Vaclav Havel, the dissident playwright and the first Czechoslovak President after the fall of Communism has said said Central Europe should reject Russian energy supplies rather than be “blackmailed” by the government in Moscow.

    Its quite surprising to see ex-President Havel stepping up in respect of such an activre mainstream political topic. Definitely it seems to indicate his beter state of physical well-being, after he was on the danger-list last winter. Otherwise, in general, he has been playing a much more back-room role politically since his own Presidenial term ended and focussing on his particular interests, such as his support for the Dalai Lama.

      Russia has Europe by the energy short hairs. An anti-west, nuclear-armed Iranian regime sitting astride the hydrocarbon flow from the Middle East serves to strengthen Russia's grip.

      Is there any wonder why Russia has recognized Mr. Ahmadinejad as the election winner and blocked a Group of Eight meeting from even condemning the Iranian government's violence? "Isolating Iran is the wrong approach," said Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, repeating his standard line.
