dude, no kidding! Is there even precedent for this? Have other governors in history just randomly resigned before the end of their term without some scandal forcing them out? What the F is wrong with this insane woman? Governors don't just resign! The insanity just goes on and on...

even Allahpundit thinks her career is over: "Placing your ambition over your commitment to the state looks shady, especially for someone who won’t have a single full term as governor under her belt for the primaries." http://hotair.com/archives/2009/07/03/breaking-pal...

I wouldn't be surprised if she decides to run for public office again.

There have been many 'come-backs' in politics.
But if history is any guide - she will find a very lucrative career as a talking head for FOX.
She's definitely looks good on camera, is photogenic.

personally I wouldn't put my family out there, or be put into a position like that. I'd make damn sure I wasn't a hypocrite!! that pretty much kills any chance to be any kind of politician.

Now Sarah...I'd probably like her as a neighbor, maybe even as an acquaintance/friend, definitely as a TV personality, but never ever as a top leader in government.

How disrespectful, spiteful, harsh, bitter, insensitive, partisan, hateful, judgmental, intolerant and untruthful of you S-p!

True humor requires that there be a germ or two or truth in the attempted humorous statement.
Perhaps that's why yours flunks the test.
Oh, yes, and the punctuation and capitalization errors don't help matters either........... -

Why the mystery?

The last year or so must have been a baptism in political hell of a particularly fiery kind.
One thought that ambition and hubris wold have carried her to 20012, but apparently enough has proven to be just that: enough.
But look to see some (relatively) lengthy wound-licking followed by a...resurrection. And in fact, what could be more delicious than an Obama-Palin dust-up come the next prez election. -

I'm not surprised to hear this. When she bulldozed her way through the VP debate and sobbed because that mean Katie Couric had the nerve to ask her a trick question about what she read to stay informed about the world, I knew she was a goner. ;-0

Well, so far, there have been 15 ethics violations investigations since January, I think -- perhaps last summer -- and she's been cleared of all charges except by the kangaroo court they convened during the campaign...

I do agree, though, that this, in my mind, makes her pretty well irredeemable for the Presidency... -

Has everyone listened to her "resignation" speech? OMFG. Between her and Mark Sanford I'm finally realizing why cons like to slam Obama over his use of the teleprompter. Maybe if he'd start giving extremely long, rambling, incoherent speeches about his world view, cons would pay more attention to him. Seriously, what does oil have to do with her resigning? Also, will someone please tell Palin to STHU about our military? Who IS she? God?! Who even ASKED this shrill bimbo what she did in Kosovo? SHUT UP. ;-(

I'd look for her to be very active in oil, and as for the military, perhaps you've forgotten she has a son overseas serving this nation? She has every right to speak of the military. Until the end of the month, she is also CIC for the Alaskan NG.
"Who IS she? God?! "
Who are you?

I don't blame her for resigning, I don't think that she was ready for all the crap that goes on. All we ever hear about politicians on both sides is crap and personal attacks. Is it any wonder that the really good people of any country keep out of politics, nothing but a friggin zoo full of animals who don't give a damn about the people of the country.

--Even if she hadn't run for VP, she wasn't ready to be governor. She's quitting now because she figured out it's actually not so easy to be the most popular governor in the US when your state has real problems to deal with. She strikes me as someone for whom the term "lower 48" had multiple meanings. She kept talking about AK as if it wasn't part of the US, she didn't want to delegate and she was definitely not a team player. She isn't ready for prime time because she's very willful and not a great listener. I think she *could* learn to be a better, more informed, legislator if she wanted to but she's not the kind of person that knows how to take advice with a grain of salt. I thought her response to the negative reaction to the Katie Couric interview she botched was very telling. Couric (like Gwen Ifill) is intelligent, curious, articulate, always well prepared, and never loses her cool. Political ideology aside, she's someone Palin could probably learn a lot from. Ultimately it was Palin's ego that tripped her up.

I am a Democrat, but I think the press has been too harsh on her. The attacks on her family have been way out of line. David Letterman was a major jerk to bring up that joke about her daughter, and that image of her son Tripp online was disgusting....I am sorry this has happened to her this way..Yes, I was unhappy with some of her policies about wildlife in Alaska, but to attack her family this way out of line...The media should be ashamed, and David Letterman sucks.

I couldn't disagree more. Palin loved every *second* of the David Letterman hoopla. She's quitting because *McCain's people* started leaking more information about how she behaved like a vacuous controlling b*tch on a misguided power trip throughout the campaign. She LOVES the media when they are treating her like a star. If she didn't want her family to be under the microscope, she had no business pimping her children in a sleazy attempt to get votes as soccer mom of the year. She brought most of her "attacks" on to herself because she's extremely stupid and she thought she could coast into the job of VP without doing the hard work of educating herself about what the job entailed. She's reeeally purty but I don't feel one bit sorry for her. Not after I listen to her screeeeching about "Baraaaaaaaaaack Obaaaaaaaaaaama" palling around with terrorists or whatever. She's an idiot. Period.

So many out there think there is a scandal behind this, but I say maybe not. Just last year, the gov. (Matt Blunt) here in Mo. announced that he would not seek re-election. Many thought there was a scandal here at that time. But only a few months later, Mo. Senator announced that he would not seek re-election in 2010. Now Mat Blunts father, Roy Blunt, has announced that he will seek the US senate seat vacated by Bond. Well, well, guess who is going to try and grab the congressional seat that will be open if Roy Blunt wins this race?

Ex gov. Matt Blunt of course. -

Gov. Palin was treated to harshly by the press and my evening comedians, it was unfair and showed no proffesionislm I voted for Obama but she made some good points during her campaign. I wish her luck on whatever directions she chooses. and hope to see or hear again on the campaign trail
