Have the climate change deniers abandoned us during the heatwave? »

If a UK cold snap persuades climate sceptics that global warming isn't happening, then a heatwave must convince them that it is, writes George Monbiot.

Silly story. It is the average temperatures that count. The fact that the average temperature of earth and the monitor track is also significant.

Oh wow. A heat wave? OMG the world is coming to an end. I have never heard of or been part of a heat wave before. A Heat WaVE? A Heeeaaatttt Wwwaaaavvveeee???

I wonder where these people were last month when the Mideast were having a cold wave. I guess there is no global warming now because of ONE cold wave. I mean come on. The temperature should never change. The planet has always stayed the same temp for as long as the planet has existed right?

I guess the heat wave that melted all the glaciers BEFORE humans must have been started by aliens with their carbon producing flying saucers. How else does ice melt without humans?

It's been pretty hot here, the heat index gets into 110+, I have been here since the early 1970's and it is changing. Our rainy season and patterns, our storm intensities lightening, rain and hurricane...loss of tree canopies introduction of non native species has all caused dramatic changes.

The real "climate-change-deniers" are the ones who fail or refuse to see that "climate change" is a natural process that is constantly happening. They will not accept the fact that an average temperature taken might show a half degree difference, either warmer or cooler, from one taken 100 years ago. They totally deny that the climate has the ability to change and fluctuate like it has for the last billion years. Instead they say any change is caused simply by various forms of modern man-made pollution. Those who do reluctantly admit that climate can change just say "yes, but... ummm... we are um.. making it change faster!" Some researchers say that all the greenhouse gas "improvements" we make will barely make a difference of 0.05 degrees over the next hundred years, and that could (and probably will), be easily outstripped in either direction by the natural, constantly evolving climate change that so many deniers refuse to accept.

Global warming is a very profitable business. Just ask Al Gore. He was worth 2 million when he left office. Since he's become the spokesman for GW he now has close to 100 million dollars and is estimated to become a billionaire if the GW legislation kicks in.

All the while Big Al flies his hydrocarbon spewing jet everywhere, his house uses more that 20 times the amount of energy than what most of us do. But hey he has his offset, which doesn't reduce any carbon foot print one scintilla and you guys see him as a hero! What a gig the Flim Flam man has going.

          P. T. Barnum (carnival owner) said about a hundred years ago that there's a sucker born every minute. With today's population, it's probably about every 10 seconds.

Some people like to live in fear and guilt. Hence the popularity of horror movies and "the sky is falling" theories. And there are always those willing to prey upon those types of people.

Convince them they're in danger (diseases, asteroids colliding into the Earth, the planet will overheat or freeze, etc.) and then sell them the solution. Give them meaningless placebo answers (wear this rabbit foot to ward off bad luck, ask them for donations so the gods will help them, pay this extra tax and the planet will be saved, and so on) and they'll feel better.

This yahoo goes on about one season locally but fails to mention the fact that global temps have been flat or slightly lower over the last decade.
