BIG PIMPIN WASHINGTON STYLE »
Posted By pc25 4 months, 3 weeks ago in NewsWe’ve long argued that the national media has been in the bag for Barack Obama, but we didn’t realize that the Washington Post had been appointed to the position of White House Pimp. According to Politico’s Mike Allen, the WaPo has begun offering a new service — matching up lobbyists with administration officials for face time, or whatever else the client has in mind. Like any pimp, er, business manager, they’re not offering it for free, either:

THE MOST HONEST, ETHICAL, TRANSPARENT, LOBBYIST FREE ADMINISTRATION EVAH..............
For $25,000 to $250,000, The Washington Post is offering lobbyists and association executives off the record, non-confrontational access to “those powerful few” — Obama administration officials, members of Congress, and the paper’s own reporters and editors.
The astonishing offer is detailed in a flier circulated Wednesday to a health-care lobbyist, who provided it to a reporter because the lobbyist said he feels it’s a conflict for the paper to charge for access to, as the flier says, its “health care reporting and editorial staff.”
The offer—which essentially turns a news organization into a facilitator for private lobbyist-official encounters—is a new sign of the lengths to which news organizations will go to find revenue at a time when most newspapers are struggling for survival. -

Like Stuart Varney says, the most amazing thing about this is that they actually put out a flier advertising the salons. No whispering about pay-for-play over brandy in smoke-filled rooms for WaPo; just hard print, for all the world to see. Either they somehow didn’t see the problem with a newspaper selling access to the government to lobbyists or they felt so secure in their media perch that they didn’t think they’d be called on it. Which is worse? -

Washington Post cancels lobbyist event amid uproar

Washington Post publisher Katharine Weymouth said today she was canceling plans for an exclusive "salon" at her home where for as much as $250,000, the Post offered lobbyists and association executives off-the-record access to "those powerful few" — Obama administration officials, members of Congress, and even the paper’s own reporters and editors.
The astonishing offer was detailed in a flier circulated Wednesday to a health care lobbyist, who provided it to a reporter because the lobbyist said he felt it was a conflict for the paper to charge for access to, as the flier says, its “health care reporting and editorial staff." -

Robert Gibbs was asked today in the briefing room if anyone from the White House was invited to attend the now-canceled Washington Post salons, and what the policy is for administration officials attending such events.
Reply
"I don't know if anybody here was," Gibbs said. "I think some people in the administration, writ large, may have been invited. I do not believe, based on what I've been able to check, that anybody has accepted the invitations."
Gibbs said that the White House counsel would review such invitations, and "it would likely exceed" what would be considered appropriate.

Right! The Post went ahead and had a salon scheduled for the end of July and no one accepted?
And why won't the Post release the names of the people who were invited? -

dion - you are certainly hung up on the word racism.
Reply
Racism is the belief that race is the primary determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.[1]
In the case of institutional racism, certain racial groups may be denied rights or benefits, or get preferential treatment, while reverse racism favours members of a historically disadvantaged group at the expense of those of a historically advantaged group.
Racial discrimination typically points out taxonomic differences between different groups of people, even though anybody can be racialised, independently of their somatic differences.
According to the United Nations conventions, there is no distinction between the term racial discrimination and ethnic discrimination.
so, dionys, how does this apply to the subject at hand?????
