How about some sort of cross of Morse code and Huffman encoding? With only 10 or so people to keep track of this might work better. I would think it would be hard to "sense" vibration variations more complicated than simple pulse and buzz (dot and line in morse), especially if you are like me and throw your phone in your cargo short pockets in the summer along with your keys and other stuff.
