Comments for Palin would be the winkin' and blinkin' divisive GOP candidate - Colorado Independent »
Posted By gamahuche 5 months, 2 weeks ago in Political OpinionThe results of a Pew survey on the favorability of leading Republicans, published Wednesday suggest that Sarah Palin remains a divisive figure. Among the GOP base, though, there' s only love for Palin. She is the star. Which means that if the nation was holding a Republican primary today, Palin would be the winkin' and blinkin' divisive GOP candidate for president! Palin- Penry 2010, everybody!

This is a flimsy story but if its a real reading of the current imagination of the GOP its a marvellous example of out-of-touch thinking.

If I were a bookie I'd be salivating over the punters who would throw their money away on such a sure-fire loser..
The intelligent power-mongers of the GOP wouldn't touch her with a bargepole.
Her only support woud be from the hard-core, angry brainless segment of one party - with zero crossover from the democrats.-

Thanks to the Bush administration, the one thing this country has been starved for is to once again be taken seriously on the World stage. Accept for a small, hard-headed crowd of neocons who can't stand the thought of being proved wrong, it seems most conservatives see Palin's candidacy for what it was...a lame attempt to re-brand the GOP at the last possible minute as the youthful and progressive party...and this failed miserably, as.Palin is merely self-absorbed and except for being able to see Russia from her house, dangerously uninformed and unworldly.
Over the next few years, though she'll have her nose buried in books on her long airplane trips overseas, she lacks the knowledge, character and genuine intentions to ever be taken seriously.

Palin is preparing for a great moment that will never come.
Just imagine: across the northern stream are all those poor frightened Russians shivering in their black market muckaluks worrying about Sarah Palin. Could she become the next female Bush Czar? These are the nuts and bolts of what make nightmares profitable.
Come on! If this nation would even entertain a candidate like Sarah Palin for the presidency after having had eight years of her male counterpart, an incompetent dimwitted cheerleader who accepted the nefarious handling of master puppet conductor Dick Cheney, we might as well pack up the donkeys and elephants now and move off into the ruins of an empire lost.-

If Sarah wanted a national job she should have started preparing long ago. You don't learn the history of the world and the workings of the American system from crib notes. Her world view is really quite limited as like GW she hasn't often been outside of the US. If we didn't learn anything else from Bush we should have learned the importance of the awareness of other cultures.
Reply
Am I afraid of Sarah Palin? No. I am somewhat concerned that Americans could make such a choice out of desperation if things got really bad (we aren't even close right now). The neocons have lined up behind her. This is because she is an empty vessel who would require their input. She doesn't have the knowledge to formulate a foreign policy. The neocons are her default setting.
Will she resurrect "Redneck Woman" as her theme. That alone should make her unelectable. There are plenty of rednecks in this country, thankfully nowhere near enough to elect a national candidate. We should refer to them as a the party of regression.

If this is the most popular candidate, the Republican party can come up with,Obama should win a second term by a landslide. However,I feel it unlikely she would win the Republican nomination. As Gamahache says,"she has zero crossover appeal from democrats".She also has a very flimsy grasp of policy and issues.

We're not afraid of her...at least not in the way that would feed your small-minded idea of what makes one powerful. Instead, we're dismayed by the fact that there are numbers large enough - though thankfully dwindling - to have bought into such nonsense, all in the name of winning an election at any cost.

I'm not sure enough people in the GOP have a grasp on reality not to nominate the wicked witch of Wasilla. Name recognition being the marketing ploy it is, combined with a serious lack of comprehension of the post cold war world, along with the insistence to look to the past for answers make a moronic candidate likely. Frankly the republican party's most fearsome enemy is their own ignorant "base" who insist on idiocy before supporting a candidate.

The only thing that bothers me is the nastiness that she carries in her wake.
Pleads abused when it suits her but didn't baulk at dishing out hardcore abusive racist stuff at Republican rallies during the campaign.
To me she is a deeply flawed human being - and it was jsimply astounding to me that McCain allowed her to be put on his ticket.
Presumably to "sex-it-up" or something gross ike that - and I assume that someone leaned heavily on him.

I seem to remember, vaguely, that there have already been a couple of extremely unmemorable attempts by other brave wannabes to cast their hats into the ring, Bobby Jindal perhaps - sort of rings a cracked bell - but they got well and truly stomped on for their pains, even by their own party..

I can understand the schism in the GOP, though. Half would leave to form other parties, and the other half would think it over while they brush their tooth.
I think people will vote for some real "change" next time, though. The kind of "flush it" twice to make sure it doesn't come back kind. -

Jon Huntsman (Gov. of Utah) would make a more viable candidate against Obama. His business pedigree and political experience are equal if not better than Palin's and as far as I can tell, he's a rock solid family man. Unfortunately for him, any moderate Republican will be labeled a RINO by the far right power base.

Where are all the jobs, the economy still sucks, gas prices are back to 3$ per gallon and with cap and trade we will loose more jobs. You people should be ashamed of yourselves for destroying the fabric of this country. When there are no more rich people to tax who will you come after next.

You don't even have your own arguments right do you? Yall said 88k was not reach. Yall said 88k needed free health care for their kids under Schip because 88k could not afford to buy their kids health care. Now YALL are saying that 100k IS rich and can afford to be taxed more than they currently are. Yall are the ones who think the difference between poverty and being uber rich is 12k. That's why YALL are idiots.

I think Tangy you better take a deep breath and re-read your post and then what I posted. When Bush said 88K was rich YOU agreed, now that Obama says 100K is rich you seem to think its not enough.
