When Ted Olson and David Boies filed federal suit against Proposition 8 on behalf of their clients, the case was newsworthy for two main reasons. The two lawyers at the helm famously opposed each other in Bush v. Gore, and most of the national LGBT organizations were quick to distance themselves from the case.

    The people of California deserve to have their rights protected equally for all. The justices of the California Supreme Court ruled that marriage is a right for the people to share and that said right belongs inherently to the people. As a fundamental right, the 14th Amendment to the US Constitution grants that the people cannot have their rights taken away without "due process." In other words, an election cannot be held to take away rights. Prop 8 must be overturned.
