well I have to admit, it's a little difficult picturing gay Mennonites. Seems they'd be more apt to either leave their church and way of life or try and deny their sexual identity...
At least they don't have to worry about physical violence.

Why? What did Jesus say about homosexuality?

I don't think Jesus said anything about homosexuality either.

Why would Christians, then, have to leave their church or deny their sexual identity?

Dionys- I don't think they should have to do either, but I'm not the one running anybody's religion or church. If I believed, everyone else who believed would be welcomed regardless.

All I said was I was surprised they didn't try to deny their sexual identity, to fit in, and if they couldn't I am surprised they don't leave their church and their Mennonite community.

Who are the MOST judgmental? Churches, that's who.

After getting back into church they way they like you to do by going down in front and confessing your sins and all of that and walking away from who I am and living the "straight life" the head members of the church told the pastor that they wanted me out of the church because of my past which a few of them knew about said it wasn't good for me to be there, it looked bad. I had no contact with another male for over a year and they still didn't want me there after all this time and the pastor told me he had been putting them fine christian folk off for over a year.
The pastor resigned one month later and was rewarded with a better church. We stayed in contacted even when I returned to who I am until his death.

I was raised in church ALL my life until 20 years of age and I have never seen anyone so judgmental anywhere like a church.
I'm not saying all of them are bad but most are VERY judgmental.

Judgmental and hypocritical. These same BS artists who want to push themselves off as good people are the first to leave the parking lot at the end of Sunday services. They are also the first to go on television confessing their sins whenever and however they can. See Governor Sanford, Senator Vitter, Senator Ensign and plenty of others as examples. I have no place in my heart for either judgmental religious whackos or overly zealous hypocrites. Remember, do unto others BEFORE they do unto you.

This is a very stupid story. The Mennonite, Amish, and other related churches are conservative (meaning they believe the Bible is the word of God.) This means that since the Bible says in both the Old and New Testaments that the act of homosexuality is an abomination they believe it. Therefore these "Mennonites" would have been given the references to read. There will be several steps that happen before they are shunned which is the worst the Mennonite Church can do. This is equivalent to excommunication. Any conservative church will do the same. The Word of God holds sway instead of what people think.

The Bible also talks about Jesus' favorite being a young boy. The Bible talks about stoning your wife if you divorce her. The Bible talks about needing to take your steak to the nearest Rabbi before enjoying it so it may be blessed and shared with the village. The Bible sets as punishment for wearing cloth made of two different linens at death by stoning. The Bible says that a woman should be cast out of her village and her man too, if they should lay as one while she is on her period. Endo, those are mighty conservative values which none of us regard much today. Are you suggesting it is OK to pick and choose which hokey ideas to accept and which to reject?
