Obama, They Want You to Fail »
Posted By jovial 4 months, 1 week ago in Political OpinionFor almost as long as I've been in Washington (I arrived for the Associated Press in 1977) it has worked the other way. Even when the Republicans appear to be on the defensive and outnumbered, they band together and vote as a bloc, while Democrats bend over backwards to be 'bipartisan.'

All the grandstanding and bending over backwards for a couple of Senate votes. Mr. Obama, I hope you read this. They want you to fail. If you fail, they win. Then they will quickly install another neocon into office and undo everything you ever hoped to have accomplished or have gotten accomplished in you Presidency.

If a program some people believe will harm the country very badly then we should wish for that to be done according to you. That is the heart of the wish to fail.
If the president only does things that help the country and the ones that hurt it are stopped, then that is where the wish to succeed comes from.
Liberals that truly spoke about the horrid Bush deficit are remaining silent over the horrendous Obama deficit. $1.8 trillion and counting.
Taxing businesses hurts the business and what is Obama doing in this recession. Cap and trade is a killer tax for EVERYBODY especially the poor. This after he promised no new taxes on the poor and middle class. Obama Lied.

this is a far more eloquent restatement of Bill Maher's point. the republicans don't care if the dems, or anyone, like them.. they just jam through their goals when they are in power. (which is not why they lost power, they lost power because of the details and failures of their goals)
meanwhile the dems don't have the ball s to even bluff the point. thus proving the old repub criticism that the dems are weak.
control of the house and senate, and a majority support in the polls. and still can't get the job done. btches. -

they aren't weak. that implies that they don't have strength in numbers or ideals. what they don't have is one coherent idea beyond knowing that they want to be in power.
Reply
that isn't to say that they DO want a universal health care system and a peace economy and full employment and (fill in the blank), etc, etc, etc. and all those great ideas.
fantastic! but they have no worldly idea how to get there.
and this woe-is-me idea that the republicans 'want' Obama to fail is nothing but self-serving whining. if things don't pan out the way the democrats 'want,' they have a ready-made boogeyman to blame.
its the politics of pre-planned failure.
i, for one, don't want Obama to fail. i want him to be wildly successful, but he's not going to succeed when his minions bring forth half baked ideas that promise economic destruction. only the blindly supportive can get behind that.
i like his can-do attitude. i'm non-plussed by his execution. but that's me and to be fair, he's new at this. truthy calls them beeches (of the republicans, evidently). i call them rudderless.
frankly, i'm also waiting for this new era of politics where the old ways are thrown by the wayside. all i can see, so far, is the question why the democrats aren't ramming stuff down the republican's throats. THAT defines failure. and i'm not even talking bipartisnaship. i'm talking about a renewed democratic party that stands for something besides trampling the other side and their own constituents.-

Well, when we ended up with a major depression in the 1930s after the GOP allowed the same kind of corruption scams as the Bush administation in the recent past, it took a couple of years before the Dems coalesced around the ways to deal with the fiasco. Given that the bushies allowed the creation fo "funny money" at levels that are many times the total GDP of the whole world. it may take awhile this time too.

Obama should NOT let himself be suckered into continuing the directions of the "financial oligarchs" started by Paulson and Bush, but clean out all the ****. -

It's not whining, it is true. I know it's true by the amount of sinks I am getting on this story. I really struck a nerve. The Republicans in this country want Obama to fail. It's there strategy for regaining the Whitehouse. They have thwarted every policy so far coming from this President. He's either had to water the policy down to the point where it's ineffectual or suffer a stalemate everytime. The Republicans have hired the "swiftboaters for truth" to help them on their campaign of misinformation. The Democratic President actually thinks he's making progress, but in reality is just spinning his wheels. He thinks the Republicans will join him around the campfire. What he doesn't realize is that they hate everything he stands for, and they will continue their campaign of sabotage until the desired result is achieved.

--LMAO. Sure, beavy. Clearly cons think Obama and the Democrats are incompetent and can't achieve anything. Why else would you people rush out and buy guns, become domestic terrorists and go on murder sprees, and have FOX sponsored white supremacist festivals masquerading as "grass roots movements"?

--Ok...This will probably sound like an odd question but remind us again why we should trust or respect the opinions of those who supported Bush and a rubberstamping GOP for 8 years? Are you serious? You're a twenty percenter, beavy. Come on...You mock Democrats for having their own minds and opinions and refusing to be lemmings who always vote in lockstep. Yet we both know the GOP is out of control (in more ways than one) and a lot smaller than it was 8 years ago *because* Republicans can almost always be counted on to OBSTRUCT (whether it's rubberstamping Bush's destructive agenda or mindlessly voting in lockstep against Obama's). I hate to break it to you, beavy but inexplicably supporting a party whose claim to fame is its ability to coalesce around the idea of "no" (and to excuse their colleagues when they behave like total slvts-- while condemning others for the very behavior in which they engage) doesn't qualify you as an authority on coherent ideas. But nice try. ;-P

"this is rich coming from the libs who did everything they could to impede President Bush and the and to insure defeat of the troops and failure in Iraq......"
Reply
--Um...Do you understand the concept of checks and balances AT ALL? It was their JOB to keep Bush and the GOP (and themselves as well, if necessary) in check. But what you consfail to comprehend is that we don't elect leaders to pursue their own agendas. We elect them to pursue their country's agenda. Cons are unbelievably misguided and, in your delusional thinking, impeding Bush's agenda was worse than Bush's impeding America's agenda. Or did you forget that The GOP got kicked out of power and is now shrinking by the day because Republicans arrogantly and recklessly pursued goals the majority of Americans opposed and routinely blocked legislation supported by the majority of America? And you've continued this approach since Obama got elected. That's not checks and balances. That's called OBSTRUCTIONISM. See the distinction, pc?

Keep it up and maybe there will be a ground swell like you saw under Clinton. The Democrats said that the Republican party was dead when Clinton was elected. Democrats are their own worst enemy.

Sandmonster also got banned too... for the 3rd time that I know.
Reply
Sandmonster epitomized the nature of the right wing spinhead monsters on Propeller. They are like the Hydra, also called the serpent of Lerna, which was a beast with the body of a hound and 100 serpentine heads.
As if this weren't bad enough, it also had poisonous breath and it was so hideous that it caused most people to die of fear from simply seeing it. One of Hercules' great tasks was to kill this monster.
When Hercules started to fight it, he discovered that every time he cut off one of the heads, three grew back in place of it. Seeing this was getting him nowhere, he had his charioteer, Iolus, burn the stump after each time he cut off a head, which prevented the unfortunate regeneration.
The last head was immortal, however, so after cutting it off, they trapped it under a rock. ONce that rock is removed, the monster begins growing back its serpintine heads... it is at this point that we began to see all these new "sock pupppets".
POint of story; be not the one to cast the first rock as you have no idea what lies beneath it. -

Unfortunately for the American public, Obama has already failed those who voted him in expecting change for the good. These are the very people who made it possible for him to say "I won".
Reply
With his last signing statement declaring that if he thinks Laws and the Constitution are going to get in his way, he will ignore those restraints, let the people be forewarned, we now have the new Bush in office.
I think it is time to form an "Impeach Obama Movement". And I voted for him.
There are things that he has done that are not popular with everyone, but pulling the old Bush "I ain't gonna follow the law if I don't want to" should be a violently red flag to everyone, and we don't need to waste time getting him out.-

I will admit that he has carried forward more of the Bush agenda than I would have expected.
However, the tone in Washington has changed dramatically ... away from Moral Vacancy ... to one of Potential.
When did you ever have the sense that Bush created a sense of potential.
I only saw a sense of foreboding.

Do I really believe that democrats are wussies? No. I think republicans have gathered a whole lot of info on them, and use it for leverage. So what should democrats do? Gather a whole lot of info on CONS. Then you have a standoff, and the ruling party can do its thing.

yes, because the best solution for your opponent being corrupt is for you to be corrupt to. and if your opponent tortures people, then you should torture people to... or should we draw a line somewhere in our morality?

its not that we think people should always try to be good, its just that people can be mean but not hurtful. is that it?

I am not a Democrat, nor am I a Republican. I did vote for Obama because another session of Bush or Bush Redux would be stupid.
Reply
I had hopes for Obama. He made several promises. To my knowledge he hasn't kept any. He hasn't gotten rid of the Bush Directives, and he has opted to continue torture and unlimited incarceration without trial. He has continued every thing Bush did to take Constitutionally guaranteed freedoms away from the people.
We the people need to put a stop to such lawlessness. It is an impeachable offense. We don't want or need a Bush clone in office one day more than we have to.
Obama has shown that he is not the answer. He needs to go. -

Get the facts before you attack. Federal employees have a choice of a couple of insurance plans. Usually in early fall you'll see ads from the major insurance companies reminding federal employees that open enrollment period is coming. The employees have a short window of opportunity to choose the package that they prefer for coverage for the next year. The employee contributes to the cost of the coverage (like most employer provided plans). Obama's original suggestion for a public option plan was to roll it into these federal employee plans.

It's not the gravy that you suggest Klarissa.

Next time Ladies and Gentlemen of the House of Representatives let's have an bill, that has actually been written, to vote on.
Or we can do this, let's vote on no snow for the Winter, how about raising taxes on the amount of rubbish in a persons yard, here is one let's vote on this tax waterfall, no baseball games longer than 4 hours, and to wrap it up we must tax everyone that has a baby crying in the mall or in church. Oh, that's right no one goes to Church anymore, let's make it the Grocery store. In other words just make up things to vote on, no rules, no guidelines, no written pages, just vote. I guess that is what this political process is coming to and the Country as we knew it has been destroyed. The Real American -

My Fellow Americans: In case you missed it. It seems like everyone and every institution has there hand out for something. Unfortunately the money or service that has been generously provided never gets to the late bill or needed charity. This is the give me generation. It started will all those lazy drug attics at the Haight and Ashbury years ago. The "Any Spare Change People". Now, they are running the country with their love and peace but kill the babies philosophy.

You can't explain anything to them they know all the answers to rebut whatever you say that makes sense. You may want a strong defense for your country. To them that means you are a war monger. You may want to keep more of your hard earned money. To them that means you don't care about the needed. You may want your politicians to be truthful. To them that means only your party is untruthful.
Concentrating on the problems of this country and how to solve them is not on their agenda. They would rather sit around and ridicule a President that has been gone for Six Months. It seems they always have their head in the sand. They would rather have a President that is bent on destroying the People and the Country that put him in office.
The President really does not show any compassion for the American People, he ridicules our progress to other countries, he invents programs that will devastate our economic system, he does and says nothing when their is an emanate threat to our country.
He had the chance of a Lifetime being the President of the United States of America. He could have become something great, yet he choses to go down in history as a Despot that eventually will be put out of office. I don't know how but it will happen. He is just a fool. The Real American -
