A Republican source close to her political team told CNN's John King that it was a "calculation" she made that "it was time to move on." The governor's "book deal and other issues" were "causing a lot of friction" in her home state, the source said, adding that he believes she is "mapping out a path to 2012."

Right. Nothing says "presidential" like fleeing headlong from your first term as governor.

nothing says Presidential like being a community organizer, who was supported by his wife during their marriage and the only thing he ever ran was a marathon before trying to run the country.......the emphasis being on TRYING ........

Yes. God forbid you should have experience teaching Constitutional law and experience actually bringing people together before becoming president. It's much better if you have a name and the experience of driving multiple countries into the ground while being continually bailed out by the House of Saud.

Ooops.. Multiple COMPANIES into the ground.

Running countries into the ground came after Bush's election.

for someone who taught Constitutional Law he sure knows how to overstep its boundaries, in case you haven't noticed Crusader Cross Boy he is driving this country into the ground by quadrupling the deficit in a mere 100 days, no wonder he was practically on his knees bowing before the House of Saud. With the way the economy is headed he doesn't know when he will have to don the knee pads and finish the job.......

Several direct-mail pieces issued for Obama's primary campaign said he was a law professor at the University of Chicago. He is not. He is a senior lecturer (now on leave) at the school. In academia, there is a vast difference between the two titles. Details matte

Republican strategist Ed Rollins said it best....."STUPID, STUPID, STUPID move if she had any real hopes for the White House. Rule #1 in politics is NEVER QUIT!"

I agree with his assessment, but then I think about the fan base of Sarah Palin and wonder. Since when did logic or common sense have any influence over their voting decisions? I can't imagine looking at someone who couldn't stay put for a single 4-year term for governor as a serious presidential hopeful, but then I'd never vote for her in the first place. For me, a minimum IQ that enables the ability for true critical thought is necessary for the job and she isn't even close to that one. I'm not sure that her quitting should surprise anyone though. I mean, look at her history. How many colleges did she attend before actually graduating? That right there should have been a huge red flag as to her ability to stick things out. But anyone actually thinking about her as a serious presidential hopeful really needs to ask themselves, what happens if she does this in Washington? What happens if, 2 or 3 years into her first term she decides its better for "her" to step down because someone made a bad joke about her kids, or some other such silliness. Where would our country be if our president couldn't handle a simple 4 year commitment? It's absolutely ridiculous! She couldn't handle a four-year stretch in college and now again in the governor's chair. But some are thinking she's headed to Pennsylvania Ave? Give me a break!!!!!

Todd Palin told FOX News that his wife will concentrate on "doing the things for Alaska and the country" that she is passionate about and can not do as governor with the limitation and constant opposition she deals with within the state.

The Anchorage Daily News reported earlier this week that SarahPAC, the governor's political action campaign, sent out an e-mail seeking new contributions from supporters, in part to boost Mrs. Palin's fund-raising totals ahead of the June 30 reporting deadline to the Federal Election Commission.

does she actually think she can win the presidency? I hope someone close to her, someone who she can actually trust, lets her in on the real deal: she doesn't have a chance.

better for her to take a shot at a senate seat since its only alaskans voting on that one. but the moment she hits the lower 48, you can hear the giggling coming from everywhere when Palin steps up to the microphone and starts in with her down home routine while trying to sound smart. really embarrassing.

but something tells me that she's so deep inside the bubble, that the GOP is so much trouble, that the hubris around her is so thick, that she actually thinks she deserves to be the president.

So if (big if) she were to get elected president, HAHAHAHAHA, would the country have to worry about her just quitting if the going got tough! lol.. She knew she didn't stand a prayer of being re-elected in 2010 either!

She's hiding something.. And resigning in lieu of going to prison! Her term would have been up next year, she would have had 2 years to plan a run for president.. I'm not buying this.. Not buying it at all. Senators, governors, etc have run for president while still being senators and governors, last year being a prime example.. Not buying her lies!

yes, very interesting. the best move would've been for her to finish her term succesfully as the governor, then make a run for whatever she has her eye on. as is, she just made it very clear to the whole world that she's more than willing to jump ship for his own ends.

She is moving out of sight while the Democrats are in control. She will come back in sight in a big way in 2S012. She can't do much politically with the Democrats in charge so she doesn't want to hang around. We will all forget about her these next three years so when she returns in 2012 we will only have good memories of what she tried to do before the Democrats took over. Her baby and grandson will be school age and she will say she used these three years to concentrate on raising her son and supporting her daughter. It's all a game. A game they all play.

                            um, earth to moxxxx...

Palin is moving out of sight?

                            no.

with this move, the media will be scrutinzing everything she does for the next few years, unless she comes out and says she's done with politics (which won't happen. palin is a fiend for the spotlight).

on the contrary, with this move, Palin has made sure the spotlight will be on focused right on her.

she can't do much politically with the dems in charge?

um, she's a GOP governor in a GOP state.

what planet are you posting from? cause it sure ain't earth.

Just because you resign doesn't mean the sh!t isn't going to hit the electric whirly thing that makes a little breeze.

I can't wait to see what her kids can do in the next few years... heck, they already blew one presidential election.

Hey, maybe she can get a pro ballplayer to date her daughter once the campaign gets going... maybe an Arod/Jonas Bros. kind of guy...

I, for one, will miss here. She has been quite a curiosity.

As to where she goes from here --- well, at least it will not be to Argentina.

One strategist who assumes she has presidential aspirations called the decision to resign her office "puzzling," and another described it as "nutty." "If this is about running for president, it's about as odd a way as we've ever seen," said John Weaver, a Republican strategist.

Their reasoning followed conventional assumptions about what it takes to mount a national campaign -- that, in surrendering the governor's office in Alaska and ending her brief tenure in statewide office, she leaves behind a thin record on which to base a national bid.

A day has passed since the governor's press conference announcing her resignation and no one but Sarah Palin is exactly sure why she did it. But whatever the intended effect was of stepping down, the mysterious move is drawing harsh criticism even from fellow Republicans. “There is just no good way to say quitting has made her more qualified to run for higher office,” GOP pollster Glen Bolger told Politico. Republican consultant Todd Harris said that Palin "is on the verge of becoming the Miami Vice of American politics: Something a lot of people once thought was cool and then 20 years later look back, shake their heads and just kind of laugh.” While some prominent conservatives, like Bill Kristol, have defended her move, they've also admitted they didn't see it coming at all, highlighting the bizarre nature of Palin's hastily put together press conference.

There are numerous speculations why Palin is
resigning as Alaska governor. She made the
smartest -- and momentous -- decision because
when Obama is removed from Office because of
the birth certicate issue Biden will not become
president because he would be disqualified as well
and Hilliary Clinton would be disqualified as
secretary of state but she would be qualified
as president. As she is so disliked, I think
there would be a special election, and Palin is
ready to step up to the plate now, not 2012.

She can make a lot more money being a private citizen now that she has been "discovered" as the voice of the Republican party. Being a civil servant can limit those cash payments, free trips, gifts and other goodies.
