Many factors go into decisions for transplants. Sadly, it can't be all about whos worst off in terms of severity or advanced stages of illness. Factors that are not controlled by anything but genetics and random things make the final call - blood type, antiboties in the blood... things like this make the final decision. Also, with organ transplants, things like lifestyle choices may come into play, ESPECIALLY with a liver or pancreatic surgery.

You are correct but it also has to do with the type of cancer. Jobs' cancer is the much slower form that can be effectively controlled with medicine and radiation to a point. I am confused as to why you would do a transplant though. In most cases, when you use the anti-rejection meds, you can cause the cancer to increase exponentially. That's why this is a very unusual treatment for pancreatic and liver cancer.

when I heard about Steve Jobs recieving a new liver it made me cringe. My faith in the ethics of medicine has gone out the window. He got that transplant based on who he is. Meanwhile Patrick Swayze and myself and thousands of others die slowly from either pancreatic cancer or liver cancer. I was diagnosed with colon cancer with metasis to the liver stage 4. No stage 5 in case your wondering. Myself and thousands of others are denied liver tranplants because the anti-rejection drugs can cause cancer to recur. Go figure!!
