Interesting ... one of the Grand Poobahs of Modern Republican's Blessed Sacrament ... The Liberal Media Mantra ... is ... NOW ... quoting Helen Thomas ...
Reply
We all know Helen Thomas as one of the main targets of the Right ...
Here's how they NORMALLY perceive her. . . .
http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://uglydem...
Of course ... as we all know ... that whole Liberal Media Mantra is just Smoke and Mirrors ... or ... Incense and Chants ... whatever works.
However y'all play it ... it's nice to see Helen Thomas being quoted by the Right here on Propeller.
Those of us who understand Mainstream Media ... recognize objectivity for what it is ... being objective to BOTH Left and Right.
Whereas ... those who mythologize Mainstream Media as some Vast Liberal Conspiracy ... become weak in the knees at every criticism ... and shout ... 'THEY'RE OUT TO GET US!"
.
Thanks lovemylibs ... I'll treasure this story submission of yours.
.
LOL!-

I wonder if someone will come in and tell Goppy, to denounce the Obama administration for doing this and stop faking moral indignation.
Reply
while tossing the scarecrow prop from the Wiz of oz into the mix.
Heck Goppy if even Helen sees it can't you? It's not like she's a warm and fuzz friend to the right by any means,,,,,,, it appears she may be a little more balanced than I gave her credit for in the past.
She's spot on, on this issue and you know it.-

When you denounce the Bush administration for starting an unjustified war, spending 1/2 trillion on it, not including that spending in the budget, lying to the American people about warrantless wiretapping, and lying to the American people about torture, maybe some of 'us' will think about questioning or criticizing - ligitimately - things that the Obama administration are doing.

I don't think that. That is not what I said.
Reply
But - I can say the SAME for you that you did about me - i.e., you think that because you agreed with everything the previous administration did that they thus "deserve a pass"?
Here is what I think and what I say about the posted article --
Good for Helen. She should be able to say what she thinks and ask whatever questions she wants. That is democracy, regardless of WHO is in the White House.
That was not the point of my post.
You all HATED Helen when she tried to ask tough questions of Bush.
Now, all of a SUDDEN, you LOVE her?
R-i-g-h-t ... until she says something critical about a Republican - then the brief 'honeymoon' with you and her will be OVER.-

Not to be accused of saying but your side does it too. It does seem that you hated Powell until he was against Bush. In the end when the right thing is said by any side it's still the right thing to say, regardless of the source, would you not agree?-

I didn't Hate Powell. I was disappointed with him.
Reply
Having said that about me, I can't speak for anyone that may have posted that they hated him.
I actually admire Powell for resigning after he found out that he had been lied just like the rest of America had been lied to.-

So then the appropriate response to you Messo would be to ask you what do you think of this topic? Are you outraged about it? will you show any anger about what your guy is doing right before your eyes? I mean don't you thin it's wrong for any president to manipulate the discourse why putting together an infomercial with sick plants to push the healthcare thing or other topics?

I posted several other times that I support Helen Thomas and everything she sais and I am pleased that she CONTINUES to speak out about anything questionable, regardless of WHO it is in the White House.
Reply
I am disappointed with the situation she is complaining about. I am an Obama supporter, but I disagree with "pre-planning" what journalists can say or ask. That is wrong.
I want to see whether or not his administration stops or continues it. If it continues, I will continue to say that it is wrong. -

--I think "this topic" is just lml indulging him/her/itself in mindless anti-Obama attacks and smears again. It's not meant to spark a legitimate intelligent debate. I know this because all neocon tax cut wh*res here on Propeller do exactly the same thing. Just look at lml's posting history. Nothing but mindless slams of Obama or anyone on the left. This is why cons don't grasp the concept behind the Fairness Doctrine. Nothing wrong with criticizing Obama but criticizing Obama for no particular reason other than that you don't like the left is peddling horsesh*t. Your point in this case isn't about media access (because if it was, we'd be comparing and contrasting administrations) but rather just robotic slamming of Obama. LML, like many cons here is a one-trick pony (and I *do* mean trick) with an unbelievably low IQ. That's all. ;-0

To be clear, I have thought for a long time that Helen Thomas lets bias cloud reporting. Those thoughts still remain firm. I would like to know how posting a story about a challenge she makes to Robert Gibbs translates to love.
Reply
And it seems all that it took for some liberal Propellerites to write her off was this challenge. Did your 50 year honeymoon with Ms. Thomas leave you cranky?-

She did make a statement a few months ago that what else should a reporter be than a liberal so yes I'm sure she has a biased approach, On the other hand, I'd say the FNC guys do as well, which is fine. But on this topic Ms. Thomas is spot on.

How much has Obama cut in spending waging these "unjustified' war? Are these wars now legitimate now that a Democrat is in office? If they were so illegitimate why did he not begin bringing out troops home on day two?

instead He's adding salt to the open wound. Our soldiers are still dying, as well as civilians. Where's your outrage over that Bubba?-

Obama is getting us OUT of Iraq - finally!!!
Reply
EVERYONE has said that we can't just yank out EVERY troop from Iraq at the same time. Getting several hundred thousand troops out of one country takes TIME. At least Obama is DOING it - Bush wouldn't.
I have NEVER said that Afghanistan is an 'unjustified' war.
Bush was right to send troops to Afghanistan. That is where we should have been waging a "war" against "terrorism" the whole time, NOT in Iraq.
Invading Iraq was wrong and unjustified. Afghanistan and THAT region of the world is where Al Qaeda is rooted and headquartered.-

Why should he be outraged. According to all of you republickins', this was a just war and a good idea! Whattsa matter? does it change to an unjust war the minute a republickin' looses the election?
I say the entire mess is unjust, but now that we have taken the leadership away from the Iraqi government, Iran will move in if we move out. We could be stuck there for several years.

Gee Goppy. I don't think I have ever been called a Grand Poobah before. And since your claims of smoke and mirrors are really just smoke and mirrors, what did you think about Ms Thomas' claims that this story highlights? That's what I love about you. You are always so willing to talk about the subject of a story and you don't let yourself get caught up in a rant that addresses nothing but smoke and mirrors.

That wasn't the point of the article. It wasn't an anti-press post, but an anti-Obama administration post. AS far as the liberal media is concerned, only someone more liberal than the average journalist could possibly deny that the press has a liberal slant. Other than the fact that it's simply obvious, many insiders, such as Mark Halperin, have said that the reporters were unfair when covering the election. When liberals deny that the media have a lefty slant, they look almost as foolish as some religious people who deny any and all evidence for evolution. Bernard Goldberg was right.

Let me tie a big bow on this treasure for you, Goppy, so that you can hopefully understand just how uneven your analysis is.
Reply
Helen Thomas has questioned President Obama on nothing political here. Just a procedural and control issue. She has taken him to task for calling something a townhall event when, in reality, it was nothing more than a dress rehearsal for America. Journalism was not present at this event because questions were doled out the day before. Ms. Thomas clearly and rightfully demanded an explanation of this dichotomy.
Now, being the objective observer that you are, you have taken a case involving no questioning of politics or policy and created a media bias busting argument out of it. And through it all you have not stated your thoughts in relation to the story's subject.
The best part of it all is that it took Ms. Thomas to show you that bias is still present in the MSM, particulary the part of the MSM that covers the President on a daily basis. Why was she the only one who spoke up? Why wasn't the whole pool of White House reporters up in arms about this non-policy transgression made by President Obama?
If the bias weren't there, you would have heard about this from a myriad of sources.
Now, don't forget to untie the bow from your gift and place it on your mantle right next to your smoke creating candles and your hypocrisy reflecting mirrors.

Ooops ... sorry y'all ... Had dinner with the family ... and when I came back ... I happened to see that the link I posted didn't work out so well.
Reply
It was a link to caricatures of Helen Thomas that Right Wing Media had created to demonize Helen Thomas ... making her look like a monster.
Here's another link ... it's one of the Main Spokespeople for the Modern Republican Movement ... http://www.politicsdaily.com/2009/02/12/moron-bill...
See?
Here's the deal ... mature people accept that Media is there to keep our politician's feet to the fire.
Helen Thomas has always been very good at this.
But that's EXACTLY what followers of Right Wing Ideology HATED about Helen Thomas ... UNTIL NOW!
See ... The Modern Republican Movement is an immature Ideology. So insecure ... and so aware of it's own Moral Vacancy ... it over-reacts to ANY criticism ... and DEMONIZES the messengers who bring that criticism.
UNTIL ... until the day comes when those DEMONS ... criticize one who they hate.
Get it?
Not only is the Ideology immature ... it doesn't stand for ANYTHING of substance.
.
.
Look ... try to understand this ... Obama is a CENTRIST ... get it?
Y'all been listening to Rush Limbaugh and pc25 ...
Any RATIONAL person would have known that HILLARY was more Liberal than Obama.
And this story submission from lovemylibs? That only PROVES it ...
But ... I doubt if even this will convince you.
.
.
Sigh ... a mind is a terrible thing to waste.

Will you also post the caricatures of Rice and Powel that the left had going when they were in office? I mean being a centrist and all I'd think you'd want to show the balanced approach a real centrist would have. -

You really should listen to an interview that Hugh Hewitt did with Helen Thomas in 2006 to really find out her biases. Here's a snippet to whet your appetite:

Helen Thomas is a legend and bless her for doing what "the liberal media" failed to do after 9/11 and throughout the Bush administration. Ask tough questions. And could Obama have chosen a better press secretary than Robert Gibbs? This guy is suave (as opposed to slick) and I love the way he crafts his responses (and non responses) without the clipped nastiness I've grown accustomed to. To be fair, Tony Snow was also quite affable. No it's not their job to be nice but these are examples of people who can answer questions without being a-holes.
