opposition voters. If Ahmaed Nijard wants to bring a street protest against opposition he could do it as well but the Right Wing media will not highlight it as they did it for the opposition. The Iranians should look at the elections in Iraq and Afghanistan where elections are held under the barrel of the gun and they say it is free and fair. The Iranian voters also take note of election that took place in Palestine that brought Hamas to power but what happened, did the West help Hamas? They won't because Hamas doesn't play ball with them. So entire election process to elect a representative is a big fraud. What happened to the election in Algeria that Islamic party won? America doesn't support Democratic elections but supports its own economic and political interest around the world. If you are a puppet of America, you can even be a dictator. Who cares who wins?

in the obama election, a) they were using electronic voting machines so results were known almost immediately, as opposed to the paper ballots in Iran which must be counted by hand. b) the polls were closed in enough states to clinch the electoral college when the press projected him the winner. and c) that was only a projected winner by the press, he was not declared the winner by the government until all the polls were closed and ratified the next day. and d) he was not technically the legitimate president-elect until the electoral college said so, by which time all the election results had been double checked by the state election committees.

Now a brain teaser - Why didn't the Dems press more aggressively for recounts? Kerry PROMISED he would demand recounts if there were shenanigans, and then caved completely.
Here in New Mexico, there was outrageous voter disenfranchisement, particularly on the reservations and in rural areas. Both tend to be overwhelmingly democratic. But Kerry did not press for a recount. Instead, it was Cobb, the Green, and Bednarek, the Libertarian, who sought the recount, and it was DEMOCRAT Bill Richardson and a DEMOCRAT SoS that first obstructed the recount and then deleted the data from the voting machines so there could be no recount.
Now why would two Dems screw their own people in order to help Bush get reelected? [hint - Richardson got to run for prez and would have likely been our new Secretary of State had he not shot himself in the foot with a corruption scandal. Ms. Gurule-Giron got a cushy Washington post not long after.]

Don't get me wrong, I don't support Ahmadinejad winning, I think his election was a sham. If he won fair and square, then he won fair and square. The fact is, he probably didn't. We wouldn't like it if Mexico came up and said "Um....yeah, we don't like that you elected McCain there....Palin scares us.... so we're going to goto war with you until you elect Obama" If McCain had won can you imagine the outrage from EVERYONE if that happened? If he won without enough fradulent votes being cast to change the winner then yes, he won fair and square. I'm saying "without enough" instead of "without any" because I think we can safely assume fraudulent votes were cast and would have been no matter what. Saddam most likely won fair and square, I didn't read the reports from that time, last time he was in power, I was only 15, I didn't pay attention to politics then. You do not goto war just to overthrow someone you don't like unless they declare war on you first. If they're not doing anything, don't go after them. Recently America had become a massive bully... did you hear when Mexico wanted to refuse to buy some of our goods that were tainted about three months ago we were going to threaten them with sanctions and trade restrictions to punish them for not buying from us? And that "all options were on the table" even. We could have declared war on Mexico for not BUYING something from us. Am I the only person who finds that asinine? "You're going to buy what I have to sell or I'm going to kill millions of your people until you do!" THAT'S TERRORISM!

All I have to say to you is that if he wants to destroy the America Bush and his merry band of fools created, I hope he brings it to it's knees and rebuilds it from the ground up, like it was on January 19th, 2000. A budget surplus, no war, low unemployment, with some changes. Although technically as "Christians" you aren't supposed to hate ANYBODY. You have no right to talk about bravery when you yourself have NONE. Who are you to criticize Obama when you yourself are hiding in your home, running away. "My fellow Americans" you act like we're your comrades, your buddies, your friends. Bush bent this country over his knee and raped it of everything, it takes more than five months to fix that sort of ****.
I don't live off of welfare, I have a sneaking suspicion however, that you do and you're projecting again.
"Canadian Illegal immigrant during Viet Nam" First off you moron, it's Vietnam, one word, not two, respect the country. SECOND off, I'm against Vietnam and what we did there so there'd be no guilt to running off to Canada for me. Had McCain won 2008 I'd have renounced my citizenship to this country and left for Canada because this would no longer be America. Third and perhaps most important? I'M GODDAMN ONLY TWENTY YEARS OLD, I wasn't even ALIVE during Vietnam you dumbass. And if I was I'm fairly sure my opinions would be exactly the same.
Let me reiterate: You are not a Real American, you hide behind other real Americans and project your feelings to try to compensate for your weakness. You put on stilts and act like a big man when really you're nothing but a pathetic child who never grew up like the rest of us. Leave the echo chamber and get a goddamn clue, it's embarassing. You are a coward, and nothing more.

You're so right jakesguile ... icantwait is NOT a real American.
Reply
This person is clearly one who hates America.
He tries to portray that hatred with a positive spin.
But of course, this is a coward's device.
icantwait's voice is a lonely echo of the embittered, self-loathing hater of democracy that stirs in their own anger for decade upon decade ... finally exploding like James von Brun.

My Fellow American: Commy two, You and Jaksquille ought to start a knitting class together because you both live off the Gossip that your President sends you each week to recite while responding to logic intellectual conversation. How much does he pay you low lives? Maybe the unemployed can get one of his jobs that doesn't exist. I know you must have had connections in order for you two to get in on the ground floor of trashing America. You might even be able to hold hands during your free time. The Real American

You poor pathetic Talibanista ... you ought to be careful of that Kool-Aid you drink from the fountain of FOX.
Your lunatic ravings in which you wish for a Fascist state may be in Vogue right now ... but that's only because you American Haters are very loud.
Look, I believe America is open to all voices ... even your America Hating voice ... and I don't care if you ARE a member of Stormfront ... I will defend your right to voice hatred for our nation.
Why?
Because I believe in Democracy. Even though ... I realize that if you and your ilk ever gained the power you crave ... you would ELIMINATE democracy ... and ELIMINATE free speech ...
And believe this, icantwait ... while I personally consider your hatred for this nation evidence that you are a total scum-bag ... I will ALWAYS defend your right to be that scum-bag that you are.
Signed,
The REAL, Real American. -

My Fellow Americans: The Plain and Simple of it all is this. The President that Acorn rigged and helped get elected is a Coward. His supporters are Cowards. His Policies are Cowardly. His Administration is Cowardly. That is it, the Plain and Simple.
I don't think that he is a coward but he is being held hostage by the Neocons and Zionists where he cannot do what he was expected by the people of the US who voted for him.

"But on Friday, he hailed the demonstrators in Iran and condemned the violence against them."
Reply
Oddly, Obama was silent when demonstraters were getting beaten and arrested at the Democratic Convention in Denver when he was in attendance.
I guess it's only wrong when it happens in Iran. -

I propose a toast to America. ( raising my coffee cup) Where people can call the leaders of foreign countries runts and our own president a coward. Where we can throw tea parties in defiance of taxes and the women can wear burkas if they want but don't have to.

Last week, Ahmadinejad turned from being an Islamic revolutionary to being the front-man for a power-entrenched, hard-line regime. He seems like a ridiculous puppet, now, with his "pronouncements", and the positions he expressed in his previous letters to the US President have lost their legitimacy and become unbelievable. Iran needs leaders now, not sycophants.

Why do republicans hate America so much? How did they get so ignorant? The Iranian people have struggled against the "RELIGIOUS RIGHT WING " in their nation for decades. Liberals like me who don't watch fox have known this for as long. This didn't just start up a few months ago. Watch carefully because this is what happens when the far right takes power. I'm surprised you republicans aren't rooting for Amadinajad. He is exactly what Reagan and Bush are. Power hungry evil bastards. But to the republicans credit we liberals just sat still when bush stole two elections. Remember when Tom Delay and his buddies stopped the re-count in Florida? And when the state court ruled our votes should be counted Bush went to the right wing supreme COURT and STOPPED THE COUNT. DE ja vu indeed. some people are just to stupid to live in a democracy and others too meek. god bless Iran's resistance to the right wing.

You sound as if you are just now realizing that the Modern Republican's roots are in racism and bigotry.
Please ... you should know better.
While The Modern Republican has but two goals ...
1) Promoting a Welfare for the Wealthy Agenda
2) Spending as much money as possible on Military Contractors.
.
...
... anyone can tell you that The Modern Republican is a haven for barely repressed racists.
Didn't you watch the 2008 Republican Convention?

republicans hate America, hmmm that's a bit odd, oh I see later you mention how Bush stole the elections and ACORN had nothing to do with Obanus getting erected. Being investigated in 12 states for voter fraud says it all. Go back for some more Kool-Aid

Most Modern Republicans don't hate America.
Reply
Granted .. some do .. and therein lies your problem.
People like icantwait CLEARLY hate America ... and he's an advocate for Modern Republicanism.
So that is a problem for my friends who are Republicans ... as I myself used to be. But whenever I read Modern Republican's commentary ... such as icantwait's ... I am thankful for having left the Republican Party.
By and large, most Republicans I know lament the current state of 'Religiousity' that surrounds the party.
Most of my Republican friends lament the intolerance and audacious moral hypocrisy.

Plus ... the Mainstream Media certainly makes it seem as though they hate Obama with a hatred that is all out of proportion to merely 'disagreeing with one's politics'.
FOX alone has anti-Obama rhetoric being broadcast 24/7 ... and like him or not ... Obama is the President of the United States.
So ... for many ... it DOES APPEAR like y'all hate America.

Considering that the Fox Network is an unabashed speaking voice for the GOP and right-wing America, I don't think that the "mainstream" goes far enough in defining the GOP stance. -

I am not an Obama fan but i think he handled this the correct way he didnt get involved but he thought out exactly what he would say and than came out with a statement , now Obama see's what a vermin creep Ahmadinejad and that he can not deal with a man who hates the USA, what i believe Obama was able to do was when he went on this world trip apologizing for us which i thought was disgusting on our presidents part but what he did was he gave all these speaches that gave these young people the guts to stand up and say no more repression
Reply
now Obama has to let these young people in iran know we will back them if they do not turn this 3rd world gross country into a free country -

They stopped the count because Al Gore's attempts at stealing the 2000 elections had turned into a farce. Hell,it was proven later by even the left wing papers that Bush actually won. But you freaks on the left would never accept it.

Now Al Gore has found a way to steal millions from the people with cap and trade. Global Warming...the new version of Druidism...and about as relevant. -

All of you should stop and pay attention to what is really going on. Over the course of the last 60 years we have supplied billions if not trillions of dollars in weapons, food and technology to the government's of Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan, (as they were at war with each other during different periods of time) in the "Best Interests of America". Only to have our own weapons turned against us and our own people killed by these un-appreciative, savages that control these 3rd world countries. What have we accomplished in the middle east since the 1960's, can anybody really answer that? I doubt it. I say keep all of our money, food, resources and everything we have fought to hold onto, here at home in America. Close the damn borders and fix our country. You don't see them coming to us, with outstreched arms and open pocket books, in our hour of need. Rather, they blame us for everything and we go along with the program not wantng to rock to boat, give them what they want and it will all be ok. Well screw that, keep what we have, the rest of the world is on their own. Let them come crawling back when their society is in ruins and utter kaos. "WE DO NOT NEED THEM"!

Bravo! Ugly truth. I like it. I just know you are going to turn out to be some kind of kook rand, but I don't care. I'm giving you a POS for this one. I don't necessarily agree with all of your solution, but it would allow us to devote all our attention to fixing the problems here. That would certainly help, but I don't think what you would like to see happen ever could. In case you hadn't noticed, one thing Americans LOVE is to have their nose in other peoples' business. It's our National Weakness, and while not as bad as genocide or beating the women, it has proven to be pretty friggin' annoying to most of the world. Thanks for making your first post worthwhile. Keep 'em coming.
