Congressional Taxpayer-Funded Travel Rises Ten-Fold »

Taxpayer-funded trips abroad by U.S. Congressmen have risen ten-fold since 1995. From the legitimate trips to war zones, to the questionable trips to exotic places like the Galapagos Islands, Congressional travel is literally soaring in recent years.

While the Obama administration brow beats American citizens about saving money in these tough economic times, they seem to believe that elected government officials do not play by the same rules. This is nothing new, as elected officials do not use Social Security for their retirement like every other American, but rather a private plan more suitable to elected royalty. There is a double standard when it comes to America’s elected officials. From Obama’s czars to congress, elected and appointed officials live high on the hog, while the source of their income (the American citizen) is bent over and made to pay for their lavish lifestyles.

Who would have thought we could give it up so quickly in this country. I used to think it might be 2040 when the Chinese economy would surpass the American economy.

Now I believe 2020 with the terrible decisions our government is making. We're beating ourselves.

The average man on the street knows that when you are out of work, you don't solve the problem by upping your cost of living. The stimulus package was the equivalent of buying a trillion dollars of catsup when you have no beef.

Now the Congress is adding CO2 to the atmosphere as they legislate cap and trade.

    God help us ...

Just some more evidence of the "change" we can believe in. The only thing left for us to do is fire all incumbents at the next election.

I propped the story for the reason that it did go back to 1995 and by doing so proves that politicians from both sides tend to eat at the trough, and it does seem to be getting worse as time goes on. I at times think that really it doesn't matter who we elect, and I'm talking of up here but it is the same down there, it seems that there is a real disconnect between government and the ordinary people. Some of you try to put the blame on just liberals but we have a federal Conservative government that is running the country right now and they are following the same course as President Obama with trying to revive the economy.

I think it's great!!! We have the highest paid, most easily purchased bunch of pigs in any country in the world doing things
like this and THEY KNOW WE WON'T COMPLAIN!! If we do, the don't care...they're in charge and know we'll elect them again because
'they're the right party' and they'll keep on getting rich and spending like a drunk CEO until we run out of money - it's the
socialist way - you can go great till you run out of other people's money...then you issue IOUs till everyone catches on -
you don't have any money...lawsie lawsie, lawsie...what we gonna do then? Who are they going to rob when we can't support
them anymore (as indicated in the number of states/federal governments we can no longer support now)...would they cut back
on the spending...sorry...I didn't mean to blaspheme here...

          This is my favorite junket

Congress' globe-trotting trips: No recession here

Democrat Brian Baird of Washington, a member of the House Science Committee, took a four-day trip to the Galápagos Islands with his wife, four other lawmakers (both Dems and GOPers) and their families to study climate change.

Sounds more like a vacation to me

The article lists many other little trips that the members of both parties took

Its funny Americans were living pampered lives before the recession, now politicians are just living as if nothing has changed. Well they would be correct, nothing has changed. Obama is simply George W. Bush with a few more 0's behind his "change"

I was looking at the stimulus numbers recently Nearly all of it is simply money to shut people up for a short period while injecting billions into programs that won't create a single job.

When this summer is over, watch out. Reality is really going to set in for the average American. Right now we are still acting as if something good is finally going to happen.

Say goodbye to trillions of tax payer money while 6.5 million Americans have lost their jobs in the last 2 years. And unemployment is going to surpass 10% nationwide in no time.

          Worthless politicians.

Just proves they no longer serve us, they serve themselves.

They now believe that they deserve everything and then some.

Time to clean house and get rid of most of them, both parties need to be looking in with no idea on how they became useless after the next election. Alternate parties may allow us to regain are rightful place at the top of the food chain not the bottom.

No majority and true debate on bills and laws could be the best thing for this country right now. Fresh ideas not market research driven video bytes.

How many people truly fit into either national party? Why are we so polarized to only vote for one or the other; not the candidate that truly wants to serve and improve things for future of all.

The way I see it, this is an indicator of how much the con supported Republicans f*cked our country into a state of disaster. Democrats are flying everywhere to clean up all the horsesh*t you people created in voting for criminal torturers Bush and Cheney. FYI, I hear government funded trips to Argentina are up, too. WAY up. ;-0
