It seems to me that tin pot dictators use the bogeyman (USA) to justify a military build up or take over. Such as Iran is blaming the U.S. for a population which is tired of autocratic and theocratic rule.

One thing is certain, although the government has the guns, the people know the truth. Venezuelans should be much more worried about Chavez than the United States. Like wise the government in Iran will ultimately give way to a truly democratic nation. -

There are 55 Muslim countries in the world. Not one is a true democracy. Each one practices degradation of women and non Muslims, making them second class citizens. Almost half, in one way or another, support or give sanctuary to terrorists. 15 were given land illegally by the British after WWI. That must mean that Muslim countries are a threat to the entire humanity because they support terror and occupation, by your definition.

Fear is a tremendous motivator and EVERY leader uses it.
Democrats typically use Fear to ensure continuation of Social Security.
Republicans use Fear to spend money on the military ... and to repress individual liberty.

Chavez has learned to use the same tactics on his people that have been foisted upon the American people by US governments. Fear of Iran getting nuclear weapons or fear of Korea getting nuclear weapons keep getting used to continue our never ending military buildup. In Chavez's case, he keeps his military stronger and at his control.

You really haven't been keeping up with the news in the last few years, have you? North Korea, with nuclear weapons, is a threat and we should fear it. Didn't Kim Sung IL break the cease fire with South Korea and recently threaten the US with a missile strike? Historically, the US is not a colonial power. Name one country that they took by force and continue to rule. Puerto Rico is a protectorate, the US Virgin Islands were purchased outright. Japan, the Phillipines, and Germany were allowed to maintain a government of their own while the US pulled out of their nations. Please tell us all about how the American government has duped it's people. You and the rest of your bleeding heart liberals would hate to live in a world where the US practiced isolationism. Big power indifference fostered both WWI and WWII. It would foster WWIII as well, if left in your hands. Those who don't learn from history are doomed to repeat it. The US isn't perfect, but it's the only real sense of security that most of the world relies on, believe it or not.

In case the news didn't reach your cave, North Korea acquired nuclear weapons quite some time ago, and is now threatening the United States with them. That would qualify as a justified "FEAR", wouldn't you agree?
Iran, being a major trading partner of North Korea, is no doubt receiving much valuable assistance for their nuclear devises(s) and delivery systems, much like the Syrian-North Korean Nuclear Rat's Nest the Israelis so kindly took care of for us. This was another justified FEAR.
As for: "...continue our never ending military buildup"
"Eternal vigilance is the price of Liberty." And that "vigilance" very much includes keeping our Military as up to date as possible. Its funding every two years is an enumerated Power of Congress, found in Article 1, Section 8 of Our Constitution. It is the DUTY of Congress to see to it that our Military has everything it requires to defend America.
"FEAR" sometimes is a healthy thing, as in the cases cited above, for it can spur a prudent entity to action; an action that may lead to SURVIVAL. Such are the lessons of Nature and History.

What do you know of US history. You'd be speaking German now if it weren't for the US. This country saved the world twice in one century from certain disaster and will continue to do it again if needed. Name one country in Europe that has the abilities that the US has to make you and much of the rest of the world as safe as it is. You talk about US history, why don't you learn something from it!!! The US isn't perfect, but the rest of the world wouldn't be enjoying any freedom without her, and that is a historical fact.

Tell him to feel free to have China and Russia defend them..Either isn't stupid enough to defend that idiot.. I truly doubt it because every venezolano/venezolana I have talked to have nothing to have nothing good to say about Chavez. Further to my post, would they prefer living under those regimes wherein there is no freedome of: speech; press; religion; assembly. Wherein travelling, even around their country, has to have permission by the government, more so if travelling abroad. This country, U.S.A. which they denounce and demonize as the No.1 supporter of terrorism, gives them greater freedom than all those countries I mentioned combined.
