There are essentially two reasons why she'd quit (as I posted in another article about her decision to resign):
1. Run for President or Veep. Torpeedoed by her being a cowardly quitter (along with being a frightening religious fundie, a liar and an idiot).
2. A horrific personal or governmental scandal about to bubble to the surface so she quits in hopes that it won't surface if she's no longer in the spotlight.
Unless you think there's a third possibility for her running away with her tail tucked between her legs.-

--D, Something tells me she's not worried about being seen as a quitter as much as she is worried about her sinking approval ratings in AK killing her political ambitions. She realizes that it's not so easy to be the most popular governor in the country when your state is longer flush with cash. I just don't understand what the rush is for her. She's in her mid 40s with a special needs baby. Why not wait a few years until little Trog or Trick or whatever his name is is older and after she's had more foreign policy experience with Russia? ;-0

Oh, I dunno. When palin said Obama palled around with terrorist(S) because he worked with 63 YO Bill Ayers on an anti poverty committee, Obama handled it well. Said he was 8 YO when Ayers was part of the Weather Underground. (Not sure where palin got that plural in 'terrorist(S).
And when palin stood at a podium grinning like a moron while one of her whacked out followers yelled out "KILL HIM!", Obama didn't melt down. He just moved on to the business at hand.

That's easy. If I was going into politics, I'd sit down with my family and ask them if they thought they could handle what Palin has gone through (which, granted, has been a lot but the majority of it she brought on herself). You should also remind yourself that if you know in your heart you aren't getting into politics for noble reasons, it's probably best to stay out. Your family probably won't like it too much if you wind up broke and/or in prison AND cause them disgrace. And then there's Liz Cheney--which goes to prove the apple does not fall far from the treat. If you know you're raising an automaton who will support you through illegal war and torture then, by all means, jump into the deep end. ;-x

One thought that ambition and hubris wold have carried her to 20012, but apparently enough has proven to be just that: enough.

--Even if she hadn't run for VP, she wasn't ready to be governor. She's quitting now because she figured out it's actually not so easy to be the most popular governor in the US when your state has real problems to deal with. She strikes me as someone for whom the term "lower 48" had multiple meanings. She kept talking about AK as if it wasn't part of the US, she didn't want to delegate and she was definitely not a team player. She isn't ready for prime time because she's very willful and not a great listener. I think she *could* learn to be a better, more informed, legislator if she wanted to but she's not the kind of person that knows how to take advice with a grain of salt. I thought her response to the negative reaction to the Katie Couric interview she botched was very telling. Couric (like Gwen Ifill) is intelligent, curious, articulate, always well prepared, and never loses her cool. Political ideology aside, she's someone Palin could probably learn a lot from. Ultimately it was Palin's ego that tripped her up.

I am a Democrat, but I think the press has been too harsh on her. The attacks on her family have been way out of line. David Letterman was a major jerk to bring up that joke about her daughter, and that image of her son Tripp online was disgusting....I am sorry this has happened to her this way..Yes, I was unhappy with some of her policies about wildlife in Alaska, but to attack her family this way out of line...The media should be ashamed, and David Letterman sucks.

She's quitting because *McCain's people* started leaking more information about how she behaved like a vacuous controlling b*tch on a misguided power trip throughout the campaign. She LOVES the media when they are treating her like a star. If she didn't want her family to be under the microscope, she had no business pimping her children in a sleazy attempt to get votes as soccer mom of the year. She brought most of her "attacks" on to herself because she's extremely stupid and she thought she could coast into the job of VP without doing the hard work of educating herself about what the job entailed. No matter what SHE did, her children had no control, carried no responsibility, and should have been left alone.
I find it hard to believe that every 'person' that has raised kids, that justified their vile attacks on Palins kids, including Bristol, raised children that NEVER went against their parents wishes, NEVER made a mistake, that strictly adhered to the teachings of their parents. So many out there think there is a scandal behind this, but I say maybe not. Just last year, the gov. (Matt Blunt) here in Mo. announced that he would not seek re-election. Many thought there was a scandal here at that time. But only a few months later, Mo. Senator announced that he would not seek re-election in 2010. Now Mat Blunts father, Roy Blunt, has announced that he will seek the US senate seat vacated by Bond. Well, well, guess who is going to try and grab the congressional seat that will be open if Roy Blunt wins this race?

I think it makes sense. She can not progress her goals for Alaska with the constant hammering, but she can work behind the scenes, and if her Lt Gov has the same goals, everybody wins, especially Alaska. I'm not convinced she is after the Presidency in 2012, something , some kind of deal, has already been struck, that includes Bristol, if I'm reading her comments right on polling her family, (3 yeas, 1 hell yea,)

An aside, the people who mocked us for scrutinizing her college years, should now admit that the scrutiny was valid...her then proclivity to drop out of the various schools she attended was an uncannily accurate predictor of her future behavior.
